QUOTE(Superman7 @ Jan 22 2014, 10:42 AM) have no problem so far with both on Win 8.1 but I haven't been using 8.1 for a long time. Less than a week for sure there were updates released at dell support site, including the gpu drivers.By the way, would there be a new driver updates for the GPU since it's Win 8.1 ? QUOTE(phantom_zero @ Jan 22 2014, 02:26 PM) hello guys, i need an opinion about the warranty, my alienware warranty will expire on 24/1 this friday, do i need to extend the warranty now? i m planning to sell this laptop after my degree finish on late july and buy the new y50, so issit worth to extend my warranty? my alienware spec is like on my signiture, what is the fair price i can potentially get? thanks guys you can choose to not extend it if you're fine to sell it at a reasonably lower price, and if the machine is in good shape. i suggest you look at garage sales section for reference. (actually, having warranty might or might not be useful in boosting price also.) |

QUOTE(Superman7 @ Jan 22 2014, 10:18 PM) it depends. if you let dell to list the drivers based on service tag, it should list all the drivers that you need. to me i will install anything recommended or urgent. since i have disabled igpu, i don't need intel graphic driver; instead i grab the latest gpu driver from nvidia. |

QUOTE(Superman7 @ Jan 24 2014, 12:06 AM) uh? where do you get that?QUOTE(Aura @ Jan 24 2014, 12:59 AM) Ic ic.... Well, I'm just waiting for that moment when they release Windows 8.1 drivers then I'll upgrade to Windows 8.1. I think now it's the time to do so. sweet Finished updating to Windows 8.1. No unexpected events fortunately. Everything is smooth. Now to try out some games. QUOTE(Superman7 @ Jan 24 2014, 08:25 AM) Somehow after updates, the same items still reappears in the Dell website. I guess the detection doesn't really work haha! i think it should be that way. what if you have all the latest drivers but decide to keep a copy offline? hiding them will receive many complaints |

for bf4 settings use this (the below settings is for 670m; with it 680m is giving 90fps on large maps):
QUOTE Resolution: 1920x1080 source: ROG forum postGraphics Quality: Custom Texture Quality: Ultra Texture Filtering: High Lighting Quality: Medium Effects Quality: Medium Post Process Quality: Low Mesh Quality: High Terrain Quality: Medium Terrain Decoration Quality: Low Antialiasing Defered: Off Antialisiang Post: Off Ambient Occlusion: SSAO also put your FoV to 90 which is optimal for 1920x1080. it will make your game a tad more pleasurable. |

QUOTE(refnulf @ Jan 25 2014, 08:56 PM) Windows 8 is to much trouble. Anyone here know how to install Windows 7 under EFI? Installs without a problem for legacy. Dell doesn't provide a driver for Windows 7 for the Broadcom wireless. What the hell? Let me try the Dell US drivers. QUOTE(Aura @ Jan 26 2014, 12:30 AM) no Aura, we can install w7 in uefi mode, but we need to make some changes in the installation media. please check the step 11, http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/15458...te-windows.htmlbasically it just mean, format the usb with fat32; extract all the contents from the w7 iso to the usb; then create a boot folder and put the windows uefi firmware (bootmgfw.efi) from w7 iso into it. (use 7-zip 9.25 or up for the extraction process) edit: to qualify for installation with uefi mode, you need 3 things: 1. in bios turn off secureboot, and enable legacy mode; 2. the disk is of gpt type; 3. have an install media (usb prepared as above). during POST, spam f12 key and choose uefi with usb storage media. (there must be an option of usb storage but labelled with uefi). This post has been edited by horns: Jan 26 2014, 09:51 AM |

QUOTE(refnulf @ Jan 26 2014, 12:16 PM) First time, it said boot issue after the first restart. hm.. it's still running in legacy mode in bios, because secureboot is meant for w8.x only. (there is no w7 key embedded in the bios)Second time, screen goes black when it tries to boot. Finally I just legacy installed it. I'll try again later once I have more information on this. I'm guessing installing EFI with Windows 8 is a breeze? however, when you check in msinfo32, the bios mode will be uefi if you install the w7 in uefi mode. |

QUOTE(refnulf @ Jan 26 2014, 01:01 PM) Doesn't say UEFI in msinfo32. I switched it to legacy in order to be able to detect the DVD, etc initially. Tried a few sets of instructions from google plus your link but still having trouble getting Windows 7 installed on UEFI. Secure boot won't work for Windows 7. I don't want Windows 8 until I have no choice in the matter, so I'll probably only go with the new OS next machine upgrade (in a year or two). yeah.. in order to boot from other than the hdd, you will need to enable legacy. when i have some new disks i will test to see if i can get it worked, too. Anyway, don't have a second machine to hold me off while I try so I just installed Windows 7 like normal on legacy. I'll go back once I have some time. I had to put the stock hard drives back in and the stock ram and the Dell delivery fellas are coming tomorrow to pick the box up. Lucky I didn't get rid of the stock items. Because I had to give up the M17xR4, I have 2x8GB (2x) of ram for sale, it'll work on the older generation of the alienware machines that don't have a lower voltage requirement. CMSX16GX3M2A1600C10, 2x8GB DDR3, 1.5V, 1600Mhz, 10-10-10-27. What a waste, let me know if anyone is interested? Sells new for RM519++ but it'll be significantly cheaper since it's used and has a lifetime warranty. what a waste for those ram's :/ well.. if you want, i can sapu. |

I don't wanna do parallel import cos of warranty sake. all gone crazy already :/ for the warranty part, i think the best option for now is the illegear route.HAHAHA!!! QUOTE(refnulf @ Jan 27 2014, 03:45 PM) Aiks, how you know I'm crazy? lol! sooner or later, you're definitely one of the owners of this mammoth laptop! Yeah, if it was officially I wouldn't hesitate getting one. What a shame! QUOTE(refnulf @ Jan 27 2014, 03:50 PM) Best thing to do is to confirm with US I think, since the warranty originates from there. If we're talking illegear. Have to see if can extend to 2-3 years if not it's really worthless. it depends on where you get your unit. s'pore is also fine.Singapore I'm guessing can get a complete cover type warranty. |
