Got the letter from OCBC bank stating the changes in this card. Gotta respect them for writing it in such way that it sounded like they've revamped the card for the greater good of the world with the 1% for all.

There is a saying that goes "the proof of the pudding is in the eating."

In the case of Credit Cards, the proof is in the addition or attrition rate. I suspect that OCBC will see record attrition in their Titanium Credit Card in addition to massive drop in Card Spend.

Can fool smart k/tars esp with sifus like Gen-X, Ronnie, etc

Bro, if u have so many other Cards, will your Cash Rebate of 1.0% be enough to cover the Service Tax. You need to swipe at least RM5K a year to breakeven.

my insurance is about 1500 so i should apply AEON right?
the quarter cash rebate = 1500 * 3months * 3% = 135.

is my calculation correct?
Thx
*
You mean your insurance is RM1,500 per month? Yes, then your calculation is correct. This is a very good card for such monthly autodebit.

You still have room to do some additional payments such as monthly Electricity Bills or Streamyx / Unifi bills.

The monthly limit is RM1,666 on an averaged basis based on rebate capped at 3% of RM5,000 accumulated spending every Quarter which works out to about RM1,666 per month

i am applying OCBC card now...titanium or platinum is better? platinum they will automatically convert retails to installment? LOL.....need advise before i thick which card....
*
Do u really need to auto convert all your Purchases. It means that u are spendign beyond your means.

Get the card with the highest benefits, Titanium Cash Rebate is 1%, Platinum is only like 0.5%.

Honestly, with salary req of only 24K, no point calling it a Platinum Card. In comparison, Alliance Platinum req is RM60K per annum

Point 9 but they didn't specify clearly on which card sad.gif

"Can the service tax be waived?
Just like any other service tax imposed by and payable to the Malaysian Government, we are unable to waive. However, we have the Annual Usage Bonus programme based on your card spending to help you redeem against the service tax."
*
There is an overriding provision at the end that "OCBC reserves the right to revise any of the terms and conditions".

If we go to the OCBC Website under the Credit Cards Section, there is a link for

Revision to OCBC Great Eastern Credit Card Features

This latest announcement should superseed any previous T&C. However, for clarity, OCBC should also edit the previous FAQ on the Annual Usage Bonus of RM10K to offset the GST which was a feature of the Titanium Card.

However, the latest Announcement clearly states that all previous features are now replaced with the 1% unlimited cash rebate.

But it should not stop any of us to ask individually, but to rely on the previous link may not work as there has been an updated feature announcement.

Yes, I do hate ocbc for removing the 5% CB.  mad.gif
I have to replan to adapt my spending pattern around all the cards I have.

Just my 2 cents. My reading on “MUST-HAVE SECOND CARD” is that they planned to place ocbc TMC as the "secondary" card to supplement other "primary" cards. It pays (a hell lot) to be number 1, I guess ocbc knows where they stand. Just like any election, some do know they can only contest for Deputy post and not President post. It is better to be in the game than out of the game. So, ocbc wants to be the best "second card". icon_rolleyes.gif

I don't know about others, for my spending pattern, I do need such "second card" for big items that don't accept Amex (not in WISE categories; and already max out Watami cc tongue.gif). I used to resort to MB2 Master with 1xTP (a miserable 0.4% equivalent CB) with a feeling of "no choice".  sad.gif
I have searched for a cc to fill this gap. Considered HLB Essential but din apply just for the mere 1% CB. Now I got it since ocbc revert to 1% unlimited CB. Not exactly what I wish it to happen. sweat.gif So now I downgrade ocbc TMC from "prime" CB cc to "secondary" CB cc for my "others" expenses. I'll still keep it for such purpose.

Let's hope there are other banks offering killer CB cc in 2014.  yawn.gif

For me, I have applied for AEON Watami and Alliance Platinum. Already approved but still waiting for Cards to arrive.

AEON Watami - Insurance and Utility Bills - to hit first RM1,500 to RM1,667 (max Cash Back)
Alliance Platinum - Others up to RM5K (means combined spending is close to RM6,667). Will seldom hit RM5K, at most is about RM3K
UOB Platinum - For Petrol, Telco and Hypermarket bills
OCBC - Fourth and Last Card to be used for one-off Annual Items.

Why you never apply the top two cash back cards ? Mbb2Amex 7% and HLB Wise 10%?
*
HLB Wise - My spending is very varied and of the categories, probably only Petrol I would gain from the 10% and of course, Telco. But the 10 swipes of RM50 each is a bit troublesome for me to keep track.

As for AMEX, have personal reasons against Tiger Bank. Plus, I may not spend every weekend to be able to gain from the 5% and 5x TP.

Already found it.
*
for the benefit of those who did not find it.

This is a standard feature for all CC in MY.

Basically it means that, if you have fully settled all your previous balances, you will have a so-called interest free period for a period of 20-days from the Statement Date.

Eg. Billing Date is on 10th of the Month.

You swipe on 8th of Jan. Transaction Posted on 8th, captured say on 9th
Statement Dated 10 Jan arrives on 14 Jan
You have 20-days from Statement Date to pay, i.e. interest free until 30 Jan

This also means that if u can time your purchases carefully, this can be extended to 50-days, 30-days for the Billing Cycle and 20-days from the Statement Date.

This also means that u should always pay in full, else, you will be charged interest from the date of your retail spend. It was not always like this, back in my days of CC, even if u don’t pay in full, you still get the 20-days Interest Free.

Same eg. above

First Transaction on 8th Jan – Captured on 9 Jan and appear in Jan 10 Statement
Next Transaction on 11th Jan, captured on 12 Jan and will only appear on Feb 10 Statement with Due date on say 2 March.

I have max out others cards (UOB, MBB2) rebates, so this 1% rebate is useful for me for all other retail transactions when merchant dont accept AMEX, my 1% rebate monthly is about rm50 so can easily offset GST  tongue.gif

SCB card has very less benefit for me now, will try to apply the HLB WISE, want to max out the 10% rebate too  biggrin.gif

Bos, if your monthly 1% CB is more than RM50, that means you're spending more than RM5K a month. In that case, you're better off with the Alliance Platinum as you get a tier-CB of up to 2%, capped at RM5K.

So, if u do spend RM5K a month, your CB with Alliance Platinum is RM68.71 in Cash and you can redeem about RM20.58 in cash vouchers. Total cash equivalent is RM89.29 compared to Titanium of just RM50. But Alliance Platinum CB is capped at RM5K a month.

You can also split your spending to the first RM1,667 to AEON Watami where you can get back RM150 every quarter (or equivalent RM50 per month) and charge the remainder (RM3,333) to Alliance Platinum where u can get RM35.39 in cash (combined is RM85.39) and cash vouchers of about RM13.70. Total cash equivalent is RM99.09 compared to just RM50 for the Titanium

You should refer to Gen-X blog as he has outlined the best CC Combination for monthly spend of up to RM7K a month.

What happens if we accidentally pay less than the minimum payment amount?  Will late payment penalty be applied?  And how is minimum payment amount calculated?
*
Standard Clause for most CC:

"If the cardmember fails to pay the Minimum Monthly Repayment by the Payment Due Date, a late payment charge of 1% of the Card Account on the outstanding balance or RM10.00, whichever is higher, subject to a maximum of RM100.00 will be imposed and stated in the monthly statement."

Minimum Balance Payment is 5% of the Monthly Outstanding Amount or RM50, whichever is the higher.

You still have tiime to make another payment to your CC. Do it before Statement Date and u can ask for waiver of penalty interest as u can say that u overlooked.

Accidentally paid less than minimum this month as I always pay on time and about the same amount... overlooked some big purchases this month.  Thanks, will give them a call smile.gif
*
Try to pay all your CC in Full. You are paying 15% interest p.a. (or 1.25% per mth) which is higher than your 1% CB

today received a call from OCBC, persuade me to upgrade Titanium to World. Confirmed GST waiver (rebate in same month RM50 automatically), free first year AF, then during next anniversary month, asked me to call up again before AF being charge, she said my spending pattern 100% get AF waived, I asked her the basic criteria but she not willing, or unable to tell.

at the end, I upgraded, since she so kind n sweet, haha
*
what exactly is your spendign pattern, if u do not mind disclosing. No need exact sum, just the bracket.

Have u called the CS out for lunch / drinks. Go for it, maybe it will work out. You can ask some of the Sifu here to apply through for upgrade your new GF. Score you brownie points.

*
Same here. Since the 1% was announced and I got my so-called replacement CC, my spending with OCBC from > RM1K a month has dropped to ZERO save for the autodebit for utilities that I have no time to personally visit to change.

There is no perfect CC for everyone. But to herc, you should visit Gen-X blog for this comprehensive write-up on various CC in MY.

Good for you Bro that you are making $$$ from the CC. You can call UOB to waive any interest / penalty if you have been paying on time and in full, even if u missed payment for a-month. Happened to me before also. Only reallised when next month statement arrived.
