Yamaha sound is good as usual, but the design, hmm they should change the designer. Haha!

The YSP series is quite old, also another reason is there is a hell lots of speakers inside( 44 beam drivers inisde YSP-5600). Hence the bulky design.

The latest low end sound bars like my YAS-108 is actually very good looking. biggrin.gif

not sure..i downloaded sample here.. http://jell.yfish.us
all those 10-bit, hevc can play smoothly on my pc (i'm using mpc player, when using gom/vlc video is lagging) but output on full hd monitor...does it mean my pc can handle 4k hdr?
if my pc cant handle then atmos is beyond my reach...have to upgrade pc, then 4k tv, soundbar...  doh.gif  rclxub.gif

PC just need to passthrough, i think even low end GPU can passthrough Atmos.

For HDR another matter, have to ensure it is capable of it. I think GPU like Nvidia 1050 will satisy these criterias, but you should check their specs.
And yes, you need 4K TV wirh HDR. Your current FullHD monitor won't have HDR.
And yes, you need to buy a Soundbar which support atmos.
And yes, you need to pay a lot of money.

And in the end, i think its not worth the money or trouble.....too few Atmos and HDR source currently.

IMO, no point purposely buying for Atmos or HDR right now. If you are buying a new TV or soundbar or HT, then its maybe good idea to look out that they support these features for future proofing..(especially TV...make sure it has HDR)....but building an entire ecosystem for HDR and Atmos purpose is....well, not worth it to me.

After ding ding dong dong in between Samsung, Sony and then Yamaha soundbar (108 vs 207) in the past few months, decided to book YAS-108 thru Lazada at 12am today morning at RM833.55 from Style Laser. Raya offer price at RM854.05 + Delivery RM4.50 - Discount code RM25.

Hope it won't let me down. Subwoofer Klipsch R-8SW may ugrade in new future. The subwoofer current price is at RM1,099 now at Lazada.

Fark..so cheap...cry.gif i bought mine RM9xx from Desa Kepong last month...cry.gif

Anyway, you can ask me anything on the YAS-108. I am pairing it with my existing Yamaha subwoofer, although i seldom turn it on.

For me the 3D Surround (Virtual DTS:X) and Clear Dialogue must always be turn on!

Just wondering if there are any half decent Soundbars available nowadays.
I don't expect it to be on the same level as separate components.

Anyone bought or audition Sony HT-ST7. The specs are pretty ok....

Answering the original topic from 2013 in 2019.

I am glad to say soundbars are pretty good nowadays and can reolace separate components setup for typical users (not for the picky die die must have 9.2 speakers setup people...smile.gif )

Soundbars sure have come a long way!
