For tire protectant (eg: Meguiars Endurance Gel, etc.), will the tire crack if the product is applied frequently?
*
I have read from AMMO NYC and other sources that solvent base tyre dressing will dry the rubber and hence prompt tyre edge cracking. Thus this group of people recommends the use of water base tyre dressing product. The only drawback is its durability is shorter than solvent base tyre dressing.

Nevertheless, I also read from Autogeek.net, a post by Mike Philips where he responds to someone asking same question like you but specifically point it to the Meguiar's Endurance Tyre Gel (because this is a solvent base tyre dressing). Mike assures the reader that Meguiar's will never product something that harms our tyre.

But I also read from Cari.com detailing thread that someone has been using Meguiar's Endurance Tyre Gel and after year he notice his tyre cracks and puncture. He reasons that this is because of the tyre dressing he has been using and after this experience he stop using solvent base tyre dressing and change to water base tyre dressing. He claims since then he never observe the problem again. No crack.

I think few questions need to be addressed:

1) Is there exist solvent base tyre dressing that does not exhibit the drying effect? i.e. solvent base tyre dressing that does not crack the rubber? Is Meguiar's Endurance Gel this kind of special build solvent base tyre dressing?
2) Does tyre itself affects the effect of tyre dressing? Maybe cap ayam tyre will crack but Michelin tyre does not crack when used with solvent base tyre dressing?

Sorry but I do not have answers the above two questions.
Do I use Meguiar's Endurance Gel and other cap ayam tyre gel (like those Kit tyre foam spray where you can get with a bargain price during sale)? yes I do use. Do I observe any crack on my tyre? No so far after 1.5yrs of using the cap ayam foam spray (I am pretty sure it is solvent base because water base is more expensive). Am I worry my tyre will crack? I do but I do not find this worry is justified from my personal experience so I will wait till my Silverstone tyre explode first then I see who to blame.

But the only reason I am using Meguiar's tyre gel is because I have bunch of them which I got it during sale. I actually just want the Meguiar's shampoo but the discount is better if buy together with the gel so I get it too. LOL

Any sifu here tried before the Turtle Wax Bug & Tar Remover ??
Looking for budget tar & bug remover.

Welcome any suggestion to beginner like me  biggrin.gif
*
I have tried before this product for the purpose of removing tar spot. It removes bug that sticks on your car front bumper as well.
I have also tried Meguiar's tar and bug remover before.
Comparing these two, the Turtle's wax one is more preferable by me.
Reason? After you wipe away the product, the Turtle'x Wax one leaves a smooth surface. It is also easier to wipe. After the wipe, if you touch the surface with your finger, you can feel some degree of silky smooth.
The Meguiar's is more difficult to wipe, I am not saying it can't but it is more difficult, as in more friction. And the surface after the wipe is not as smooth as the Turtle's Wax.
They both price almost the same, so I prefer to go with Turtle's Wax Bug and Tar Remover compare to Meguiar's Bug and Tar Remover.

But now I do not use Turtle's Wax Bug & Tar Remover any more because I have switch to a cheaper alternative which is the OSREN Tar Spot Remover. But the Osren does smell like petroleum. Nevertheless the Meguiar's and Turtle's Wax bug and tar remover also contain petroleum distillate inside, just that they do not smell that way. I think in order to dissolve the tar, use of non-polar solvent chemical like petroleum distillate is unavoidable. And petroleum distillate being solvent (certain kind) to car paint also, it is best not to let the product stay too long on your paint surface.

One thing to reminds you, I remember when I just got my car, I sent it to do SierraGlow glass coating in Subang.
Then after that, in my car wash routine, I used Turtle's Wax Bug & Tar Remover to remove some tar spots. The Turtle's Wax did its job well. But in the next wash I notice that the place I spray the Turtle Wax no longer has the water beading effect compare to other area. I was quite puzzled about this but I do not know is this a sign that the Turtle Wax dissolve ability is too strong for the coating or the coating hydrophobic property is too unreasonable weak and easily compromised by something else. The water beading was never restored. But I do not mind because I am going to do Opti Guard soon LOL. I think nothing going to dissolve Opti Guard coating. So if your car has coating you might want to stay away from all kind of bug and tar remover and just use clay bar to remove it. Last resort only go to bug and tar remover, any brand.

BTW the Turtle Wax and Meguiar's Bug and Tar Remover is really not cheap. If you remove bug and tar on a weekly basic during your routine car wash activity (like I do), you very soon realize your pocket is empty. Which is why I go after a cheaper, bigger volume alternative. Osren serves me well so far. I recommend this product.

LOL welcome another uncle biggrin.gif
regarding the tyre age prematurely due to tyre's dressing, afaik it's the 'silicone' that do the harm. am personally using mothers' back-to-black tyre shine, but i do not know if it's safe LOL. hopefully sifu-sifu here can guide us to the light force.

Hi there, thanks for the greeting. I have been surfing here for many years but I am always a silence reader. Now CNY too free to surface a few replies. tongue.gif

Agree with your concern but I think no need over worry. People who sends to road side wash using unknown cap ayam tire dressing also do not complain any cracking I do not think people like us who use established brand product will get our ass kicked faster than them.

You can try Zippo fluid or diesel. I don't have/use a dedicated tar remover - I tend to use any solvent that are paint-safe. These solvent works extremely well in dissolving tar (better than most over-the-counter tar remover) and, as long as you don't let it dry on paint, they're very mild solvent and safe for cars' paint. If you want a dedicated one, I've tested Osren's and Meguiars and they're quite decent (though not so cost-effective).
*
Osren not cost effective to you too? hmm.gif

This kind of spray bottle..usually i buy in pasar malan bro...much more cheaper.. smile.gif

It depends on what kind of liquid you are putting into the sprayer bottle.
If you put bug and tar remover, which usually contains some kind of petroleum distillate solvent, over time your bottle plastic will be dissolved by the liquid, especially the rubber sealing. The nozzle will also start to choke because the tiny tube inside starts to deform. The petroleum distillate content actually soften the whole plastic at a very slow rate. Normally if we accidentally splash some petrol on any plastic surface and wipe it right away, it will not do any harm because it has insufficient time to do its chemical corrosion. But when you put it into a plastic container and let it stay for months (which is typically what we do as a detailer) then it has all the time it needs for its liquid to corrode the bottom and the wall of the container, while is gas to corrode the top of the container and the spray mechanism.

By the time you realize your bottle is malfunction most likely you already spray some product onto your car.

Hence you need to get something labelled with "chemical resistant". You can get it in Ace Hardware, RM30+ per one, volume about 1 litre.

Nevertheless, you might reason that with the cheap pasar malam sprayer, you simply change to a new one after it malfunction. So it is also depend on how you evaluate the value of the sprayer.
Pasar Malam sprayer will be a good sprayer for IPA solution though, since IPA has no special corrosive property after dilution. On full concentration (70%, 90% for instance), you need chemical resistant plastic sprayer again, which is why most hospital pharmacist get the big volume high concentration IPA in gallon filled in plastic container (easy for transportation), but later fill it up into glass container for convenience of usage and safety of storage.

Another thing you want to consider is, if you are filling your sprayer with flammable liquid, like IPA, bug and tar remover, you also need to consider the chance of the sprayer plastic get leak (due to corrosion) and starts a fire. Especially in our hot weather environment.

Oh got it...then how abt the Ultimate Quik Detailer? In wht situation i should use this item? Some ppl suggest to use it top up on the base wax as it to enhance the water repel ; some are after wash then use UQD..

I realise this QD is very high consume...yet UQD quite expansive compare with others Mag's liquid product
*
Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Detailer, as the name suggests, is just a quik detailer, which is a kind of mild cleaning agent for user to spray and wipe in order to clean up finger print, light dust, bird drops, etc. It is more suitable for maintenance use, i.e. after you park your car, the next morning you see a lot of dusts landed on it, or your kids finger print are all over the panel. Then you can wipe it using quick detailer.

Nevertheless, another good selling point about Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Detailer, is its superior water beading effect! Really boost up your car panel water repellent property. If you are the kind of guy who goes after crazy water beading effect, you can top up with the Meguiar's Ultimate Quick Detailer after the wax cure for about 1 night, just in case.

I tried it once and is very impressed by its water beading property. I am equally impressed by the price tag though. So I never use it again, I do not feel the tiny water bead worth every cent I am paying. LOL

Thanks for guidance ...  notworthy.gif

anyway beside than Meguairs's Ultimate Quik Detailer... is there any product to introduce where can dilute with water.. looking for somethin economic. cheers!
*
Like KrisMas has said, I too never came across or aware of any product that function like Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Detailer, but in large volume and can be diluted with water.
Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Detailer is a consumer range product, only sold in that size.
So yes I do agree with you it is not economical. If you have a weekend car then probably worth it but if your car is daily driver, I do not think worth the money. A good wax alone can provide equally amazing water beading effect.

The following product by Meguiar's is in large volume only:
user posted image
D155 Detailer Last Touch Spray Detailer, 1 Gallon
This one if used as clay lubricant can be diluted half water half product. For use as quik detailer purpose, straight out of the container, no dilution.

But it has no Hydrophobic Polymer Technology like the Ultimate Quik Detailer. So it will only clean up light dust, finger print, smudge, etc. But will not boost water beading effect. However if only intended to use as spray quik detailer then this is suitable.

The following has Hydrophobic Polymer Technology, so it should boost water beading as good as Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Detailer:

M135 Mirror Glaze® Synthetic Spray Detailer, 1 Gallon

If you want boost up your wax water beading, try spray wax instead. Spray wax available in large volume.

g88 mentioned this previously that as alternative to UQD, you can use Meguiars M135. It's the professional range series of the UQD that can be bought in a gallon.

user posted imageuser posted image

He also suggested alternatively you can get a gallon of ONR and dilute it as QD. The decision to use ONR / any other rinseless type of product like Meguiars D114 or M135 / UQD depends on how much dirt you want to clean. UQD is usually very light dust and dirt.
From my very limited experience, if the surface is not clean, you'll experience cloudy / streaking on the paint your're waxing. At least that happens to the waxes I use.
I read that the Last Touch was suppose to be the one to use but now with newer products, people skip this and got for M135. Perhaps due to it's hydrophobic qualities.
The professional / detailer version of Meguiars spray wax is the D156.
*
You are right, is D156. I was heading out for lunch in office so do not have time to finish my edit on the post. My bad.
I have no experience with the last touch neither, but if one want to use quik detailer only, in large volume, the Last Touch will serve the purpose. I am guessing the M135 is more expensive so some people might want to go after a cheaper alternative.

Sorry my last post was not done edit when you reply. Now it is done already.
Try Hypercoat company HQ, in Subang. You can walk in and buy like retail customer at weekdays.
If they do not have it, you can order and wait for it to arrive then collect.

Malaysia only has Hypercoat as official distributor, so we do not really have choice on supplier. Other online seller will be private seller and if you manage to find one, go ahead, should be good enough too. Price wise might even be cheaper than Hypercoat.

FWAH! there are just too many things to take in and digest laugh.gif back then I thought maintaining a car is just as simple as wash, wax and polish.

So to summarize, wax protects the paint job, and the "spray topper" protects the wax so that the wax does not wears off prematurely?

I also understand that the "spray topper" also provides water beading properties thus sharing almost the same characteristics as wax. I used water beading to determine if my car needs a proper waxing so, if i apply the "spray topper" weekly after my car wash then technically speaking, my car will have the water beading properties therefore i will never know if my car's wax has wear off?

Sorry to have asked so many questions :T__T:
*
The absence of water beading to naked eyes is not a necessary implication that the wax is no longer exist on the paint surface. It is however a sign that the wax has either getting thinner, deteriorated or contaminated by foreign substances (such as dirt) on its surface due to common wear over time.

Meguiar's recommends performing "Squeak Test" to test presence of wax on the paint surface.
Squeak Test

You do not necessary believe in Meguiar's method though.
Do a comparison feeling by yourself. Usually one will not wax the interior paint surface, like the paint surface around door. Touch this surface, rub it a bit, you will hear a squeak sound, indication of 100% clean surface, just like the sound in dish detergent commercial in tv, where the housewife move the finger from tip to tip on the clean dish and the recognizable "clean" sound produced. Same goes to paint surface. If it is 100% clean (no wax), you hear this sound as well easily.
If you do not hear this sound after you wash your car, chances are your car still has the wax on this particular area.

But it makes no harm to wax again. Every one here is overkill LOL.

Just want to add another wax/sealant topper to the mix, Osren Surface Conditioner.
A litre of product makes four litres as it is a concentrate.
A ready to use spray bottle version should be available too.

Regarding the spray bottles from Osren, I have been advised not to use acid based cleaners in it because it will kill the spray pump smile.gif

eh, sorry la. i didn't know Quik Wax is a spray topper =(

This is disputable. Meguiar's for instance, officially do not agree to state that Quik Wax = Quik Detailer.
However you can have your own interpretation from your personal observation and experience. You might even consider this Quik Wax, Quik Detailer just a business marketing hype, they essentially same product in a different bottle (no body knows right unless you worked in the company as chemist before).

While Ultimate Quik Detailer contains hydrophobic content thus making it feels like functioning like a spray wax (water beading), it does not replace the function of spray wax according to Meguiar's claim.

Meguiar's has other, non-water beading Quik Detailer also, selling cheaper. If you use this, you will never get water beading without a wax layer on your car beforehand.

If your first experience with quik detailer (any brand) is those that contains hydrophobic feature, then no doubt you will feel that quik detailer = quik wax.
If your first experience with quik detailer (any brand) is those that without hydrophobic feature, then, you will not equal both of them.

But again, you do not have to follow manufacturer theory. Because they are after all, business. See what you like, and stick with it, until you discover something else more appealing to you.

You might want to watch this too:

- Attendee need to bring what?
- Usually you guys hang out until what time?
- Are you all going to detail a car right in front of the restaurant like a open road show event?
