QUOTE(copperwire93 @ Jan 25 2014, 06:15 PM) During my travel, only stick to 35mm. Can't do much landscape with it, now I miss my sold Sigma 18-200mm. Last week i just went to Taipei for my honey moon. I can feel your pain. Just stick to 35mm and miss quite alot of landscape, including the complete building of 101 tower.![]() On the boat by NurAzam, on Flickr Anyway, i just back yesterday, feel much more pain when i load my RAW into the PC. Some of the shots that i feel really good end up nothing when view in PC. The main problem is some shots that with wide open aperture (1.8), the focus point is wrong. For whole shot i can't find where is the focus area, whole frame is not sharp, although the shutter is more than 1/250 for static object, and i'm sure my hand is steady enough, 2 out of 2 same shots also same problem. Really don know what's the problem, whether D3200 or lens focus is not accurate or, my own fault. Anyway the shots is at day 1 of the trip. Just view 100+ out of 1000++ RAW only, tonight will see the shots after day 1. |

Hi, does anyone of you using rangefinder to aid manual focus?
Is the rangefinder accurate? I found that my D3200 wrong/difficult focus at night scene with weak amber lamp. I found quite alot of my shots from Taiwan night street unusable due to very soft image even the cam 'told' me it already focused. So i wonder whether can 'squeeze out' some focus accuracy by using rangefinder? |

QUOTE(PF T.J. @ Feb 6 2014, 04:29 PM) Usually I select a manual AF point for focusing, seemed good enough although AF hunting will occur in very dark places. Shouldn't be a problem if you have AF assist illuminator on, or you could use a phone torchlight to light up the subject for easier focusing, followed by focus-lock, then only snap Ya, i using manual AF point too.Actually 1'm thinking this way too, seems legit. built in AF assist illu not strong enough for far subject, maybe modify the ori bulb to high power LED will do. Anyone here try pinhole photography? Just learn this from Internet, just poke a hole on the body cap and it will become a wide angle 'lens'...

QUOTE(makaroni @ Feb 17 2014, 02:35 PM) already update to the newest firmware..any solution? its difficult to me to know the accurate wb in camera because what appear in camera is different when view in computer.. From what i read, Nikon LCD is 'greenish', or in other words, cooler WB. I think this is well know 'design' by Nikon. My D3200 LCD also same, i dun think anything can fix it as the LCD dun have calibration tool or colour adjustment at all. Anyway, the problem is how accurate ur PC monitor was? Maybe ur monitor is too warm? |

QUOTE(makaroni @ Feb 17 2014, 02:44 PM) i dont think its my monitor problem..im also have D7000 where its wb is very accurate with my monitor..same setting with both body..i can say D7000 lcd screen more accurate than D800..compare side by side i can clearly saw the different.. I will not say the monitor is accurate unless it has been calibrated. Most PC monitor out of factory is barely calibrated, especially the cheaper TN panel, unless u bought those high end monitor that come with calibration cert, or u go to buy the calibration tool for monitor calibration. It is not strange that both ur D7000 and D800 WB is different becos the theory just same as those PC monitor by same manufacturer, each model will have different colour and white balance, so which one is 'accurate'? I think we can hardly get the answer by our own except the calibrator, the ultimate reference. This post has been edited by coolkwc: Feb 17 2014, 02:55 PM |

QUOTE(makaroni @ Feb 17 2014, 03:03 PM) yeah i agree with u but its just very different with what im always got with my D7000..i think i need to learn how to handle D800 wb.. I think if WB is important to you, just shoot in RAW and post process later in PC. It is difficult to estimate the outcome when the camera LCD is not accurate in the 1st place. |

QUOTE(PF T.J. @ Feb 22 2014, 11:52 PM) Thanks bro. f2.8, 8.5sec in bulb mode, flash with rear curtain sync... Actually i want the pendulum stay at the center when i close the shutter, but is damn difficult as i just use smartphone as remote (delay in touch process), so i give up and settle with this 'slightly' slanting pendulum, anyway this is 37th out of 42 total tries. |

QUOTE(shogun_125 @ Feb 28 2014, 10:39 AM) soft mean its easily lock the focus? what is your recommended, use viewfinder or live view for easy focus? Soft mean my image look soft, maybe the focus is not 100% accurate. At night and low light, using viewfinder is hard to judge the focus, better use live view, furthermore live view using contrast focus detection, more accurate than viewfinder if the scene lighting is poor. If i using tripod, i will switch to live view, than select manual focus, and magnify to see the object really in focus or not by slightly adjust the focus ring. Just my 2 cents gained from Taiwan trip last month, still learning how to improve my night shot now. This post has been edited by coolkwc: Feb 28 2014, 10:59 AM |
