QUOTE(horns @ Feb 16 2015, 11:38 AM) yes i am looking for copper shims and heat conducting tapes to make them stick. i am not sure if the effects are good but i am gonna try it out hahaha thermal compound like Coollaboratory Liquid Ultra between the shim and heatsink will good enough.if this worked well i will swap my cpu later. I don't think the tapes will do the heat conduction job as good as thermal compound. |

![]() Here you go. The reason that we add cooper shim is because we have various of GPU core height and xbracket height. If you found there are gaps between the GPU core and the heatsink, two way to go. 1) Shorten the xbracket screw thread 2) Add a cooper shim between to filled up the gap I read a lot of review told that add cooper shim is a bad idea. Base on what I've tested, it was not much difference compare with the mod without cooper shim (shorten xbracket screw thread). Provided you need to use a good thermal compound. The test I've done is I used IC Diamond. |

QUOTE(horns @ Feb 16 2015, 01:21 PM) well from my experience for some reasons ic.diamond didn't work well. clu and gc-extreme are far better. i am talking about at much as 10c drop. Your GPU too cold la. seldom reach 80c is very good already. TmI never tried the small heatsink mod before. maybe will try to do one and see. Hahaoh i am looking at different heatsink mods. [attachmentid=4343919] i have no issues with this one. in my case, there is no need for copper shim. with stock configurations running heavy game sessions, the temperatures are good for cpu and gpu. for gpu especially, it's around high sides of 75c but seldom reach 80c. |

QUOTE(ZainRain @ Feb 17 2015, 10:42 AM) I am using GTX970, so should I use the 240w adapter? I just talk to the chat in the dell website, he said that 240w adapter will harm the hardware inside the laptop Maybe we make it this way. You said "you heard not ok", but do you feel not ok?First thing first, if you feel everything is ok. Then 180w is good enough for you. If you feel not ok, you need to tell us how and what is the "not ok". Yes, 180w facing some problem that can't deliver full power to the graphics card. GTX 970m is 100watt graphics card. It need 240w to deliver full power. But like I said, if and only if you feel not ok. Coz the difference might neglectable for you. But if you insist want to change it to 240w adapter. I can say is good to go. No problem for you. But you don't end up have the feeling that "meh~ no difference at all~" and feel wasted money for the changes. |

QUOTE(ZainRain @ Feb 17 2015, 11:15 AM) I see, as long as it will not harm the hardware inside then it would be OK for me. So im gonna buy with the 240w adapter if they can give me that. Thanks for the clarification It will never harm bro. No need to be afraid of. Even you put a 1000w adapter also won't harmIt only harm when you put lower power adaper. Like if you put a 90w power adapter, your system might unstable, your adapter might get very hot. Coz your system try to draw more power from the adapter. Image your system have a pipe, and adapter is a tangki. If your pipe is small, you give big tangki no problem. if your pipe is big, you give small tangki will have big problem |

QUOTE(azamalin @ Mar 7 2015, 07:48 PM) Good. If you can straightly provide your findings so that they won't ask you do this do that in phone. If still under warranty, their NBD (next business day) service will make your eye drop how fast and effective is their job. But sometimes is depends on luck are they solve your problem or not. Like your problem reappear after 1 week of warranty or something else. |

QUOTE(azamalin @ Mar 7 2015, 08:48 PM) Why you need a replacement set? From what I heard they only will give you a replacement set if they can't fix your issue for 3 or more times. Overheat issue is a easy fix tho... So, I don't think you can get a replacement set. Even is replacement, they will probably give you the same unit. Your unit is just 6 month old, why you want a same unit? |

QUOTE(azamalin @ Mar 10 2015, 04:29 PM) dell technician checked my laptop today and replaced the graphic card and both fans. still the temperature wont drop. They just change like that? Dell cheapluk thermal compound can't use.I deal with Dell many time. I know they only provide very small amount of thermal compound to technician when they come to service. The will only change thermal compound if they change the heatsink or GPU. The thermal compound is totally low grade one... |
