QUOTE(teop @ Jun 9 2016, 05:27 PM)
Hi,

I'm trying to add a pair of speakers for a second zone (kitchen/up stairs hall) and I'm looking for some wires.

a) The distance is at least 15m.
b) Can drive 6 ohm floor stand / bookshelf speakers.
c) White in color to blend with the walls and floors.
d) Budget up to RM10/meter.

Can someone recommend what and where to buy some proper wires
1) What size of wires I need?
2) Where can I buy them in Klang Valley or on-line?

I would have bought those common wires sold in electrical shops if not for the crazy green/pink/silver colors that they use.

Thanks.

You can try QED Profile 42 Strand entry level speaker cable that comes in white colour. Price is RM9/m, when I checked at CMY last December.

Is the sound significant different for floorstand over bookshelf? Thinking of save the extra 2k++ for a good sub
*
You can determine it by yourself on auditioning side by side between the bookshelf and floorstander of the same series. Personally, I would go with floorstanders if space is not an issue but it is most important that you choose a speaker that you feel sounds accurate and pleasing to you in your listening environment.

lol if go for Floorstand, temporary use back my old pioneer 12 inch sub. Next only change the sub
Btw, floorstand zensor 5 vs 7, which 1 should go to match my Zensor Vokal? Is the Zensor 7 (7 inch woofer) make a big difference over Zensor 5 (5.25 inch)?
*
Dali Zensor 5 should be good enough. Try to spend more on the sub but if budget is not a constrain then DZ 7 would be better of course. All LCR must be timbre matched. You can also consider Dynaudio speakers if budget allow.

If the price is not much difference definitely will go for floorstand smile.gif
But the quoted price for Zensor 5 or Zensor 7 triple the price of Zensor 1, so really need auditioning before make the decision.

Most probably will go for DZ 7 cause different by few hundreds only compare to DZ 5 if I chosen floorstand. Btw, since all my speaker can handle below 60Hz,  should I set the crossover at 60Hz or 80Hz as recommended by THX?
*
Ya if the price is not much difference then better go with DZ 7 and how much you was quoted, by A & L I supposed?

For crossover setting, I tried between 80hz and 120hz, currently I set it at 80hz. Low frequencies are redirected to your subwoofer instead of your other speakers. Usually 80 Hz is a commonly recommended crossover setting by THX because this is the generally accepted point at which it becomes difficult for humans to localize a sound.

Yeah,  80Hz should be good enough. You interested on DZ 7?
*
Previously, I was quite interested in DZ 7 with its clear, engaging sound and elegantly built but pretty sure it will be out of my budget. Therefore, never get to check on its price here.

QUOTE(sonerin @ Jun 20 2016, 11:07 AM)
Setting the cross over must be determine by your speakers and sub capability. Recommendation is a guide line. Wrong setting meaning there some freq that will be missing or too much overlap
*
This is true and therefore need to use your avr's ypao or audyssey for calibration.

So what front speaker you bought after gave up DZ 7?
*
Nothing! biggrin.gif as it is not a priority. Actually on the quest for other gears...

So have you auditioned DZ 7 yet?

How much A&L quoted you last time for the DZ 7?
*
I didn't ask for any quote previously. AV show is next month, maybe can visit them and try asking it for good price!

Usually they will display their flagship product right? Not sure if they got offering for entry level.
*
Usually both ranges will be showcase and maybe some older models with higher discount and whereas newer models usually with very little discount especially for flagship models but it would also depends on what brands or items you are looking for.

You looking for other gears beside DZ 7?

Front speaker no choice have to go for DZ cause current center and surround are DZ.  Might consider sub and avr if higher offer smile.gif
*
I see... what front speaker you have now and so you already bought DZ for cc and sr earlier?

What sub or avr you are considering now? If Svs sub only standard discount apply and usually no better discount even at the show. For avr should have better discount especially for entry level but depending on what model you looking for.

Using Pioneer SM800 floors stand but not that impressive. Was looking at Velodyne sub. What avr you recommend for DZ speaker?
*
Yeah, then you must get DZ series to paired with your Dali Vokal. I think SVS would be a good option for sub as also suggested by Sifu Sonerin!

I think maybe you can paired with Yamaha, Denon or Marantz which are warmer sounding amp that will suit the Dali speakers. Different amplifiers have differing sound signatures and each one of these receivers is distinguishable from the other. To me, the Yamaha has a more dynamic sound to it than the Denon. I suggest you audition and try to compare the two before deciding on it.

So which type of sub should get? Sealed or Bass reflex?
*
Currently what sub are you using? Is it a ported or seal one? Do you plan to use dual sub and what's the size of your space for HT?

Current sub 12 inches dual ported at living hall
*
I supposed your living hall should be quite spacious since you already using dual 12" ported subs. So want to upgrade for better performance sub?

If space is not an issue then you can go for ported sub because it will typically offer better low-end extension as well as greater output but it is advisable to have two same subs.

I see and can understand! smile.gif

Svs Pb2000 is good option to go with. Have you audition any Svs sub before? Sub placement is important too ya.
