Doesn't matter I guess, I'm getting the GTX770 and an upgrade isn't warranted at the price Dell will quote for the upgrade. Better to upgrade to a GTX880 once that's out. By that time though, I'll be in the market for a new machine. Alienware 18 would be the best choice, but warranty issues because they don't sell it in the country. I spoke to Dell and they say that they don't and won't help with warranty if anything goes wrong. I was told that Dell US will bypass those sales people and get someone there to fix the machine anyway but no confirmation. I'll try to contact them and see soon. Local Dell also said they don't sell it in Singapore. Singapore does, but again they don't let you configure it as you want. Dell is always trying to shove some configuration down your throat, not something I like. So we'll see, might be turning to other brands that allow you to configure every piece of hardware you want. |

QUOTE(horns @ Dec 16 2013, 06:41 PM) that sucks. I just don't understand why they force configurations down our throats. I mean, it's not that the configuration is dependent on the other options. You don't need the highest processor to run the GTX780. You can have a pretty solid system even on the 4700. Anyway, no use going on and on about it. Dell does allow you to custom the machine accordingly I believe, but it's a lot more expensive and you have to do it directly with the sales person who are usually clueless about anything except their support manuals. Sager might be worth going back to, or maybe try Illegear.on the other hand, i think s'pore is fine because i have friends there. worst comes to worst i just fly there during weekends. if it's even possible, it's much better that they send me parts so that i can do it myself. yeah these days customizations are really limited for aw. They've been unhelpful no matter what I ask them recently, they don't give me options, they just want me to say yes and move on. This post has been edited by refnulf: Dec 16 2013, 10:53 PM |

I'm guessing the sales people could open their mouths to say that the parts are not available. Instead of their usual "NO" without any further explanation. |

Received sms, the replacement Aw17 is being delivered tomorrow. I'll have it for Christmas. Unfortunately I'm away for the holidays so will have to ask them to keep it till after the New Year. Just as well, lots of work once I get it. Have to switch the drive, reinstall the operating system, transfer the data from the second drive to the new second drive. Sigh. This machine better not be problematic. |

QUOTE(horns @ Dec 23 2013, 08:54 PM) Just do whatever you feel feasible for now and near future. It's not that we must put everything highend to live Yeah, busy with the PS4 right now anyway.I hope gpu computing is implemented in the apps i use. That way i can take advantage of the processing power also. |

Yeah, spending so much on GTX770 to GTX780 isn't going to be much of a difference so I'm going to save my money. Wait for the GTX880 or something. When is that out? |

QUOTE(raymondtong94 @ Dec 25 2013, 01:03 AM) I replied to the Dell survey with some comments about how unsatisfied I was with the replacement GPU. All the customers in the US who get replacements for their 7970M are receiving the GTX 780M card. So I'm not sure why I only received the GTX 770M card. I feel it's a down grade of sorts because the GTX 780M even isn't doing that great at the moment.I'll replace the machine and upgrade to a GTX880 + or whatever that's available next year sometime. Perhaps get a 18 instead of the 17. |

Looks and feels so different
[attachmentid=3798561] [attachmentid=3798562] Need to transfer all the stuff over tonight, also the SSD. The new laptop is way too slow compared to my old one Still deciding if I should stick with Windows 8.1 or go back to Windows 7 Ultimate. This post has been edited by refnulf: Jan 3 2014, 02:52 PM |

Forced to use it because my father's laptop is running it, always have to do something for him. So I hate the OS. I'll go back to Windows 7 Ultimate till I'm forced to use Windows 8.1 Maybe when I upgrade the computer next year or so. |

QUOTE(kaoru @ Jan 6 2014, 11:16 AM) i like the fact that there is a heart sticker at the webcam very safe. Yes, I always cover the webcam area with a sticker just in case. No telling who might be watching. Here is my update , a few weeks back my graphics card was no longer detected in bios . however alienware hardware diagnostics says that all my hardware is working fine. Dell came last week and changed my graphics card and its now working fine. Using 660m only so yes they replaced it with 660m and not 760m Thinking of extending the warranty now , so scared. Changed mobo few times d , first was speaker no sound , second and third due to adapter plugged in not charging/ If take adapter out and plugged back in wont detect must start from full shutdown only adapter will detect. I'd suggest extended warranty if you find yourself unlucky with the machine, I have had a ton of problems too. Mostly GPU, but also with the LCD and the touchpad. These computers will last years, so good if you can have extended warranty. |

Having a problem with the new machine, haven't really been using it but when I log into the system there's a problem earlier. I try to launch any program and a black screen appears with the battery icon blinking at the top left hand corner.
Then a few seconds after that it logs out and goes to the login page (with the time and date/battery/wifi icon) Any idea what that is? I can't launch a single thing, can't get to desktop either. Just the window with all the program panes. Can't get to control panel either. It just goes blank and logs me out. This post has been edited by refnulf: Jan 6 2014, 12:19 PM |
