Hi all
Please recommend:
1. Preferred Brand : Anything that is reliable and can last long
2. Budget : < RM2.5K
3. Usage : Some office works and mainly for Dota2 on the go.
4. Preferred laptop/screen size : 14 inch.
*
if you want a laptop that can last longer, you should maintain it once every 3 months to avoid the dust clogging at the heatsinks. clogged airflow results in raise of core temperature and may even lead to damage under a short/long term (heat is the main enemy of laptops). anyway, suggestions :

Dell
Inspiron 14R, i7-4500U + Nvidia GT750M (GDDR5) @RM2499[2.32kg], 8GB, 1TB(5400rpm), Ubuntu 12.04 , 6 cell; W8SL@RM2699

Lenovo
Z400 touch, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT740M + (1366x768, touch)@RM2399, 4GB, 1TB, W8; 2 years warranty

ASUS
K451LB-WX071H, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT740M@RM2199, 4GB, 750GB, W8

HP
Pavilion 14-N059TX, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT740M@RM2099[2.03kg], 4GB, 750GB, W8; colors: silver/black

prices are RRP and negotiable.

QUOTE(Eshinix @ Jan 24 2014, 03:49 AM)
thanks.... may i know differrence between SSD, HDD and mSata?

I am actually interested in the  HP i mentioned earlier but the only let down is the display isn't IPS display. Would it be a huge disadvantage?

If you have ever seen it, what do you think on that laptop? thankss!
*
you can always google about SSD, HDD and mSATA. there are lots of writers out there willing to write a difference for everyone.

even if it is a let down, i'd suggest you to visit your nearest reseller and play with the unit for a while. sometimes, personal experience maybe different.

everyone has their own period of maintenance. i just wrote based on the best period, that is a regular service period.

Any help would be appreciated
1: Sony/Dell (prefer Sony)
2: Around 2-2.5k
3: Some gaming(like league of legends and some games from steam) and multimedia like movies and such also editing with Photoshop and video editing
4: Screen size is either 14" or 15"
4.5: I've been setting my eye on 2 laptops, Sony vaio SVF14318SG , and Dell inspiron 15r ( I opened a thread about the amd hd8850m version but it seems like it's not available anymore but idk)

Any other laptop recommendation would help alot. Thank you in advance.
*
take Inspiron 14R with i7 and GT750M. it has a better GPU than the Sony Vaio.

5. Must have dvd-rom, as light as possible, prefer SSD if possible( though i don't tink so with 1.5k budget)
*

Dell
Inspiron 14-3437, i3-4010U + Intel HD4400@RM1399[1.99kg], Ubuntu, 4GB, 750GB(5400rpm), 4-cell; W8SL@RM1549

QUOTE(okf987 @ Jan 25 2014, 12:22 AM)
Hey guys gona get myself a new lappy but not sure if I should wait for next-gen or more newer tech for this year.
I also not in a rush to get one if there is one coming up that should I get it this year please do recommend.

1. Preferred Brand : Any brand is fine but I would prefer one with better reliability.
2. Budget : 3-5k
3. Usage : 100% gaming cool2.gif . I got another lappy for work  tongue.gif
4. Preferred laptop/screen size : 15.6" above.

Additional notes:

Dont care about weight will sacrifice that for performance. Mainly looking for a desktop replacement.

Initially thinking about getting ajuls' TOSHIBA QOSMIO X75. Link here: https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3028139

And also thinking about the MSI gaming series maybe the GS70.

Not sure which to choose need some advice  rclxub.gif
*
regarding the Toshiba Qosmio X75 by ajul, you need to consider about the warranty 1st. this is what he said :

QUOTE
*Not sure cover in TOSHIBA Msia or not. u Can call TOSHIBA and check urself. i sell cheap so i hope less hassle.

so my impression that this set might be an AP set, which likely that the warranty for that laptop is not covered in Malaysia. anyway, if you a lucky person, that set might last you a very long time.

by the way, hope you can consider other suggestions as well :

ASUS
N56JR-S4018H, i7-4700HQ + Nvidia GTX760M + (1920x1080)@RM3999[2.7kg], 12GB, 1TB, W8.1, backlit keyboard

Lenovo
Y510p, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia GT750M(GDDR5) + (1920x1080)@RM3999[2.7kg], 8GB, 1TB, W8, red backlit, GN37 exGPU & ODD, 120w+170w psu, 2 yrs

Illegear
RE-15, i5-4200M + Nvidia GTX765M + (1920x1080)@RM3499[2.6kg][Onkyo, SoundBlaster Cinema], 4GB, 500GB(7200rpm), FreeDOS, [CPU Options: i5-4200M - i7-4900MQ]
RS-15 Lite, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia GTX770M + (1920x1080)@RM4999[3.1kg][Onkyo, SoundBlaster X-FI MB3], 8GB, 500GB(7200rpm), FreeDOS, [CPU Options: i5-4200M - i7-4900MQ] [GPU Options: Nvidia GTX765M, Nvidia GTX770M, Nvidia Quadro K1000M]
Illegear RE-17, i5-4200M + Nvidia GTX765M + (1920x1080)@RM3699[3.2kg][Onkyo, SoundBlaster Cinema], 4GB, 500GB(7200rpm), FreeDOS, [CPU Options: i5-4200M - i7-4900MQ]

dont really recommend you to get GS70, as according to reviews, it will hit 100C on load. oh ya btw, the genuine set by Toshiba Malaysia, Qosmio X70 (not X75) :

Toshiba Qosmio X70-A100X, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia GTX770M + (1920x1080) + Bluray@RM6299[4xharman kardon], 16GB, 1TB, W8; color: black; 3 years local warranty (1st year on-site)

prices are RRP and negotiable. my best choice go for Illegear, as you can customize a lot of stuffs.

i did own a lappy with amd gpu and somehow i found out that after i update the driver, my gaming fps seems to drop.. dono why..

best to revert to that older driver if you find out fps drops in newer drivers. its just like using an android phone, using the latest kit kat update doesnt mean that its flawless and have major improvements.

im not nvidia user, but based on reviews, they have some slight improvements. and not to mention, those driver updates mostly target at games that are problematic to the particular build of driver.

any by the way, this is a laptop recommendation thread. further driver issues can be discussed at nvidia and AMD's topic at hardware section.

specs wise, the MSI is a clear winner but the screen may not as good as ASUS (MSI's weakness is at the screen). both laptops' cooling system are average.

i'd suggest you to take a look at those laptops after CNY, as personal experience may be different.
