Hi all,
Just received my Proton X50 Flagship and want to get tint. After doing research, I narrowed down to 3M Crystalline and Llumar Pinnacle or P4-35 series. Any advice? Leaning towards 3M CR because skeptical about Llumar's 10Y warranty + claim to pay JPJ summon but higher asking price.

I received quote around RM3k for 3M CR with "made in USA tint" for sunroof. Is it normal to use different tint for windows/windscreen and the sunroof?

Thank you!

Looking for review on 3M Crystalline authorized dealer in Penang. I am aware of dealer list on 3M website. Can anyone share review and experience (workmanship, price etc)?

I am considering installing Raytech tints and wondering if its a good idea, but after reading through the last 80 pages or so, I really couldn't get any answers, except for a few postings which said "there were A LOT of bad reviews about Raytech", but I couldn't really find A LOT OF postings that actually gave a bad review, except for 1 or 2. Need your valuable opinion. My budget is RM1500 +/-.

Hi there,
Based on my research (as a customer, not SA), my summary is if your budget is ~RM2k, get Huper Optik. For ~RM3k then get 3M for best heat rejection or Llumar for security tint (Pinnacle series). Do note that pricing varies depending on car size, (e.g. small sedan/hatchback cheaper than mid-size SUV with sunroof).
Hope this is helpful.

Thank you sanakim for your feedback.

But is there anything BAD about Raytech? My reasons for choosing it :-
(1) I can tint my whole car for less than RM1500
(2) 7-year warranty
(3) They have a brand new workshop in PG, so I guess they'd still be around after 7 years in case there is a warranty claim

I got a quote of RM1600 from Ecotintas well. So knowing that I can pretty much have my car tinted around RM1500, guess I won't be spending 2k or anything more.

I do not require "security tint"and a "heat tint" is good enough. I do not expect the tint to not deteriorate at all in terms of heat rejection over the years, but as long as it is not obviously noticeable I m happy. Most importantly, I can just send my car in for a replacement tint if peeling/bubbling issue starts to occur.

Any better proposal other than a 2k Huper Optik and a 3k 3M? Your feedback is very much appreciated.

smile.gif If you already want to go for Raytech, go for it lah. No right or wrong just do your own research. I gave it a pass due to the many independent reviews throughout this forum and feedback from speaking to different SA from different brands.

Also note that within 3M, Raytech, Llumar itself there are many different grades of tint (e.g. 3M itself has Crystalline top spec, then Ceramic IR, then the FX HP then Ebony etc). So if you want 3M Ebony probably can get for your price range too. Make sure if you are comparing price, compare the same grade of tint by TSER, VLT, IR and UV rejection too.

Lastly, most reputable brands' warranties cover peeling/bubbling within the warranty period. 3M also gives performance guarentee if the measured performance (IRR iinm) drops by 10% or more within warranty period.

Did you get a quote from 3M, Huper Optik etc? Can PM me if you are looking for PG dealer for 3M, Huper. To be transparent, I am not SA ya, just another happy 3M customer. Anyway, what car are you looking to tint?

it still depends on your choice of tint regardless the brand, because most tinting brands have different grades too, i.e. if you choose RayTech, they have cheaper variants with lower TSER/IRR or higher grade variants with better heat rejection or security tint.

TSER value will determine the total solar energy rejected (or simply heat rejection). it is better to feel it yourself with the different grades of tints they have so you will know the difference. usually higher end ones you will feel lesser heat out of it. if you feel like the heat rejection is ok for the RM 1.5k variant you can go for it, everyone has their own budget and expectation thumbsup.gif

but be prepared if the TSER value is lower than 50% because it might be VERY HOT in msia  sweat.gif

Appreciate your sharing of thoughts.

The one quoted by Raytech is :-
(1) Windscreen F70 - VLT(72%), TSER(46%), IRR(75%)
(2) All other windows FC 55 (I requested all same instead of having it darker in the back windows) - VLT(58%), TSER(50%), IRR(75%)

After going through a lot of specs for different brands on the net, it seems for front windscreen of min. VLT70%, the TSER would be around 45%-60% max, a difference of 10-15% for low to high grade. For IRR, my guess is I would have less issue with wireless devices (smarttag & access cards) with something around 70%, right? Afterall, the car is air-conditioned, so that TSER difference of 10-15% probably won't make that much of a difference. In fact, I have been driving an accord for the last 10 years WITHOUT any aftermarket tinting (I don't think it is factory pre-tinted), and I had no problem with sweat!  laugh.gif

Anyway, I am just checking around making sure there is no major issues with Raytech, otherwise I can go with Ecotint (presumably no major issues too as I believe it is very widely used right?).

But one thing since sanakim mentioned the deterioration of heat rejection, Raytech 's warranty covers a 30% degrade, not 10% as mentioned covered by 3M. So I suppose that's why Raytech is cheaper, although I feel that's something I can bare with. Further more, if I look at Honda's official tint package "3M Horizon Safety", it actually comes with a front windscreen tint of TSER 25%!!!! 25%? 3M? The lowest grade I guess.

Oh btw, for 3M authorized dealer, other than the one listed on 3M website in Anson Road Penang, is there any other shop on PG island? I don't mind exploring more options as long as it doesn't require more money.  smile.gif

I don't know about Raytech's full list of products but here's 3M Crystalline numbers CR70: TSER 50% and IRR 97% and 3M CR60 TSER 53% and IRR 97%. This means ~3-4% TSER lower and ~20% lower IRR.

If you OK with slightly lower TSER, then choose whichever is cheapest Good luck! smile.gif

BTW, public service announcement: Just tested Smart Tag on 3M Crystalline CR70 on front windscreen and it works!

I was travelling ~20km/h and put the smart tag device on top of dashboard in front of steering wheel.

Can't guarentee it works for you but hope this helps anyone worried about this.

you did not cut hole for the smart tag but managed to get pass the booth? last time I was stuck at smart tag lane..  sad.gif
not sure if I'm going too fast or it's the battery is low (you know, the smart tag display don't really work  doh.gif )

but the next time I opened the window and used the smart tag outside it works.
*
Nope, didn't cut anything at all smile.gif Maybe I was just lucky. I was also using the older thicker smart tag and I checked battery was "Hi" on the display.

I also heard rumor some smart tag booth already upgraded to more sensitive equipment so can work with 3M. 3M salesperson also did not provide guarantee that it 3M Crystalline will work with Smart Tag. He said try and see tongue.gif All the best!

I assume the installer cut some area for u. It wont work smoothly for tint with 97% irr where the smart tag use infrared to send signal
*
Definitely not. I told him to tint full front windscreen and not to do cut anything and I will try if smart tag works.

I'm not sure why it works for me but here's my guess:
1) the toll booth receiver was upgraded so more sensitive
2) drove at 10-15km/h when passing the toll booth
3) battery in smart tag was full
4) using the older thick smart tag which is apparently more powerful
5) driving X50 which is higher off the ground

Only way to know for your situation is to test it out. Any other folks with 3M crystalline 70 for front windscreen can share experience?

How would we know if the warranty given is genuine or not? Since there are many fake 3M products as you mentioned, I suppose if they can fake the tint, they can also fake the warranty cert (high resolution color printing is widely available to anyone nowadays), even e-warranty can be faked too right?

I am just wondering, since someone here mentioned the end quality of tinting car window is 50% product, 50% workmanship, if the installer somehow screwed up a bit on the installation (which is the workmanship part), would 3M headquarter consider that as part of their product warranty?

Just like if I buy a Panasonic aircond which comes with 1 years warranty, and then my installer screwed up the installation, resulting in leaky gas, I suppose Panasonic would ask me to get my installer to fix it, as that is not Panasonic's problem, right?
*
I received an e-warranty directly from 3M Malaysia Sdn Bhd in my registered email and printed from the website. For my case, two days after installation, I noticed a tiny scratch on one of the windows and the applicator immediately replaced the tint no questions asked and asked me to sign a form to claim the 3M warranty.

For 3M tint you can find authorized dealers on their website: https://www.3m.com.my/3M/en_MY/automotive-w.../find-a-dealer/

If you want to question if website is genuine or not then I no comment liao.. Generally, price is an indicator whether warranty is genuine.. if it's too good to be true, it probably is.

If on the 3M website then safe lah; don't worry so much. Standard 3M Crystalline e-warranty is 5 years.

cx-5 but i only request for driver, passenger and front windscreen

Then makes sense lah. Your package don't have rear windows, rear windscreen and sunroof so half the tint area and about half price. If you take full package 2xRM1288 = RM2576 is about correct price without sunroof.

Fantastic thumbsup.gif

Vkool REM is this legit?

For X50, I got offer as such:

Vkool Elite (windscreen) + Vkool REM 50 (front drive/passenger) +  Vkool REM 40 (rear passenger/rear windscreen)

Total RM2,200

Decent? Or should I go for regular, non-REM Vkool?
*
Depends on your budget.. typically VKool quote for X50 is in RM3500-4000 range. I don't think the REM40/50's TSER is competitive.

Compared to 3M:
a. VLT 50%: VKOOL REM50 TSER 31%, 3M CR50 59% TSER
b. VLT 40%: VKOOL REM40 TSER 49%, 3M CR40 62% TSER
