Hello, is there any way to create a recovery partition in a fresh OS, as per the partition(s) in the hard disk that came with the laptop? I didn't create anything with AlienRespawn but the old (failing) hard disk is still with me.
Thanks!
*
Well, if u wanna retain the state of ur HDD, u can always clone it to a new one.

hi there
considering to buy alienware or msi for my gaming laptop
i got a great offer for alienware m14x
however im not sure whether  the m14x is ok enough coz the screen is quite... not that big
u know what i mean
*
Most important question, budget?

It's not about the screen size. The most important thing is the GPU. If u have a big screen with big resolution but ur GPU cannot handle it, it will be a waste also wut.

Kudos to you. I can't tolerate N anymore you are still on G hahaha. Is the router beside your laptop or something? tongue.gif
*
Well, even if my router is beside my laptop, I don't think it can go any faster also. At least my router really is value for money after using it for so long. For RM150, been using it since college times. laugh.gif

QUOTE(horns @ Feb 28 2014, 02:35 PM)
change it when you really really need it smile.gif to me i still prefer wired.
*
Well, most of the time I'm using wired but even on wire, it's not on gigabit Ethernet but I have an AC router coming soon. Will be changing it to that. biggrin.gif

Liuteva Most likely it is the screen at fault. This line in ur post reveals the answer:

If I lower the brightness, this shadow not really obvious.

Call Dell regarding this issue. Most likely u'll get a screen replacement.

UEFI vs bios boot. Definitely UEFI takes the cake. It's significantly faster, IMO. Maybe difference is minimal. But u can feel it definitely.

As for RAID-0 setup, the only benefit of RAID-0 is in gaming when u r playing open world games. Compared to single drive, the transition loading between sections is seamless. The other obvious benefit in RAID-0 is reduction of loading times for apps but this one is hard to see.

As for Windows booting time, u can't do much by changing ur setup. It will definitely be faster but comparing side by side between Windows 8 and 7, Windows 8 will always prevail bcos of how the way that Windows 8 handles the operations within the inside. In other words, better architecture.

If zat_90s really wanted to reduce the loading times on Windows 7, I recommend RAID-0 4 SSDs. Yet again, comes down to cost and also max bandwidth that ur motherboard supports.

My only final conclusion is if u really wanted that superior boot time, change to Windows 8 instead of sticking to Windows 7. That would be the cheapest alternative that u can find at this moment.

QUOTE(mansooriqbal @ Apr 17 2014, 12:01 AM)
But does OC really helps in gaming? I mean CPU OC. GPU i understand. Until now I don't have the balls to OC as no more warranty for my R4 so I use it carefully smile.gif
*
QUOTE(horns @ Apr 17 2014, 12:12 AM)
honestly, not really significant for gaming i guess (oc'ing gpu is better in this case)
*
OCing both CPU and GPU does help in gaming. Gaming is not about how many cores u have. Most games are not optimized for multi core CPU anyways. It's about the speed. The higher the speed, the better it is. That's why many ppl invest in cooling for desktops for this purpose. Both CPU and GPU must be able to keep up with each other. If not, u'll get stuttering. Most ppl don't know that this is another determining factor for stuttering. Most of the time is the multi GPU setup but sometimes if the processor is too slow, this will happen also.

Nowadays we are more focused on OCing the CPU more rather than the GPU cos no point in OCing the GPU a lot cos GPU nowadays have overtaken the CPU. So, the CPU is the only one which needs to play catchup.

i knew you will give a clearer picture about this lol!

yeah deep down i believe it helps. however if you do it with laptops, there are side effects like cpu speed throttling, which is counter productive.
*
HAHAHAHA!!! Just reminding u only. tongue.gif

I know u also know one. Actually OCing on a laptop is fine cos it's also a PC mah.

But then, side effects as u mentioned also will happen on desktop. But normally, I don't OC on a laptop due to the insufficient cooling but as long as u OC within ur laptop's limit, it is still fine. biggrin.gif

faisal_smks03 The partitions are like this is bcos ur HDD is using GPT and it cannot be erased just from formatting the drive. It needs to be cleared using CMD instead.

If u r using AlienRespawn, then I can say nope. U cannot create an image backup using a smaller drive. The only way is to clone ur drive into another drive.

Thank you for your response.

Oh, that means both the 490mb & the 450mb can be removed by cmd commands?
Can u teach me (or provide links) how to do it?
Is it possible to move the 9.95gb recovery partition in before the drive C: (without breaking the recovery function)?
*
Just google how to remove GPT partitions.

As for moving ur current data, I did mention about cloning ur drive right?

Currently, AW17 cannot be ordered thru Dell website anymore. I think they are stocking up the new components.

QUOTE(Fortunatus @ May 21 2014, 11:11 AM)
ok ...i'm not obsessed with killer thing....just wanna the wireless to work because there is no cable here. So what are my options? Buy the part and install myself? If yes, where can i get it? And let's say I cant install myself, will a Dell personnel able to help me?
*
Just go to LYP and buy the part separately. Self installation for a wireless NIC card isn't that hard. They come with instructions anyways. It's just plug and play. If u don't like internal ones, u can opt for USB ones.

The pro for using a USB one is u can shift around the receiver to get the best signal, but the con is u get to stare at ur receiver.

The pro for using an internal one is u don't get to look at ur receiver and it's well integrated, but the con is u can't move ur receiver around to get the best signal cos ur desktop is rooted at the place that u decided to put.

Final verdict, it's ur call.

P/S: Dell personnel won't help u to install 3rd party stuff one unless u order directly from Dell but then, it's super straight forward. Plug and play.

you don't get to see the receiver if you use the usb port at the back of the pc biggrin.gif
*
Oh yeah, now I remember. Nowadays USB receivers don't give u a standing dock or any extension cords unlike the old days.

But then good luck in looking for a good signal with all the stuff that's blocking the signal. tongue.gif

Getting an AW18 from XoticPC with 1 Year Alienware Basic Service Plan Warranty (Includes: In-Home Service After Remote Diagnosis) (SKU - WTY014) for my brother. The one with 880M SLI.

Does anyone know if the warranty works in Malaysia? Or information that can help in any way.
*
No, it doesn't work in Malaysia. Only models that are officially listed on Dell Malaysia's site. U have to send it back to XoticPC with additional shipping costs.
