dreamcast's graphics can beat the crap out of the PS2 anytime....just compare both console's anti-aliasing capabilties and u'll see...

blame it on Sega's n00b management and marketing skillz for bringing the Dreamcast down.

The game is only 3 discs, but there are 4th discs which contain extras.

Quote from Wikipedia:

QUOTE
NTSC and PAL editions of Shenmue included a feature not available in the original Japanese release. Accessible on a special fourth disc, Passport is a supporting application of sorts that greatly enhances the Shenmue experience. The Theater option allows players to view FMV Video sequences they have unlocked in the main game, while the Music option works in the same way but with unlocked tracks from the game's soundtrack. In addition, the Information section allows new players to learn more about the various aspects of Shenmue gameplay. Several of the game's main characters appear in pre-rendered sequences to talk through a variety of elements from Shenmue including Mini-Games, Magic Weather System, Free Battle and several others. These sequences are fully interactive, allowing players to interuppt the preset camera movements and take control of all camera movement. Many of these tutorial-style sequences were used as Technical Demo's and shown at various events, such as E3, prior to the game's release.

Passport also utilises the Dreamcast's internet connectivity. The Shenmue World feature contained highly detailed information about all aspects of the Shenmue world (i.e. Locations and Characters), and it also hosted an online manual. Furthermore, Shenmue World also allowed players to upload thier scores from the playable Arcade games found in Shenmue and to compete in the worldwide rankings board. Downloads, including Shenmue-themed VMU Icons and in-game collectable items (such as toy capsules), could be obtained through Shenmue World, with several of them requiring some kind of item trade. Via loading thier saved games, players could also use this feature of Passport to view detailed information about thier data - from total hours of play, to frequency of Mini-Game plays, to the number of Cola drink purchases. As of April 1, 2002, all Online features of Passport were discontinued. [1] This was due to the cancellation of all Sega Dreamcast production, which also saw the closing of the systems dedicated ISP Dreamarena (for Europe) and SegaNet (for North America).

The earlier batch of Dreamcast games really show off what kind of power next-gen systems were capable of. I remember how seeing Virtua Fighter 3 run on the Model 3 arcade board in 1996, and thinking, "No way can a console replicate these kind of graphics".

Until I learned of the Dreamcast. 60fps, multitextured, high-poly count graphics was the high watermark that the Dreamcast set with games like Virtua Fighter 3 Team Battle, Virtual On: Oratario Tangram, and of course, Soul Calibur. Later consoles like the Xbox, Gamecube and Playstation2 were capable of doing more stuff faster, better. But the Dreamcast did it first, and that remains true, regardless of your loyalty to a particular console.

I can almost weep tears of joy as I remember how cool the Dreamcast was. All the memories, all the games. Dreamcast easily ranks among one of my favourite gaming consoles ever.

Don't be bias-ler. The DC undoubtly has better AA capability, but in other ways the PS2 is better.

Lightsourcing and particle effects in PS2 is much better than the DC. The lighting in PS2 can kill the DC anytime...SEGA just isn't good at lightsourcing with their hardware since the days of the Saturn. The PS2 also can do higher polygon count than the DC. When PS2 was initially released, nobody knows how to program it yet, that's why it look so crap. Just look at VF4(PS2) vs VF3(DC). This is truly a next-gen gap in these two games on the 2 platforms.

The DC was really the first next-gen console, but unfortunately, most of the games sucks, really. If it wasn't for Soul Calibur i won't even bought one back then. It was good hardware, but unfortunately, the games aren't much to talk about except SOUL cALIBUR ( SA...i dunno about you, but this game is just so fugly and pointless...Rayman released at the same time, looks way better) and....errr...err...Skies of Arcadia, Grandia 2....err....that's it.

BTW, ShenMue is a lotsa over-rated boring crap. ShenMue 2 is much much better though.

I thought that the DC had a really stellar lineup, I mean they had games like Shenmue, Powerstone, Tech Romancer, Soul Calibur, all of which we have never really seen before the DC. It was sad to see some of the better games die with the console.

IIRC Dreamcast died primarily because they lost the battle outside of Japan right?

1) Because a lot of gamers rather wait a year for PS2 than buying Dreamcast.
2) Sega don't have enough funds to continue console business.
