I'm new so I didn't really know how to measure how loud I'm playing in dB, but I can't play loud as though I have a properly padded cinema/HT room.

My doors n plaster ceiling will gives me rattling sound when the certain frequency bass kicks in

Just want to share my current home theater system.
I started getting my first hi-fi system some 5 years back
and there is no turning back to those crap little plastic home theater system.

Below are my setup :
Primarily used for both music & movies.
Good enough for both musics & movies in compact space.

TV Model : Philips 42"
Amplifier : Onkyo TX-NR929 with Audyssey multeq xt32 calibration
Front Speaker : Mordaunt Short Mezzo 2
Center Speaker : Mordaunt Short Mezzo 5
Surround Speaker : Mordaunt Short Mezzo 1
Subwoofer : Mordaunt Short Mezzo 9 (Small nice compact sub)
Interconnect/Cable : Home made DIY Speaker cable (Very low cost, get a few banana plug and good AWG cable)
Media Player : Normal Player with HDMI output. Usually use to hook up hard disk to play

All the above can get second hand for great price now

Total estimate system cost : below RM10K

Tips of getting good systems.

*** Get last year or last 2 years top of the range model for amps and speakers.
Usually you can get a good discounted price for them since every year they going to roll out new model anyway.
Trust me most of the time they are no major hardware difference between last year and current year model, usually only packaging different.

Hello everyone. Want to ask..

I know that edifier produces pc speaker but there are 2 speaker system listed as 5.1 home theatre speakers - the DA5100 (rm789) and S760D (rm2299).

I am looking for a budget ready to play 5.1 system. Want to ask you guys who have seen/experience listening to those speakers. Are they good enough for living room use? Or are there any other better alternative? The cheaper is the better for me. Nowadays all product increase price so, budget very low. Lol

Thanks for the reply. Thats why i dont quite understand the 5.1 connection at the back of the subwoofer. Currently i am using hi-fi amplifier. So, i just plug in the red and white wire. The problem is, the people voice/dialog volume is low (music and action sound very high). Need a centre speaker.

I intent to connect the tv, hypptv, astro and bluray player to it.

*Can someone enlighten me? During surround 5.1 calibration using the provided mic, how does the active subwoofer sound? I felt it sound too soft and low compare to the rest of the speakers. I set crossover frequency 80 and vollume at 50% at the back of the subwoofer, from the receiver i select bypass. Hmm wondering if this correct.
Anyone know can share what is the best crossover frequency for front L, front R, center, surroud L and surround R that should set on the receiver?

Oh any other solution to solved this problem without installing sub

Thanks for the advice, yes I'm newbie to HT sound. I'm using Denon X1300W. Yamaha ns555, ns444 as F, R, C speakers. Surround back RL and RR I'm using Boston acoustic XS speaker. For subwoofer, I'm using the ancient wharfedale diamond sw150.
During speakers setup and test, I can hear the subwoofer sounds loud, when I do audyssey calibration, the subwoofer sounds pooney.
Getting complicated with come to sound wave length, positioning and tool to detect. I don't have any SPL tool. Anywhere I can get it cheap?

I think the woofer is good bro, I feel the low bass coming out and doesnt carry any vocal our sound. Just thum thum sound. But i have to crank up the Denon receiver volume more than 45 nots above then it feels more apparent. The subwoofer back volume I have to set it lower than middle else it makes my living room shaking which is scary.

So my AVR speakers config is set to small@60Hz all front speakers, small@200Hz surround side speakers, Woofer yes with LFE and 80Hz.
Any comment on my settings?

are you using Denon AVR 4300H OR 6300H or 6200W

because i scared hdmi board will death for onkyo

Yeah, to me it made significant improvement but must try yourself to feel the difference... power cables very expensive! 

Very true power cables dam expensive but u can diy it many sifu doing that....i have test marantz sr5010 in shop the seller said need to change power cable to make it sounds​ good but the cable is dam expensive so i drop the idea

Ya ya... nice US sockets and plugs... i used to hv US plug but when try to removed fr unswitch outlets/wall sockets always with comes sparks and very tied to remove which even make the sparks becoming intense... unless you don't removed it from the wall sockets then it will be fine! The unswitch wall sockets are better for sure IMO...
I had my MK plug's fuse removed... for better performance!
