Thank you for the reply.  rclxms.gif
I always thought that thinner laptop = better thermal profile  sweat.gif
Changed my list:

1. Any reputable brand (Windows only)
2. 2.5K
3. Daily study use (assignments, projects), Entertainment (movies)
4. 13 - 15

Extra:
Thin, Light, OK heat dissipation, Long battery life, OK display

At least 500Gb Memory and 4Gb RAM
Some told me to get at least i5 because i3 are mostly old models, any advice?  hmm.gif

Any laptops that is the nearest to what I'm looking for? Thanks again  notworthy.gif

You don't need i5. The latest gen (Haswell) also has i3 CPU.

Dell
Vostro 5470, i3-4010U + Intel HD4400@RM1899, 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8, 3-cell
Vostro 5470, i3-4010U + Intel HD4400 + 32GB mSATA + 500GB(5400rpm) + (1366x768;touch)@RM2149, 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8, 3-cell
Inspiron 14 7000, i5-4200U + Intel HD4400 + 32GB mSATA + 500GB(5400rpm)@RM2699[2.02kg], 6GB(soldered), , W8SL, backlit keyboard, 58Whr, No ODD

Lenovo
S410p, i5-4200U + Intel HD4400M@RM1699[2.1kg], 4GB, 500GB, FreeDOS

Prices are RSP, negotiable.
FreeDOS mean you need to get and install OS yourself.
Use the remaining of your budget, if any, to extend warranty (Dell to 3 years ~ RM250).

Yes all four and they stayed above 85% throughout the simulation (Matrix based optimization in conjunction with ODE). The total simulation is ~3 min, but just ~2min of the heavy part simulation.
*
Then you better go for i7 quad core mobile CPU if you want to shorten the simulation time.

If you prefer Haswell (4th gen) i7, then the cheapest currently:

Lenovo
Y410p, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia GT755M(GDDR5)@RM2899, 4GB, 1TB, DOS, red backlit, 120w psu, swappable ODD, 2 years warranty
Z510, i7-4702MQ + Nvidia GT740M@RM2799[2.2kg], 4GB, 1TB, backlit, W8; 2 yrs

Negotiate, and it should be only slightly above your budget.

Does it change anything or i7-4700mq still best option or go back i5-4200u?

i7 quad core still better as its single core performance is better than i5 ULT.

Thanks for the prompt respond, appreciate your help very much.
i have some confusion  rclxub.gif , you recommend Inspiron 15 7000 vs 15R but i check the spec and price seem like 15R is cheaper with better spec, is there any hidden spec i dont see on Dell website?

Same processor, window and screen but
15 7000 vs 15R
6GB Ram vs 8GB Ram
7500GB HDD vs 1TB HDD
Intel® HD Graphics 4400 vs AMD Radeon™ HD 8670M 2GB DDR3
RM2899 vs RM2299

Thanks

Laptop is expensive compared to desktop. For that budget, you need to taper your expectation smile.gif

Hi guys, need help on new laptop

1. Preferred Brand : Any
2. Budget : Below RM2600
3. Usage : office word, casual light game, must have touch screen, most importantly long battery life
4. Preferred laptop/screen size : 13 to 14

Thanks a lot, guys.
*
If "casual light game" mean FB flash game, then Intel HD IGPU is sufficient. You don't need powerful CPU to run MS Office Word (i3 is overkill smile.gif )

13"
Samsung
Book 9 Lite NP915S3G-K01MY, AMD A6-1450 + AMD HD8250 + 128GB SSD + (1366x768;touch)@RM1999[1.58kg], 4GB, W8
CPU is around Intel Celeron level, but enough for your usage. Battery run time is not the best due to the small capacity battery.

14"
Dell
Inspiron 14R, i3-4010U + Intel HD4400 + (1366x768;touch)@RM1988 [2.32kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8 , 6 cell (make sure it is 6 cell battery not 4 cell)
Inspiron 14 7000, i5-4200U + Intel HD4400 + 32GB mSATA + 500GB(5400rpm) + (1366x768; Touch) @RM2999[2.02kg], 6GB(soldered), , W8SL, backlit keyboard, 58Whr, No ODD
Vostro 5470, i3-4010U + Intel HD4400 + 32GB mSATA + 500GB(5400rpm) + (1366x768;touch)@RM2149, 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8, 3-cell

Sony
Vaio SVF14416SG, A8-5545M + AMD HD8510G + (1366x768;touch)@RM1999, 2GB, 500GB, W8SL (need to put in more RAM, 4GB stick ~ RM100)

Prices are RSP, negotiable.

If your main concern is gaming performance, then go with Y410P.
If you like good warranty support, then take the Inspiron 14R and use the remaining of your budget to extend warranty to 3 years ( ~ RM300).

For your budget, the best GPU you can get is GT740M.
Other than the HP you found, can also look at the following:

Dell
Inspiron 14R, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT740M@RM1849 [2.32kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), Linux, 6 cell; W8@RM2049

2. Budget:<Rm3000

4. Preferred laptop/screen size:13,14,15inch

I don't know what is the price of Vaio Pro 13 , I wish you would tell me as well.

Thank you for your precious time for helping me.

RSP for Vaio Pro 13:
Vaio SVP13218PGB, i7-4500U + Intel HD4400 + 256GB SSD + (1920x1080)@RM4999[1.06kg], 4GB, W8SL, stylus

So it's out of your budget. In fact most 13" models are out of your budget smile.gif

Do you mean you are starting your degree in Architecture?
You will use software to do 3D modelling, which mean you should look for laptop models with discrete GPU.

Since you mentioned Viao Pro 13, I supposed you prefer something lighter? Then forget about 15" (mostly > 2kg).
Look for something like these instead:

Acer
V5-473PG-54204G50, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT740M +(1366x768;touch)@RM2299, 4GB, 500GB,W8 *no OD

- AMD Radeon™ HD 8850M
- Windows 8 64-bit

for the dell laptop, would it be alright without integrated graphic to play some good graphic games?
is it an optional to choose whether it would have the touch screen or not? if it is, how much do i have to pay for that?

which of these has better audio performance? and what is the drawback of having non genuine windows 8?

i'm thinking of dell laptop because i could save some from it. but i still need opinion in this.

thanks, in advance  nod.gif

S550CB - more responsive due to the mSATA 24GB SSD caching.
15R - longer battery run time due to 4th (Haswell) gen CPU and larger battery (6 cells).
Gaming performance - GT740M and HD8850M is about on par, performance vary depending on game titles.

"for the dell laptop, would it be alright without integrated graphic to play some good graphic games?" - don't understand this question. The 15R has discrete GPU. All Intel CPU has integrated graphic (IGPU).

Inspiron 15R, i7-4500U + AMD HD8850M (GDDR5) @RM2499[2.32kg], 8GB, 1TB(5400rpm), Linux, 65WHr; W8SL@RM2699
Inspiron 15R, i7-4500U + AMD HD8850M (GDDR5) + (1366x768, Touch)@RM3099[2.32kg], 8GB, 1TB(5400rpm), W8SL, 65WHr
don't bother with touchscreen on 15" conventional laptop form factor.

Audio - both are pretty ok for laptop (laptop audio sucks anyway laugh.gif ). You will get better sound from cheap (~ RM100) external desktop speakers.

"drawback of having non genuine windows 8" - ???
If you mean the Linux spec, that mean you need to get and install OS yourself.
As for captain jack w8, not appropriate to discuss on LYN smile.gif
