Hi all, im just wondering is there any alienwarex51 owners who bought the low end model(gtx 745). How does it run bf4/bf3.
*
I have the mid-range model, the one with Core i5-4460 & Radeon R9 270

it runs BF3 pretty smoothly, with an average of 40-50fps on max settings. haven't tested BF4 though biggrin.gif

if you're planning on getting an X51, I'd suggest at least get the mid range model. the low end model comes with a 240W PSU, which will limit the upgradeability especially the graphics card. both mid-range and high-end come with 330W PSU

the 330W PSU does available to be purchased separately, but it won't be cheap sweat.gif

y wan the x51. hv to top up so many things. wait the new mother ship model n dell will do sales de. tat y I said dell only hv new offer until oct....
*
when it comes to SFF PCs some factors will be compromised; mainly on upgrade ability due to the compact form factor

the X51 have an external PSU in the form of a power brick like a laptop, which limits the upgrade option unlike full fledged desktop PC which you can simply swap the internal PSU when upgrading to a more power-hungry hardware.

I would have opted for a SFF system that has better option on upgrades like the Silverstone Raven RVZ01 case but seeing how hard it is to get a slim SFF case that can fit a full-size graphics card, the X51 seems like the only choice that I have for the moment. upgrades is pretty limited but the possibility is still there smile.gif

So Dell didn't have any 51s for sale the past few years?
*
if not mistaken I've read somewhere that the Area-51 was being withdrawn from the Alienware desktop lineup in these recent years, so the new triangular case design is being considered as a comeback for the model.

Ahhh, then it makes sense. I thought they didn't bring in area 51s at all.
*
Area-51 has always been their flagship model and the highest end, even back in the days they brought in top-of-the line stuffs like 1000W PSU (sounds like a very big deal somewhere in 2005-2006), full liquid cooling system for the ALX series and even featured Intel Xeon CPUs and quad SLi setups.

yeah it's been kept quiet for some years.
i think it's time for area-51 to make a comeback because of recent fierce competitions from brands like originpc, maingear, etc.

.. and we'll see if the new one can stay competitive in terms of specs.
*
true dat. previously Alienware is all the oohs and the aahs when it comes to high performance gaming PCs, but with all these challengers coming nowadays the new Area-51 should put up to the challenge sweat.gif

honestly I'm not really fond of the upcoming Area-51 case design (would have opted the previous ALX one with the adjustable vents on top of the case) but the idea of making the I/O ports angular with the intention of getting all the cables away from the wall is pretty neat, not to mention that the design would help to improve cooling as well thumbup.gif

Before that, Alienware is competing with Voodoo PC.
*
ah. almost forgot about the Voodoo PC tongue.gif

in the US there are several more competitors like CyberPower Inc, Falcon Northwest etc. Even Dell back in those days wanna compete with their XPS desktops laugh.gif

speaking of which, a friend of mine once informed me of a similar offer for a X51 desktop. the top of the range with Core i7 & GeForce GTX760Ti for RM2,999 only (if I recall correctly), only a couple of days after I placed my order my current X51 cry.gif
