1. Preferred Brand : Asus/Toshiba/Dell/ (mac?)/other reputable ones.
2. Budget: RM3k to 3.5k
3. Usage: light fb gaming, blu-ray movies, light photoshopping, uni presentation slides & documents etc
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 11 to 13

My brother had an Asus UX31A. It is pretty smooth and all but he said it lags when streaming videos on fullscreen (youtube). Playing videos using 3rd party program like VLC or windows media player works fine though.

Can anyone recommend/show me some options? smile.gif should i get a mac?
*
youtube streaming actually uses flash player, which is a CPU independent program. so a weak CPU is the normally the cause but as for your brother's case, its weird as the ULV CPU is enough to support 1080p streaming with flash players. i dont really suggest you to get Mac, since there are better ones in the market. by the way, is it necessary for you to have full HD screen? because those with full HD screens are kinda out of your budget.

ASUS
T300LA-C4001H, i5-4200U + Intel HD4400 + 128GB SSD + (1920x1080 IPS; touch)@RM3399[1.1+0.8kg], 4GB, W8.1, keyboard dock (hybrid)

Dell
XPS13, i5-4200U + Intel HD4400 + 128GB SSD + (1920x1080; Touch)@RM3999[1.37kg], 8GB, W8.1, backlit, 55Whr

Acer
Aspire S7-392-74504G12, i7-4500U + Intel HD4400 + 128GB SSD + (1920x1080; touch)@RM3999[1.3kg], 4GB, W8.1

Toshiba
Portégé Z930-2035, i5-3337U+ Intel HD4000 + 128GB SSD@RM3799, 6GB W8, 3 years

EDIT : prices are RRP and negotiable.

1. Preferred Brand : ANything except DELL/HP/ACER (my blacklisted brands)
2. Budget: Around 2-3k
3. Usage: Video editing, mid range gaming
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 14 inch. I dont mind 15 but yeah prefer 14.
5. PReferably with a dedicated GPU.

I just bought my DELL vostro 5470 a couple of weeks ago and now it is on its way back to DELL due to WIFI problem and they cant get it fixed. -.-
*
take advantage of quad core and a mid-range GPU. icon_rolleyes.gif

*EDIT : as sifu nexus mentioned*

by the way, did you tried to ask for total replacement for the Dell?

Quad Core means i7 isit?

DELL gave me a total refund but charge laptop shipping using DHL which is RM80 and thats all.
*
i7 has 2 types, one is ULV (physically dual core) and another is physically quad core. the one i mentioned by sifu nexus is i7-4700MQ, which is quad core.

as for the Dell, i think its because luck. some have problems like yours, some dont and working fine.

Thanks for your suggestion Koyomi. But my friend's Dell harddisk failed twice before.. so I scare already... Did u have  some similar feedback before?  blush.gif
*
its all luck. not everything is made perfect, thats why electronic products are guaranteed for.
if you scare of hard disk failure, is possible to get a Seagate or WD, as those are more reliable.

and keyboard quality is bad either (not sure now insprion 7000 how).
*
still bad, too. i had demoed all Inspion 7000 units and every of them have shallow sinks. to add, Inspiron 17 7000 keyboard has the most flex when pressure applied, resulting in a build quality drop (instead of the chassis).

1. Preferred Brand - Lenovo, Sony, or any other brand (most importantly can play games smoothly + won't overheat)
2. Budget - RM 2,200 ~ RM 2,500
3. Usage - Gaming, surfing website, watch movie
4. Preferred laptop/screen size - 15"
*
welcome /k/tard. thumbup.gif
anyway, your budget allows you to get a mid-range GPU, so not possible for you to play on high settings. icon_rolleyes.gif as long you maintain your laptop, there wont be overheat issue. your choices :

Dell
Inspiron 15R, i7-4500U + AMD HD8850M (GDDR5) @RM2499[2.32kg], 8GB, 1TB(5400rpm), Linux, 65WHr; W8SL@RM2699

Lenovo
Z510, i5-4200M + Nvidia GT740M@RM2399[2.2kg], 4GB, 1TB, backlit, W8; 2 yrs, color: white
Z510, i7-4702MQ + Nvidia GT740M@RM2799[2.2kg], 4GB, 1TB, backlit, W8; 2 yrs

prices are RRP and negotiable.

how u noe im /k/tard LOL!
Btw, is lenovo reliable and durable?? some said not durable etc..

and how much is the z510 i7?

how about  MSI GP60 2OD-259MY 15.6" Gaming Laptop/ Notebook
[RM2,479]
http://www.techhypermart.com/notebooks/msi...p-notebook.html
*
because your name is famous in /k/. laugh.gif
for Lenovo's reliability, it depends on luck normally. some are happy with the quality, some dont.

for Z510 with i7, i tried after negotiation, i can get RM2600 lowest.

for the MSI GP60 you mentioned, the advantage there is matte full HD screen but MSI is known for inaccurate colours (even worse than Lenovo). besides, it comes with i5-4200M, which is a dual core. so i'd suggest you to go out and compare the 2 models by your own. i believe your experience is different than mine. icon_rolleyes.gif

1. Preferred Brand = MSI or Lenovo
2. Budget = Below 3.5k market price.
3. Usage = gaming and designs
4. Preferred laptop/screen size = 15" and above

please sifus. really need some recommandation!

Lenovo
Y510p, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia GT755M(GDDR5) + (1920x1080)@RM3399[2.7kg], 8GB, 1TB, W8.1, red backlit, swappable ODD, 120w psu, 2 yrs

MSI
GE60-2OC, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia GT750M(GDDR5) + (1920x1080; anti-glare)@RM3599,8GB, 750GB(7200rpm), W8, steel series KB

i would say, go for Y510P. better thermal profile and better screen colour than the MSI. price is RSP and negotiable.

Mind explaining why you say so for that particular model?

his Vostro 5470 has problem with the wifi card, which is a big issue for 5470 users. thats why he is unsatisfied.

BTW for low end laptops dell vs lenovo which one have a better quality
Since even for high end laptops lenovo have quality issues I'm a bit sceptical about lenovo
*
no brand is perfect bro. no matter how much money you pay for it, one day it will still down. thats why its important to maintain your laptop and have a good warranty service.

Go with GS70, much better build.
*
to add, you may want to use an external keyboard. gaming on the GS70's palm rest is extremely uncomfortable, due to high temperatures.

any way to solve it ?

cooler pad ?
*
none of them will work. ups and downs of a thin and thick gaming laptop :

Thinness - Light weight/Portable, Poor heat dissipation/cooling
Thick - Heavy, Good heat dissipation/cooling

so, i'd suggest you to make a research, instead of getting spoon fed.

sorry if i spoiled someone's purchase here but Lenovo Y40/Y50 have been debuted at CES 2014. comes with full HD or optional 4K screen. there is non-touch and optional touch versions too, even thinner and lighter (this is mood breaking point. shakehead.gif )
