hey i didnt not realize there's a car tint advise thread lol

created one myself sweat.gif

anyway, i'll just copy paste my content from the thread, please do advise nod.gif thanks!

======

hi tinting sifus/car sifus,

today i was surveying around a tint shop near my home and asked his shop for recommendations

so before that let me summarize my current car vs what he recommended and do let me know if its a good step to take forward to

> my car currently has a tint, which can prevent heat but it has no privacy as its only 30% dark
> went over to his shop and explained to him my situation and what i want to achieve from the tint application

> i wanted it to be about 70% dark and he recommended me this:
- dont take off my current tint which is about 4milli thick
- apply his in-house tint ON TOP of my current tint
- i did ask him if it will make my window harder to roll down as its thicker now but he said it wont
- asked about smart tag detection issues and he said also wont happen as the tint has about 90% of IR? on his portable scale thing (UV was 0%, 1 more was about 43%, i forgot whats it called and 1 more is IR which is at 89%)

need your advise if its do-able? tint on top of tint, will it have any effect of doing so? hmm.gif

thanks!

add on: also he quote me RM750 only including installation. lol to use his in-house tint and apply it on top of my current tint.

apparently the shop only started operations this year 2018.

Whoever ask you to add tint are probably not professionals or couldn't give a flying fk about your problems and just want quick money.

Additional layers will affect the light spectrum especially at night. If u have already night viewing issues I strongly don't recommend to add additional layers. But if u just want it done cheap and fast, don't care about all these issue, then go ahead.

I did try that before only for the back windscreen, and I can tell u additional layer of tint skewed the light spectrum quite badly. Car headlights become starburst if the tint is different specifications or brand especially.

Then later u complain they will tell u it's the competitors tint, not thiers until u get fedup and remove and redo

Sounds familiar?

hi!

thanks for the response.. after much research i've decided to walk into an official raytech store and asked for some product info as well as price quote.. surprisingly not very far from the 1st place i went to.. only extra 200 for a peace of mind.

yeap i wont be considering the 1st place already.. because after hearing how raytech explains it, the 1st one feels like a conman place.

anyway, another question i want to ask...

do you think JPJ/road block will stop me if i use the same amount of darkness level for the rear passenger seat for the 2 front seats?

as the sales guy recommended me (based on what i want) to put the 4 windows to be the same as what JPJ approved for the 2 rear passenger tint

as for front windshield tint he recommend putting 100% JPJ compliance one because if i choose to go darker, i might have driving visibility issues. (which i think this is a good recommendation, since the windshield should always be visible)

meaning to say, 4 passenger windows = VLT 30%

front and back = JPJ compliance %

what do you think? hmm.gif

anyway, how big is the difference between 75% and 85% of IR rejection?

how do we compare the performance of it? (is it like.. 85% cools the car by 30 seconds faster or something like that? hmm.gif )

since im paying extra 500 for that 10% with different tint films proposed, i just need some clarification on this. lol.

thanks! nod.gif

I wish to highlight something based on my experience. The driving visibility issue depends on the tint film. My current car is tinted with 3M crystalline 60 for fws, and the driving visibility at night is still very much acceptable, compared to my previous cap ayam tint with about the same VLT. For daytime driving I wish it was darker, especially on NSE. So, I am wondering what film the installer uses to cause him to worry about driving visibility.
Do note that to get 100% JPJ compliance tint of 70%VLT for fws, you will need to use a tint with much higher VLT, say, 90%, because the windscreen usually does not have 100% VLT to begin with. With such high VLT, it's more difficult to find a film with good TSER.

For the side windows, do you intend to choose a VLT 30 film, or you want the final tinted window glass to have VLT of 30%? Either way, one look can tell that the front windows won't pass the requirement and you can still be stopped.
The bold statement is contradicting itself. You either don't care about VLT which opens up a whole lot of choice for you, or you go for compliance which affects heat rejection.

thanks for the explanation

anyway i might consider these instead:

huper optik = 60/40/40

haverkamp = 70/40/40

meaning to say 60 for FWS is like the most optimal already for good driving experience at night?

if go lets say like 50% VLT then its defintely gonna mess with the view? hmm.gif
