QUOTE(singk @ Jun 10 2014, 01:55 PM) i see... so the old gearbox is bigger in size, or the new ones? about the gear ratio, probably they tweak the 1,2,3 gear ratio (maybe), as the rpm for 100km/h drive was still in the region of 2.5-3k rpm, which i presume it's still the old 2750rpm. Anyway, it's do look different from the myvi gearbox. If i not mistaken, old alza use the same gearbox as myvi's. new gearbox or not, regardless engine is still noisy at 110kph...

QUOTE(alextee1881 @ Jun 10 2014, 03:53 PM) Bridgestone Ecopia, as good as PS3 but cheaper. My experience bunga tahan lama since I drive about 120km a day. PS3 is like princess tyre, bunga cepat habis. Ecopia = PS3 meh...? Which series of Ecopia...? PS3 tak tahan becoz the tyre makan, especially when you throw your alza around corners, if just speeding in a straight line, any tyres also tahan lama one lar...

QUOTE(paperclip @ Jun 10 2014, 09:00 PM) U should never buy a msian car anymore...i believe msian car nvh will forever like dis.... Believe it or not, I've driven 3 MyVis before, all first gen... Never encounter a sudden surge in noise level reaching 110kph... Only Alza that is this shitty... It's becoz Alza has a heavy ass to haul, that's why engine stressed at high speed, hence my unique analogy of a strangling chicken forced to chicken run... It has nothing to do with whether or not malaysian cars are like this...

QUOTE(alexei @ Jun 11 2014, 08:46 AM) Kerb weight, Myvi is 950kg, and Alza Advanced is 1120kg. It is indeed a 160kg or 18% more. However, Myvi has 117Nm torque and Alza 136Nm torque, that's 16% more torque, so it seems sufficient to handle its weight. Unfortunately I've not been in an Alza before, but I've admired few of them while walking around P2 service center bays. For the engine noise, what does it sound like? Does it correspond to 2.8k RPM? One of the things I can think of, could it be the intake hose with the resonating chamber? Torque is mostly to address pickup or acceleration, not to sustain high speed... If you wanna know how it sounds like, get an Alza and rev it to around 2.8k to 3.3k rpm... It's a common issue of engine noise on pre-facelift Alza, lots of ppl complain about it between 110-130 kph... Beyond that the noise alleviates slightly, so sometimes I rather drive at 140kph... It could be some resonance somewhere, but it's hard to tell, me no expert...

QUOTE(alexei @ Jun 11 2014, 01:37 PM) Without torque, there is no hp. If the engine does not have enough torque to bring the car to that speed, then, the power is not produced. I googled a bit, and most of the comments are from wind and tyre noise when driving at high speed, and as for engine noise, it's the 'hard to reproduce tapping sound'... nothing about engine noise during high speed though. I don't know anyone driving an Alza willing enough to drive at that speed. I'm just trying to understand better, and hopefully be able to help. Sorry I asked. http://kereta.info/perodua-alza-problem-ch...t-and-solution/

QUOTE(singk @ Jun 11 2014, 04:46 PM) yep, torque is meant for pickup (to bring the mass up to speed), i drove my alza into the region of 2.8 and 3.3k rpm, yep, it feels comparatively noisy when the rpm venture into this range, but it's still bearable. A bit OOT, If you do some reference to myvi 1.5 torque curve, i bet you will not go into any rpm between 3k-4k region, the torque is relatively flat during this region, i.e rpm goes up, torque doesn't go up. the tuning for p2 engine are quite emphasis on low - mid torque, as the expense of high speed output. Proton goes different way (compare to P2). I think with current Alzas there's been some improvement in terms of noise insulation... But for the 2010 models, engine noise is terrible, and coupled with wind and tyre noises, it's actually hazardous... Few times the noise wore out my ears and felt fatigue driving long distance fighting to stay awake... There was once I dozed off for a few seconds driving on a highway... Long distance not taking about from Kedah to JB, it's just from Melaka to KL, less than 2 hours drive... It was after I did some sound proofing that things improved somewhat, but the engine noise was still apparent... Suffice to say, it's the worst Perodua car I've driven out of 5... I may not have the experience of current Proton cars, but my previous experiences with Wira 1.6 and Perdana V6, those are more comfy to drive... QUOTE(Kiefer @ Jun 12 2014, 01:22 PM) Shoot.. that's heart pain. with the height, looks like a small kid on bicycle and scratch all the way when about to fall down. Bicycle can do such "wide" a damage...? Motorcycle more likely... Since he said it's a parking spot, it's either a series of parking by the roadside, and someone intended to make a quick u-turn and scratched one part and scraped some paint off... Or if a parallel parking, the one beside it made too fast a turn to reverse out from parking...

QUOTE(stelamezie @ Jun 12 2014, 06:45 PM) Pity my Newly Married Wife (my car). And also my pocket T.T RM700 to repair this damage. You know 1 thing I hate most about parents, I am now age of 26. Once I got home; Mum:"What the hell did you do to your car this time?" Me:" I didn't hit any one but some one hit me when my car is parked nicely in a proper DBKL parking spot." Mum:" I can sure you did not park your car nicely thats why ppl hit into it." GOSH! During my Kenari Big Crash during year 2009, I was hit by a Toyota Vios at puchong highway and end up hit the proton saga (old version) which got me involved in a 7car chain crashed. Also my fault. T.T Off-topic advice: Time to move out from your parents' house... This post has been edited by Eithanius: Jun 12 2014, 06:52 PM

QUOTE(stelamezie @ Jun 15 2014, 09:42 PM) By the way, I saw a review on High grade petrol such as like our Shell V-Power and 95 stated that not all Car Engine knows how to appreciate the fuel quality difference. LIke an example, some cars may feels great increase of performance and smoothness once fuel in the high spec fuel and some cars don't. Alza no difference between fuel grades...

QUOTE(singk @ Jun 20 2014, 01:00 AM) guys, anyone experience whining sound from the engine compartment while cruising at 90kph with 2500rpm? the whining sound comes around 80kph around 2000rpm, fainted, it gets more obvious when approach 90kph at 2500rpm, push it to 100kph and it's not that obvious (probably the tyre noise getting louder). Transmission is AT. Putting the gear at N and rev the engine to 2500rpm and doesn't get any whining noise. Hence i suspect might be something around the gearbox. Common problem when I first got my car... I got used to it - either ears immuned to it or my sound proofing got rid of it... It's a nightmarish car ain't it...

QUOTE(singk @ Jun 20 2014, 02:09 AM) meaning to say since it's common hence it's normal? wow.... If you suspect the gearbox, perhaps it's time to schedule another appointment with SC... Gearbox problems dun play play... Like I said, it's common problem with pre-FL Alza, but I don't recall the sound coming from gearbox because when my car was idle with gear at N, I still get that whining sound when rev engine... You and I may have a different whining sound, and since you mentioned it, the FL Alza does come with a new gearbox ain't it...? New gearbox, new problem...

QUOTE(n8210 @ Jun 20 2014, 03:37 PM) They already have an authorized distributor but maybe the msia counterpart do bad job on promoting it locally... or they just hold on to it, and never push it. I have never heard of nankang until was recommended by the shop. Who would think taiwan produces their own tyres? I would imagine we, msia, thai, indon, china, vietnam, etc... makes the most tyres around the world. authorised distributor, not sole distributor... still can start business and promote...
