Hey guys, I'm planning to get a P408 2.0 but I do have some concerns. Do you guys mind sharing your experience on this?

1. I heard the after sales service is really bad, is it really the case or just some branches are bad like with Toyota.
2. I took 2 cars for test drive from 2 different branches, one of them was perfect, but the other, the gearbox jerks when i'm slowing down to stop and there's a wheezing sound from the steering. Is this normal for these cars?
3. The current sale of 95k without insurance is for cars made in 2013. My SA tells me that even if I purchase the car in January with the same offer (if they choose to extend it), the car will still be considered 2013 and I will still loose 1 year resale value.
4. Anyone have any problems with the car being converted from Left to Right hand drive? I have read that the wiper is longer on the left but each time i went for a drive, it was dry weather so I'm not sure how this impacts the driveability.
5. I'm reading about electrical problems especially with the battery. Common or just unlucky or early model issues?

I'm thinking that some of these may have already been answered before but there's over 600 pages of reading. I've read as much as I could over the past 5 days. My SA is giving me a further 2k discount on the price making this a pretty good offer but these concerns are still bugging me.

Thanks in advance.

Let me try to address some of your questions.
1. Generally continental cars workshops are perceived as not offering better service compared to local or japanese cars workshops. Reasons could be a) less workshops available - not enough man power or slots to look at each car thoroughly b) conti cars are more sophisticated (this is what you pay for), so there will be more areas for problems to occur. Remember the merc owner who smashed her windscreen in Penang SC? wink.gif I have no other issues with my car, other than a small tyre pressure loss which cannot be detected using normal methods, I even sent to third party workshops, still undetected. After Christmas, I am sending in to Glenmarie overnight to check, this time specifically checking on valve. Hope they find the problem. This only happens to me, AFAIK.
2) I drive 408T. So, can't comment on this, but a new car should be smooth.
3) There are 2 important dates - manufacturing date and registration date. If you buy in Jan 2014, chances are the car is manufactured in 2013. Don't bother about resale value lah, you're buying a 2.0L conti car below rm100k, apa lu mau lagi?
4) No problem.
5) My battery died after 3k km. In my case, I use the USB port all the time to play mp3. It's under warranty, so I replaced the battery in SC. Some owners reported that they used the battery beyong 20k km.

Edit: I am even thinking of getting the 408 Griffe, if someone will give me a good offer.

Thanks wjchay. Much appreciated. smile.gif
I know its a great deal given that it's a conti but resale value is still an important factor, unless you're planning to use the car forever. I'm planning to change mine in no more than 5 years. I've found that most makes and models go only about 5 years before the problems outweigh the additional commitments of buying a new car. Older cars are of course an exception. My 97 Camry went for 10 years before it became problematic and that was mostly due to poor maintenance on my part....personal financial crisis at the time.

hi Newbie838, i wonder how much is selling price that ur SA offer you after the further 2k deduction. I get offer at rm 102,888 with insurance & 5 yr free service. Still thinking
*
I'm getting RM96042 with insurance but without 5 years free maintenance. That's an extra 5k.
With NCD deductions (55%), it comes to RM94442.

My Gf is driving the 408. I had similar experience with my Myvi as well. Mine was the spark plug cable problem.
*
I had a similar problem on my Vios. It went away after the V-Belt was replaced and the relays in the ECU box were re-seated.

Hi all, noob question on HU player.
Those aftermarket OEM touchscreen player, 1 DIN 2 DIN... whats that ah?
*
DIN is the size of the head unit. It's standardized as below (taken from Wikipedia).
DIN (180 x 50 mm panel) or double DIN (180 x 100 mm panel) size

Can anyone recommend a good tint / tint shop in Klang Valley?
I just placed booking 2 days ago for a 408 NA and wanna prepare for the "arrival". The SA recommended Solar Safe Ultimate for 1800. Any thoughts?

3M Crystalline , not bad, last year RM1600

1600 for 3M Crystalline? That's cheap. Last time I checked 3 years ago for my Vios was 2200.
Mind sharing where you got that price?

I have used both. My oil change is always around 7K. Did not feel any difference and am sure both will easily last till 10K. However ash content of Total is lower than Syntium.
*
Any reason for the 7k oil change?

If you have a serious problem, then I would recommend Balakong or Glenmeri. Have not visited Balakong, but that is the main center. I expect there'd be a higher level of expertise there.
*
Can't recall where but I read somewhere that Balakong gives good service.

Thanks skyjack...
Early next month due 20k service but meter showing 12k only (now).. under utilized..haha
I’m thinking whether worth paying extra for total or not.. when i did my 10k service, i requested for total ..
Btw, should we just go to only one service center for service rather than once here, once there? Coz if any replacement or claim, that branch have a full record of your service..
*
Don't know about Peugeot SC yet (Will be finding out soon brows.gif ) but my experience with Toyota is to try a couple first. Not all are good. Pick the one you're happiest with and stick with them. Be nice to the SA and they'll be nice to you. smile.gif

2.5K service is a general inspection for condition and topup. It's ok to leave your air filter. I guess it's ok to leave the filter even on regular service. However when you need to make an engine part warranty claim, or have a problem with your car and needs attention, then replace with original filter. Of course you can play it safe by replacing the original filter any time your car goes to SC!

French are damn stingy when it comes to warranty claims. Have had problems with Airbus Industry over a  minute item!
*
Lol! French are damn stingy over everything. Best to play it safe.

yes they are!!! terribly stingy and they stick to details. warranty claim miss one document, the whole claim is thrown out. and usually, it is dealers who submit incomplete documents or submit late (till there is no time to resubmit). here's a bit of expose. sometimes when a customer's warranty claim gets rejected by automobiles peugeot due to incomplete paperwork, the dealer will usually pin the blame on nasim to the customer. so, the customer usually comes off with a nasty aftertaste about nasim the franchise holder.

by the way, the japanese don't care if you service based only on mileage even though their t&c for warranty is same around the world with the europeans but for the french especially, you have to service EITHER by mileage OR by time. no 2 ways about it.
*
Thanks lowpro. I wasn't aware that we need to stick to the service interval of "whichever comes first" with the French. Having owned Japanese cars all my life, this was never a problem.

Who are you referring to as "dealer" ? The SC ?

nasim has their own service centres like ipoh, plentong, glenmarie, puchong, balakong and kuching. juru used to be nasim's own but it has been converted to citroen already. the rest of the service centres are dealers.
*
Ok. Understood. So if we want to be safe about warranty claims, we should just stick to those Nasim service centres then.

Ok. The spanar is there. But it doesnt tell you the date right??? Mileage is not a problem coz can always see. Is the date only....
*
Would be a real convenience if it had that. What I normally do is to set reminders on my phone which is synced to everywhere. biggrin.gif
Of course this is for all other stuff, like reminders to pay the bills, renew license, etc. Same principle can be used for this too.

usually there will be a sticker stating your last service on your windscreen. just see 6 months from that date.

the thing about AP's warranty is like this. even if you park your car and not move it for 6 months, you will STILL have to service it.
*
I personally feel servicing the car even when it's not used is important. My bro has a Waja that was left unused for months. When I finally took it out one day, there were so many creaking noises everywhere from the suspension and the engine was sluggish. One service and some greasing.....followed by a long drive fixed that.

Peugeot Malaysia should build a sms blasting system. Blast to all the owners a reminder on when the service is due. Hahahahah. That would be awesome.
*
That's a good idea. I get SMS and phone calls from Toyota whenever service is due.
