Hi all. I am new here. I am currently doing an assignment for my English class about Social Problems in Malaysia's Youth and I decided to use 'smoker' as my title. I hope you guys can help me out.

Are you a smoker? And what do you think of smokers? What is the pros and cons of smoking? Thx

If this thread is not supposed to be here, I hope mods can help me move it.

im not suppose to do your homework for you and i really hope you fail miserabally for not understanding a simple fact that smokers arent a social problem. For a start, the very definition of social problem is "alleged situation that is incompatible with the values of a significant number of people who agree that action is needed to alter the situation"

From the above, i can say faggot teenagers, prostitute school girls, sexually confused males..or in better terms, sheboys are more likely to be a social problem than smoking

its more like idiots like you who just passed puberty and thinking that smoking is cool and you try to impress everyone with your Donuts smoke.

ur lucky im no mod else i'l ban your silly little ass right up to the hole u came out from.

No.
I think smokers are just like normal people.
Pros, they believe it releases stress.
Cons, a whole load of it you can find all over the internet.

It's obvious cockerish's a smoker. laugh.gif

Haha....smoking becomes a social problem when you have people lighting up all over the place without regard for no smoking signs or people beside them.

I'm not a smoker, though i do have a few friends who smoke. They're mostly okay, perfectly normal excepting the need to pop off somewhere for a fag every now and then. One common characteristic is their inability to stop though. They claim they can stop whenever they want, but they also admit the longest they've gone without is usually a few weeks.

Smokers are okay by me as long as they are considerate and take people into account when lighting out. Though i have yet to understand the rationale of rolling RM1 up and burning it. With added benefits of discoloured teeth, bad breath, decreased heart/lung capacity, cancer, impotence and all the rest. One of my friends does mention smoking helps his bowel movements...

I suppose cockerish should be able to help about the pros of smoking since he feels so strongly on the subject? icon_rolleyes.gif biggrin.gif

This is not the correct place for you to ask this kind of questions. Half of forumer are smokers, and half of them may get offended for your statement of smoking as social problem. Although youth are define as 13 to 40, but almost anyone above 18 who start working or entering college would deny themselves as youth, but adult.

People smoke because of several reasons, relieve stress, staying awake. Reliving stress is appropriately apply to working people, who has high responsibility, professional people, students. Staying awake would apply to long working hour people, student studying overnight, lawyer, architect.

IMO, those are secondary reason, for most people that is. But primary reason is they are addicted. If you sit down for a meal at any place, you'll see smoker right after their meal. Reason? The food not nice, so they were struggling to finish up the meal, and need to relieve themselves from those stressful meal? Addiction.

Smoking only post as a social problem for people who smoke frequently, or addiction. A packet of 14s cigaratte cost RM 5 somthing, 1-2 days for frequent smoker. simple maths would get you about RM 100 per month for cigarattes. For youth who can't afford it, they may find ways to get their hands onto it. Treatening friends, steal, cheat.

That is for youth who cant afford it. For working people, it's not so much of a problem. Youth problem only, only problematic youth. No offence cockerish. sweat.gif cool.gif

I dont smoke, simply because it will deteriote my health. IMO, smoking won't solve my problem either, same goes to crying won't help the girls. I never try a cigaratte before, so i can't tell how the smoke flowing into our lungs, and how relieving it is. I heard it's calming, especially for army who are prepared for war.

I'm damn sure it's possible. Grandpa smoked for ....73 years old,-13 years, 60 years. He even shared his father's cigarette's when he was younger.
Masuk hospital, admitted 2 minggu. Didn't touch 2 weeks, suffer like hell, but after that he didn't feel the need to smoke anymore.

I'm sure it's possible. Determination+Encouragement, you'll make it if you really want to.

Yeah....from the experiences of people who have successfully quit smoking, it's almost always through cold turkey treatment.

what kind of topic is this? Why dont ask something more useful instead of the pros and cons thingy? Ask something like how to quit smoking and the tips of it.

eh lets see...

pros: mm, some think it looks cool to smoke, apparently nicotine helps with memory problems, stress relief as with all drugs.

cons: lung, throat cancer, people around you are at risk of cancer aswell, bad for health in general(have a doctor give you a lung scan, even if youre not a smoker you'll probably have lungs which are pretty black due to smokers around you), annoying smell, the list goes on.

smoking is an addiction, it kills those close to you. if you're a smoker remember, if someone in your family gets cancer you probably caused it.

I have never smoked.

And will never smoke.

This will be one step better than my dad who tried it once in his youth and amazingly did not "follow up". Thank God!
