Hmm...is there any other choice for no touch screen laptop? And can ignore the battery life. The choices you gave a bit over budget, because I still want to upgrade the ram to 8gb, it's an additional cost too.

About the win8, I felt that it didnt do so well in terms of user friendly...
*
downgraded the Vostro 5470 with this :

Dell
Vostro 5470, i3-4010U + Intel HD4400@RM1899, 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8, 3-cell

maintaining the thin and lightweight profile, good battery life and still have room for SSD and RAM upgrade too. and, better to get an external wifi receiver as well, as this laptop's built-in wifi receiver is kinda weak. those value receivers are priced around RM20 for normal and RM40++ for good ones.

beside i have no idea how is this type custom laptop performance is...
*
cut down your config, especially the ssd. by the way, if you wanted to take ssd, take standalone ones (not mSATA) as you have a secondary HDD bay.

so to conclude, better take i7 upgrade and 1tb upgrade 1st. ssd later.

EDIT : this laptop's performance is the same as MSI GS70. the reason I suggest this bare bone laptop is because the windows. you can choose to install windows 7 or 8 and it is free of bloatwares.

Hi guys,Ii need recommendation for laptop brands with international warranty that covers New Zealand. My sis is buying one to bring back there since electronic price is expensive there when compared to Malaysia.

Previously bought a HTC phone with international warranty but the international warranty for the phone does not cover New Zealand. Is it the same case with some of the laptop brand international warranty?
*
follow the format in the 1st page please.

and, do bother to read the policies of International Warranty by each manufacturers to find out which countries are included, which are excluded. the booklet can be found on their websites.

Hi guys, need help to choose laptop for my father.

1. Preferred Brand : Anything except Acer and Apple

2. Budget : RM2.5K ~ RM3K

3. Usage : For home usage only

4. Preferred laptop/screen size : 15.6" and above, no need i7 also ok.

And my father want a SSD as main storage and for OS too. So if the laptop ori hdd change to SSD would the recovery option disappear?

Thanks smile.gif
*
your budget, wont allow you to get a new Apple. laugh.gif
anyway :

Lenovo
S510p, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT720M@RM1849[2.4kg], 4GB, 500GB, DOS

Dell
Inspiron 15, i5-4200U + AMD HD8670M @RM1699[2.25kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), 6-cell, Linux; W8.1SL@RM1899

Lenovo
G500S, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT720M@RM1699, 4GB, 500GB, FreeDOS

price is RSP and negotiable, some more leaving some room for you to upgrade to 256GB SSD for RM600++.
by the way, you will lose recovery if you swap to SSD. better to take those freeDOS laptops.

Thanks...
Small questions...smile.gif

between MQ and U type processor, i believe MQ is higher performance. But the Lenovo's lack in RAM, while Dell
better in term of RAM and graphics, is there obvious difference?

Is there much difference btw all the dedicated graphics? all is different. RAM should be no problem since it's upgradable i think (sorry newbie here).

Thanks again.
*
if you do a lot of multitasking, the RAM will benefit you, while gaming take advantage mainly on GPU and 50% of the CPU as well. i say 50% of CPU because most of the games are resource hogs and will take advantage of quad core processors (while the U isnt a quad core).

as for dedicated graphics difference, the GT755M is 5% better than the GT750M but still subjected to the CPU like i said before.

gt750m sli or gtx760m? which one is actually better? cause from what i heard sli in laptop is not so efficient..

normally i will prefer single graphics rather than dual graphics but nvidia's SLI is at a clearer side than amd's crossfire as SLI is much more stable than crossfire.

however, i still want to state single graphics (GTX760M) is better.

but from what i check from notebookcheck.net, gt750m sli has higher rank than gtx760m.. any disadvantages of sli? cause normally in desktop, sli or crossfire could b quite hard to setup and configure
*
yes, GT750M SLI is better than GTX760M but normally the single cards are better. lower TDP and performance is more or less.
main disadvantage is about 10% of the games dont support it and battery consuming. compared to desktop, SLI in the Y510P/410P is preset and everything is just like plug and play (easy setup).

for alienware m18x/18's case, the cable must be present in order activate SLI/Crossfire.
