*Risk* of corruption. Not confirmed, but chances are higher as most custom recoveries do not come with the "fix" that is supposed to *mitigate* the eMMC corruption issue.
That said, my S3 did die of eMMC corruption in less then even a year lol. And it was running a *fixed* kernel the whole time, and I even updated to a *fixed* recovery a few months before it died.
Oh I see, btw I'm not going to update my dad's phone with any custom rom anytime soon. so it MIGHT die slowly
But I updated my sister's phone with Cyanogen Mod 11!! Hope it won't kill it, using TWRP btw, dk whether got the fix or not.

errr... i thought volume up + home + power = recovery, which can be the stock recovery.
as for the discussion on SDS, i shared this earlier before... its a hardware issue and the right thing to do is to actually replace the faulty part. if that means the board, that should be done. it's no different than a car... if a car manufacturer sells a model with a part that can potentially break and case an accident, what they do is recall and fix/ replace the part. that's why we hear of mass recalls by toyota, etc...
but sadly... i guess for phones, its viewed as something that we change every 1-2 years (at least in USA or so where they get phones with new plans) and its not something that can cause death (like car accident), so, Samsung has preferred not to do the 'right' thing.
Anonymous34 puts is quite well when equating it to disease. sometimes we have these bad cells... whether they go rogue and start to become cancer or not, that's another thing. by having an insane chip, that means you do have 'bad cells'... just a matter of luck and time.
Yep, some cancer cells spread slowly. Some very fast until you cannot even detect it until it has developed into an advanced stage.
