thermal compound like Coollaboratory Liquid Ultra between the shim and heatsink will good enough.
I don't think the tapes will do the heat conduction job as good as thermal compound.

The reason that we add cooper shim is because we have various of GPU core height and xbracket height.

If you found there are gaps between the GPU core and the heatsink, two way to go.

1) Shorten the xbracket screw thread
2) Add a cooper shim between to filled up the gap

I read a lot of review told that add cooper shim is a bad idea. Base on what I've tested, it was not much difference compare with the mod without cooper shim (shorten xbracket screw thread). Provided you need to use a good thermal compound. The test I've done is I used IC Diamond.

Yes, 180w facing some problem that can't deliver full power to the graphics card. GTX 970m is 100watt graphics card. It need 240w to deliver full power.

But like I said, if and only if you feel not ok. Coz the difference might neglectable for you.

But if you insist want to change it to 240w adapter. I can say is good to go. No problem for you. But you don't end up have the feeling that "meh~ no difference at all~" and feel wasted money for the changes.

It only harm when you put lower power adaper. Like if you put a 90w power adapter, your system might unstable, your adapter might get very hot.
Coz your system try to draw more power from the adapter.

Image your system have a pipe, and adapter is a tangki. If your pipe is small, you give big tangki no problem. if your pipe is big, you give small tangki will have big problem

If still under warranty, their NBD (next business day) service will make your eye drop how fast and effective is their job.
But sometimes is depends on luck are they solve your problem or not.

Why you need a replacement set?
From what I heard they only will give you a replacement set if they can't fix your issue for 3 or more times.
Overheat issue is a easy fix tho... So, I don't think you can get a replacement set.

I deal with Dell many time. I know they only provide very small amount of thermal compound to technician when they come to service.
The will only change thermal compound if they change the heatsink or GPU. The thermal compound is totally low grade one...
