Bought my iPad Air from HK yesterday. Bought the silver wifi only but 128gb. Apple store is so big and cool!

Bought my 128GB Wifi only in Hong Kong for RM2620. A little too much to pay for ipad but what the heck LOL!

For my case, I requested the Apple Store staff to activate for me. I need it activated while in Hong Kong. Great thing is that the Apple store have a section for customer to sit down to activate and customize their new purchase. The internet speed is super fast too so I manage to download many games and apps so my kids can use it while on vacation.

I went to the Causeway Bay store which is the biggest store in Hong Kong with 3 stories of Apple goodness. The IFC mall is 2 stories only but each floor is actually bigger than the Causeway Bay Store

The amount of ram does matter when you do a lot of multitasking...something iOS don't do very well. I would love to see more ram on the iPad so I don't really need to close all those apps in the background

Be patient if you feel that the iPad Air feels laggy. I do feel it too. The Air use A7 processor which is a very fast chip utilizing 64 bit architecture. Because a lot of apps are not optimize for 64 bit yet so they might not run as smooth now. Things should get better once iOS 7 is fully optimised for the iPad 64 bit architecture.

I got 2 spare iPad Air case to sell. I bought 3 while in china. 2 of them don't have smart function so I think I am not going to use it. Willing to sell it cheap. RM25 each.

Storage Size is user dependent. There is no such thing as too much! I just splash RM2600+ for my 128 gb Air because because it's just another RM330 extra for additional 64GB lol. Now I am down to 10gb of free space only.

The primary reasons I opt for such large storage is because I stores lots of movies and concerts. Not only that, I also use my iPhone 5 to shoot a lot of videos which I then airdrop to my iPad where I edit with iMovie. Imagine that if I have the iPhone 5S, The slow-mo video at 120fps will eat up space even faster!

I also transfer photos from my Dslr to my iPad to take advantage of the retina display and the properly calibrated iPad display to judge the color when editing my photos on my PC. Those photos are very large in size with each photos around 15mb to 20mb.

And for my full hd Mkv movies, I use VLC player which I can directly transfer to the iPad without conversion. A good full hd Mkv can easily go up to 10-15gb. By now you can see why there can never be too much storage.

At the end of the day, I don't want the limited storage size to limit the usefulness of my iPad and ultimately limit what I can do on it.

I did try Infuse. Free version can only support 720p.

VLC player can support subtitle too. Just name the subtitle file to the same name as the Mkv file and transfer it to the iPad like you transfer the movies file. When playing the movie, you have the option to turn on and off the subtitle and can even select which subtitle file to playback. Can also change the font size and font type of the subtitles in the setting. Not sure about Infuse can do the same.

Here is a more complete description on how to transfer Mkv to VLC.

Connect your iPad to your PC.
In iTunes select your iPad.
Select the App tab
Scroll down and you will see File sharing. Those apps below the File sharing section means that it support file sharing.
Click on VLC and drag and drop your Mkv on window on the right.
You can do the same for the subtitle file but make sure it's name the same as the Mkv file.


You can do same for other apps available in the file sharing section.

I have Infuse free version in my Air. It's really useless when it cannot playback in 1080p and don't support DTS as most Mkv now is in DTS.

Multi task page is 4 fingers swipe up. I don't see any bad resolution on the words…just smaller.

Never never buy matte screen protector. It totally ruin the beautiful retina display. I would suggest going for glass SP after I try it on my iPhone. Most likely will never use normal sp anymore. Glass sp gives you the feel like no sp on.

I order this from Taobao. I haven't apply it on yet because I am offshore now and my wife just receive few days ago.

However I bought 2 glass SP for my iPhone 5 while I was in china 3 weeks ago. Just a cheap one that cost RM10 each only. Works very well. I not trying to get SP that is shattered proof so it doesn't matter. As long as it offer decent protection and feels great. Glass sp feel so smooth when compared to regular sp. Fingerprint also easier to wipe on glass sp
