when i woke up n saw the free fall, i feel really down. have not seen this 'phenomina' for a while. damn. top losers went down 50% ? sounds like disasters somewhere somewhat
*
Some of the high flyers can go down faster especially the overvalued stocks esp. the market has a very strong rally last year. Now, it is time to give some back.

On Jan 17th, I've mentioned I would like to see Dow see 15000 first before 18000, don't mean to scare anybody but that's actually healthy for the market. Just a 10% correction. But, sometimes, panic selling can roll in,.. and if
market sees no additional positive signs, don't be surprised it can roll down to 14500.. that would translate into 12-13% correction.. that's still ok.

Back in 2011, the market dipped in bear territory with 20%correction with the European crisis. Everything is fine again a couple of month later.

So, relax.. sell some calls while you wait and get some cash ready to buy more later. biggrin.gif

Year 2013 = DJIA up almost 30% .. So far, correction Year to Date =  ( - 4.21% )
But, US Dollar at 4 years high against MYR  at 3.345  drool.gif  , as USA economy is getting better with more
tapering in QE..  HK Stocks got whacked !! but P/E and financial ratios = still unattractive / overvalue ..  ohmy.gif
Perhaps, is P/E ratio below industry average PE is called as 'Intrinsic Value' ?
*
Nice!! I like when the MYR drops another 0.3 percent. rclxm9.gif

If possible, let's go for 3.40!!! rclxms.gif

Hey guys, I've a trading acct with TD Ameritrade. For dividends, it seems like there's a withholding of 30%. As my income tax bracket is below this, is there any way I can get back some of the taxed amount?
*
Yes, if you've filed W8BEN, just file 1040NR form by April 15th to get some refund.

Thanks danmooncake, where can I get the form? From LHDN?
*
LHDN? No-lah, you are not collecting refund from Malaysia govt! This is USA.

US IRS (Uncle Sam Tax collector). Where else?
Google their site, you'll find it.

TDA ameritrade should send you a statement by March 1 (1099-DIV) which tells you exactly how much you were withhold. Use this to file 1040NR with Uncle Sam.

Apple $14.50, higher than market expectation.
iphone sales lower, ipad sales higher.
so tomorrow may see......dropping?  hmm.gif
*
Yes.. unfortunately. Let see if it will go down more tomorrow or not. AH drops to exactly the level that the option market was pricing it... if beat, it will go abive 560, it missed, it will be below 520.

So much for the best quarter for AAPL. This is actually a major disappointment for AAPL bulls.

yes sir. i kind of agree with your view of apply products. i really perceive that its iphone soon be history (sales missed the target today) and only its ipad is keeping it as at today. i had used iphone up to series 4s and now i am usong others as i am not willing to pay so much more for a little 'humble' phone (actually i am a phone maniac/enthusiast and a collector).

happy trading pal.

What?... you mean the kewl factor for AAPL is no longer there?? Then, I must sell sell sell laugh.gif laugh.gif

Joke aside, imo AAPL stock price is actually divorced itself from the fundamentals. The fundamental story for AAPL remains intact, it is a good company making tons of money but because there are so many ppl owning this company, the expectation is really high. Any kind of less than stellar earning news, it will be punished. That's why, it is very frustrating for longs holder.

I'm just going to trade this thing and follow the price action.

Yahoo Finance will show if the stock got dividends or not.

Hmm I see - I'm holding USD in Maybank so there's no need for RM>USD conversion.

Even though the charges I prefer TT, I think the total came to $36 USD in fees all in
*
That's a cheap fee for TT from Malaysia to USA.
For USA back to Malaysia, US banks charge around $50-$60.

Anyway, tonight is Fed watch day. Market will opens down despite rate hike by Turkey (OPR 11% shocking.gif ).
Levels to watch: Sp500 1765.. better hold.

$50-$60 seems expensive - I transfer often from HK to Labuan in USD and the receiving charge is only about $15 USD or so, maybe from US is different
*
Well, here's the scoop. There should be no charge for RECEIVING side but the sender pays $50 fee to send out.

Therefore, if Malaysia banks only charge US$30 to send out, that's cheaper than the US side to send back into Malaysia.

So, does HK charge cheaper than $30 to send to Labuan? If you get charge for Sending AND Receiving, then, it could add up.

Oh btw. it depends how much you're transmitting, right?
Big amount over 10K - $50 fee is should be reasonable.

HK Charges $14.60 USD (approximately, it's in HKD and depends on exchange rate) to send

Usually it's a minimum of $10k at least so the fees aren't a major % of the overall payment.

This is always from/to USD accounts so there's no exchange of currencies involved.
*
That's good deal..

Now, at the Labuan bank, they don't require you to change it back to local MYR currency? You can keep it in USD?

Labuan Maybank is USD account, can hold in USD - they only charge a $4 for receiving (apart from what's taken by the intermediary banK)

From there I transfer to Maybank MYR/USD account the charge is $4 USD and no receiving charges to either (but of course, exchange rate applies of transferring to MYR acc)
*
Sounds good.

Have you found any where to transfer from USA to HK or USA to MYR cheaper than $50?

Let me know, I'll be real interested. brows.gif

Eyes on Fed..

That's a lot of fear already in the market. Bears are ready to pounce.

I can imagine what would happen if Fed suddenly stops buying instead of tapering $10bln off, and then begin
to tighten money by raising interest rate. brows.gif

Without the Fed, market will probably tank 50%, back to its fair value. SP500 @ 1000, Dow at 10000 laugh.gif

From past experience dealing with US companies, the wire fees there are always quite expensive.

The only way I can think of is signing up to a HSBC Premier account in USA and aHSBC  Premier USD account in Malaysia.

That way you should be able to withdraw to the HSBC USD account and transfer to Malaysia or HK without any fees. But this requires a RM200K deposit with HSBC in Malaysia (or HKD 1million in HK!)

Maybe transferring from US to a Maybank USD account rather than MYR will result in less charges?

Charges can vary a fair bit - I transferred from Labuan to IOM , UK and was charged $25 in IOM, $4 + $8.12 in Labuan. Another time I transferred from UK to UK and was charged over $100 USD  rclxub.gif
*
Well, I got HSBC Personal in USA and one in Singapore but heck, they still charge me $35 for the transfer.
But, I haven't not check out their Premier account.

I guess the banks want their fees no matter what. doh.gif

Maybe one day BitCoin will be adopted en masse to bypass these banks! laugh.gif
