I'm new so I didn't really know how to measure how loud I'm playing in dB, but I can't play loud as though I have a properly padded cinema/HT room.

My doors n plaster ceiling will gives me rattling sound when the certain frequency bass kicks in
*
my room shaking point is 50hz. so my sub got choice to notch down the selected hz until -12db.

see if your new sub got similar function. no necessary to experiment padding which i did earlier, found the result is weak

Hi everyone.
Just want to share my current home theater system.
I started getting my first hi-fi system some 5 years back
and there is no turning back to those crap little plastic home theater system.

Below are my setup :
Primarily used for both music & movies.
Good enough for both musics & movies in compact space.

TV Model : Philips 42"
Amplifier : Onkyo TX-NR929 with Audyssey multeq xt32 calibration
Front Speaker : Mordaunt Short Mezzo 2
Center Speaker : Mordaunt Short Mezzo 5
Surround Speaker : Mordaunt Short Mezzo 1
Subwoofer : Mordaunt Short Mezzo 9 (Small nice compact sub)
Interconnect/Cable : Home made DIY Speaker cable (Very low cost, get a few banana plug and good AWG cable)
Media Player : Normal Player with HDMI output. Usually use to hook up hard disk to play

All the above can get second hand for great price now

Total estimate system cost : below RM10K

Tips of getting good systems.

*** Get last year or last 2 years top of the range model for amps and speakers.
Usually you can get a good discounted price for them since every year they going to roll out new model anyway.
Trust me most of the time they are no major hardware difference between last year and current year model, usually only packaging different.

Hello everyone. Want to ask..

I know that edifier produces pc speaker but there are 2 speaker system listed as 5.1 home theatre speakers - the DA5100 (rm789) and S760D (rm2299).

I am looking for a budget ready to play 5.1 system. Want to ask you guys who have seen/experience listening to those speakers. Are they good enough for living room use? Or are there any other better alternative? The cheaper is the better for me. Nowadays all product increase price so, budget very low. Lol

Thank you.
*
see the input connection. u must use triple 3.5mm to play the surround function. any of ur device got?

alternative is spdif optical port for dolby dts. any of ur device got?

u must understand rear spk dont make sound all the time unless ur movie or game come with dolby dts 5.1

then only old codec is supported becos new codec must use hdmi port.

Thanks for the reply. Thats why i dont quite understand the 5.1 connection at the back of the subwoofer. Currently i am using hi-fi amplifier. So, i just plug in the red and white wire. The problem is, the people voice/dialog volume is low (music and action sound very high). Need a centre speaker.

I intent to connect the tv, hypptv, astro and bluray player to it.
*
if u only plug red and white rca. the edifier set no sound at center spk. becos no center signal is going there.

this set call pc speaker becos require 5.1 sound card + software and media to create surround signal.

*Can someone enlighten me? During surround 5.1 calibration using the provided mic, how does the active subwoofer sound? I felt it sound too soft and low compare to the rest of the speakers. I set crossover frequency 80 and vollume at 50% at the back of the subwoofer, from the receiver i select bypass. Hmm wondering if this correct.
Anyone know can share what is the best crossover frequency for front L, front R, center, surroud L and surround R that should set on the receiver?
*
something wrong.... u set what item from receiver bypass?

from my exp a 4" can use 80-90hz cross
5.25" use 60-80hz.
6.5" kasi 50hz pun ok. but u gonna miss the kick feel from sub. so use large setting for front spk. then enable double bass /main+lfe.

dunno anything??? download bass staircase test and listen repeatly to identify ur room mode hz

Oh any other solution to solved this problem without installing sub
*
yamaha 681 can see the eq graph result from avr?
see if u ypao + loud volume vs pure direct + loud volume
who has more bass or not.

i worry the ypao cut down bass becos wall reflection.
use ypao flat, natural, front align. are different if u hass free time to test

Thanks for the advice, yes I'm newbie to HT sound. I'm using Denon X1300W. Yamaha ns555, ns444 as F, R, C speakers. Surround back RL and RR I'm using Boston acoustic XS speaker. For subwoofer, I'm using the ancient wharfedale diamond sw150.
During speakers setup and test, I can hear the subwoofer sounds loud, when I do audyssey calibration, the subwoofer sounds pooney.
Getting complicated with come to sound wave length, positioning and tool to detect. I don't have any SPL tool. Anywhere I can get it cheap?
*
welcome another audyssey user. did u calibrate 8 position or how many?
distance result are balance between front L--R ?
level result also important for front spk.

the rest can tune easily. im quite familiar to audyssey multieq xt.
everything brand new will take 1-2week playing to run in. also let urself familiarize the character of yamaha spk.

ns555 is 6.5" cone. can run 50-60hz easily. but denon only has 60hz as the nearest choice.

can use lfe+ main becos ur floor stand spk wont spoil easily given extra bass presence from front side.

can google download bass staircase test. very easy to detect balance /imbalance bass response in a room. if u hear sudden loud shaking. thats the room resonance hz.

honestly i dont have any measuring equipment at all. use human earz

i have very short exp with friend unit wharfedale sw150. only know is ported and feel soft/ less kick. didnt have time to help him adjust which wall to assist the reflect

I think the woofer is good bro, I feel the low bass coming out and doesnt carry any vocal our sound. Just thum thum sound. But i have to crank up the Denon receiver volume more than 45 nots above then it feels more apparent. The subwoofer back volume I have to set it lower than middle else it makes my living room shaking which is scary.

So my AVR speakers config is set to small@60Hz all front speakers, small@200Hz surround side speakers, Woofer yes with LFE and 80Hz.
Any comment on my settings? smile.gif
*
check ur eq result.preferred not touching peak of positive or negative db.
Attached Image

can use large for front L--R. so that it give better bass matching instead of sub only. becos u are mixing few kind of british and japan brands.

bass setting from avr leave 120hz until u have finish tune everything. then can adjust according to room create more kick. 80hz too low probably killed all the intended boom from action movies. unless your main usage is music.

boston xs 3" can go 120-150hz. too high crossover feel unnatural + less clean bass fron subwoofer becos it will mix all small channels together.

audyssey function should be boost bass at low volume, while reduce bass as u go louder. like mine can go from normal -43db (37%) all the way up 0db (80%) while the bass boom is under controlled. no need touch behind the sub at all. reference offset is the boost target. lower =less treble and bass.
Attached Image

your case is rear spk crossover 200hz make a lot mid bass signal being sent into subwoofer. result is very boom. run the staircase test like that surely shake whole room

recommended to adjust rear spk level yourself as audyssey often miss compensate after multi seat eq calibration.

by the way, have fun smile.gif

Very true power cables dam expensive but u can diy it many sifu doing that....i have test marantz sr5010 in shop the seller said need to change power cable to make it sounds good but the cable is dam expensive so i drop the idea
*
for uk plug. most important is fuse. then connector material. then cable.
fuse very hard to judge without listening. so far i swap from old electrical appliances from family houses. a lot work.

thats why some sifu change to usa plug. no fuse required.
just choose material.

Tell them you are John's friend and see how they re-act...
Ya ya... nice US sockets and plugs... i used to hv US plug but when try to removed fr unswitch outlets/wall sockets always with comes sparks and very tied to remove which even make the sparks becoming intense... unless you don't removed it from the wall sockets then it will be fine! The unswitch wall sockets are better for sure IMO...
I had my MK plug's fuse removed... for better performance!
*
spark happen inside switched socket. no difference with
happen outside unswitched socket.
still i scare. so i switched socket. haha.

after unfuse, u use solid metal or short wire to link the live wire?
