Panasonic is considerably young in the field of photography but no one can deny the fact that their pace is going really fast, and they actually post a threat to long-running manufacturers eg. Nikon, Canon and Sony.

Who could ever forget the inclusion of Mega OIS in compact cameras, the feat the stunned many photo-buffs.
Then there's the 16:9 LX1 camera.
Their Venus Engine image processor.
and coming soon - Panasonic DMC-L1.

I have to admit that although all the cameras I owned previously were good (Sony Cybershot, Canon Powershot, Olympus miu, Canon 350), the Lumix series got my attention wild. After having hands-on experiences with so many Panasonic cameras, I must say that I'm extremely impressed by the effort put in by its developers.

On the other hand, noise is an issue for all Panasonic digicams but with the upcoming Venus Engine III (it's already used for TZ1), noise is no more an issue.

Let's share our experiences with Lumix cameras, the pros and cons...

I'm tempted to get TZ1 due to its fantastic 10X zoom feature and very compact size.

However, the noise level which has been discussed in various forums still high despite it used the latest Venus Engine III, may be have to wait for the Venus IV release.

VE3 still high? No leh... if compared to VE2 it's much lower already.
But as other forums mentioned, you want less noise you'll sacrifice on details, like what other compact cameras are doing.

I'd rather have a little noise and edit them later without losing out on the details le...

when come to jpg, even neatimage cannot do much already

pana is quite stubborn, let it store as raw, would not need to
spend on r&d a penny

A raw image file contains minimally processed data from the image sensor of a digital camera or image scanner. Raw files are so named because they are not yet processed and ready to use by a bitmap graphics editor, printed, or displayed by a typical web browser. The image must be processed and converted to an RGB format such as TIFF or JPEG before it can be manipulated.

itu saja..... FZ-30 got !!

dannytzh, I'll 2nd dat... truthfully speaking, noise in TZ1 is indeed causing much complaints.. This is when you decide for yourself, on how much noise are u willing to tolerate.. I'm a proud owner of TZ1 btw.. n i can tolerate the noise processed on the pictures.. some reviews I read, I dun think I can accept wat has being said as most of them haf been using prosumer cameras. Itz kinda stupid to compare an apple to an orange ryt? n if even so they are comparing apple to apple, say P&S cameras, there ain't much P&S cameras dat provide the same features... hence, the 10x optical, Venus Engine (3rd Gen.) n Mega IOS (2nd Gen.) play sum roles there. and given d fact dat itz a new camera by pana, it still uses the Leica lenses.. afaik, some of d new ones, uses Lumix lenses as Pana already start to produce their own lenses, for their low-end cameras...
