Yeah ive been in contact with Oscar on fb. His got like 3 choices for me for my budget either the AW17 New, his Used Aw17 with 120hz moniter and the AW18.

Used is just about 1k cheaper than new so. AW18 he did mention that the moniter on there wont be able to support more than 60fps so its kinda like potential of sli is wasted? I am not sure what the difference is cost personally I cant tell the difference in a normal moniter and 120hz moniter.
*
used is 1k cheaper but it comes with others upgrade as well. happy.gif
and of course I give u 1 year full warranty as well happy.gif

QUOTE(raymondtong94 @ Apr 27 2014, 07:05 AM)
no, the SLI potential is not wasted. its true that AW18 lineup's monitor has a max refresh rate of 60Hz (or 60fps) only but the refresh rate determines the smoothness when moving in games, its not like it will limit your GPU processing power. however, the 120Hz monitor on the AW17 is able to run in 3D mode, as it need to produce two images so it can virtualize the 3D effects into the 3D spectacles.

the difference between 60Hz and 120Hz is the smoothness and fluidity but its very hard to be identified with naked eye. i dont know how the guy called Linus (LinusTechTips is his channel on Youtube) able to identified the difference between 60Hz and 120Hz unless he cheats. you can watch the video at here

do note, you need a strong GPU to take advantage of 120Hz.
*
well, maybe u had to experience the 120hz. hoho. as naked eye we can see the differences. feel free visit me, I show u happy.gif
I have ordinary 60fps AW17 and 120Hz AW17

Ahh ok. Is there any way to prevent the lcd failure?
*
8 beeps is rare to be happens, mostly happends on 3D model or 120hz LCD.

8 beeps isnt the major issue on M17xR4, as it doesnt have major issue.

Technology stuff mostly depends on your luck whether u are 'lucky' enough to get the problem unit.

1000 unit i might have 2 to 3 % problem, meaning 30 out of 1000 will be having factory default failure

wow.. they have this issue with 780m?

do not sweat about this. you have a full year warranty. just extend it if you're feeling uncomfortable.
*
u ada AW18 also ma, 780m on AW18 is nothing, temperature low all the time. 3 copper pipe vs 2 copper pipe. hehe

lol! i know smile.gif the temperature of 780m's are not high actually, even after long hours of gaming. (from what i have observed, gpu temperatures in 17" and 18" are never high tbh. aw actually has a good cooling system)

also, where we live is much hotter compared to those reported cases. if 780m really is a problem, it surely will trigger more cases here, and this thread has been filled with complaints already. (if that happened, maybe we can be like that guy, get replacement of aw18 4910mq with 880m sli lol!)

probably won't happen. dell malaysia vry salty 1

*

hey guys, did anyone faced this kind of problems in your alienware m14x ?

For example when I would launch watchdogs, SC2, or war thunder, I would have about 60 fps while playing at medium but suddenly, i booted up my laptop yesterday, the FPS would drop drastically to about 30~40 fps. and sometimes 20 fps or below  rclxub.gif
I also noticed that whenever I would have high fps the fan on my M14x would spin fast and produce a noticeable loud sound (like the fan operating on a desktop)  and now, the fan just spinning like its walking in the park! and did not even produce a noticeable loud sound....  hmm.gif

Also prior to this post I have also tried several methods such as adjusting the settings on Nvidia.( Adjusting the 3D setting on Nvidia to suit the best performance), adjusting the battery to high performance, but nothing change.....

i need help now... anyone with this experience can help me?  icon_question.gif  icon_question.gif  icon_question.gif

just to add on, my m14x temp while gaming would normally shift between 40~75 MAX and now it only shift between 40~61 or 59 MAX

my m14x spec,
GeForce GT 650M
i7-3630QM
8gb
driver ver. 337.88

probably overheating issue, so the system throttle down

if it yes, than do you know how to switch it back?
*
if that's the case, right click on desktop, go to the nvidia control panel, click on manage 3d, then global there change to high performance nvidia card rather than auto

i suspect the AC adeptor might be the culprit?  hmm.gif faulty maby? but it still supply power just fine? hmmm....
*
this might due to power adaptor not enough power d

erm, when u turn on your laptop, keep pressing F2 into bios, then see the 1st page and 2nd page

if the adaptor power showing 150w then u are save, it might be other stuff, if it shows UNKNOWN. then ur adaptor GG

guys, i'm on alienware 14 and my wifi connection keeps dropping intermittenly...mostly on a 30 mins routine.

i tried updating my driver via dell's support page..to which my wifi card is killer type..

and it still is happening.....

any idea what i should do? my other devices dont get their connection drop that often.. only my alienware.

also, it doesnt connect back after it drops..which is extremely annoying.. even though i ticked the box connect automatically.
*
well, try to un install the driver from the dell, let the window let it install itself, I think this would helps

Hi to all d sifus here...
I am using d latest alienware 14 now...
but d screen is a bit too small for me...
Plan to get a 17" maybe...
I like d dell screen for d colour it produce...

And now i am aiming the msi GS70...
As it is very like weight,d screen meets my prefered sized...
Others specs r more or less around with alienware 14...
1 thing i am concern is d msi screen for it's colour...
Izit on par or better compare to dell screen?
Would prefer to skip alienware 17 as d weight of 14 is killing me already...
Hopefully anione can giv some guidance den...

U might face the issue of overheating and throttle. Be careful.
Thin laptop will never be my choice of laptop unless u are not gamers

need to know aw 13 battery is it can detachable ?

horns

really ?
for me feel weird the desktop
still prefer my alienware area 51 alx XD
*
Battery isn't detachable

Personally prefer build in battery rather than detachable battery
Reason is less issue will occur
