Guys, i learnt that card usage at Genting Casinos are counted as cash advance,
so what if i swipe my card at Genting First world for hotel room? will it be treated as cash advance also?
*
For hotel, it should not be recognized as cash advance.

So, they are using different card registers in casino and hotel?
*
Probably. I would not know for sure.

But I tried assisting my friend in booking a room in Genting before.

It is charged as hotel, not as cash advance.

How about FD pledging for foreigners? mean they can have the cc also as long as the pledge is on?
*
For foreigners, you have different regulations to comply with.

dear sifus, just wanna ask. assuming my credit limit is rm8k. and i make an instant interbank transfer of rm2k to my cc. does it mean that i can swipe rm10k right away eventhough it's not updated yet in the outstanding balance? or have to wait till the next day?
*
Until the transfer is recorded in your CC's record, I think you can't swipe pass 8k.

Any consequences if I apply, get the gift upon approval, then terminate it? haha

Do it few times and banks would probably keep a record of you for doing so.

It's unethical to apply for the sake of free gift and canceling it shortly afterwards.

Two days ago I applied for a credit card via an agent with portable KWSP machine. In the form I have to fill in my mother's number and phone number.

Now that I think about it, it seems odd that they request for this information. Did I just get conned? sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat:
*
Can't recall any credit card application I did without giving up my phone number / mothers name.

It's a form of security, if I am not mistaken.

If a person holding Maybank Visa Infinite and Visa Signature both card at the same time, in order to waive the annual fee for both card , the person need to spend 50k for each card (total 100k spending) or Just 50k only ah?
*
I have a feeling it's both 50k.

I recalled once there was a rule saying there should be no minimum amount required for the use of credit card.

Would anyone remember if it's any link to back the fact up? Apparently some places don't want to let me swipe my card if the amount is small ( eg - Less than 50 or so. )

It's getting irritating as I usually don't carry cash around nowadays. sweat.gif

Even if it has, you wanna show it to those merchants? laugh.gif
I find the minimum amount allowed to swipe is better than those merchants charge 2-3% on their customers. shakehead.gif
*
Call BNM and complaint. laugh.gif

I heard from my friends working for the merchant side that they will fine the Terminal renter if they don't allow customer to use CC for some amount.

Since I am being kiasu nowadays, hantam la if got chance tongue.gif

And yeah, those who charged 2~3%, I really facepalm.

Can actually complain to BNM also one. thumbup.gif

I don't mind if got minimum.

But at least :-

1. Display openly
2. Tell people before they choose shop there
3. Well, don't give bullshit excuse like machine lambat if kurang daripada 25 ringgit laugh.gif

QUOTE(Human Nature @ Aug 19 2015, 08:49 PM)
I am interested to know if there is such rule too. Do research and let us know ya. I get agitated when the shop display the visa/mc/amex accepted sticker outside and then refuse to accept CC inside.
*

I swipe in a cafe today , half way swiping, the worker say it didn't go through and press cancel button. However, I received a SMS stating the transaction successful. The worker request for another cc to swipe again. When I call the bank, the bank say the transaction is successful. But when the merchant call their bank, then their bank say the transaction is not successful. Should I allow the worker to swipe again?
*
I think the worker cancelled too early laugh.gif

Happened to me once when the line was bad at the cafe.

Was double charged for my transaction.

I did let them swipe again and I called Maybank to ensure that only 1 transaction was performed.

Took them 14 days to reverse the charge thou.

I call maybank, maybank say check transaction after 7 days, if they charged 2 times, then fill in dispute form.. So much hassle.

Like this one lo.

They have to follow procedure also what.

I did write a complete email with detailed timeline and I scanned the copy of the CC slip which I was given as a proof that only 1 transaction was authorized.

I don't think that promotion ever ended, no?

They have a dedicated counter for HLB GSC CC holder.

Human Nature

I managed to extract an answer from BNM after 2 long weeks.

Let me share to you the email they replied me.

They did not go deep into the specific rules and regulations but from some merchant terminal agreement I was browsing though due to the nature of my work, pretty sure there's certain T&C which states it's wrong to impose surcharge or refuse to accept credit card from customer.

I guess it's actually high time for us to start making complaints / compiling a list of errand merchants who imposes surcharges, minimum amount of spending for CC and etc and start to keep them in line laugh.gif

Thanks for sharing. So it validates what we know ie. the authoritative figure here will be mastercard / visa. Maybe you forward your questions to both mastercard / visa and see how they respond biggrin.gif
*
Will do.

Anything else to ask? I might have overlooked something so if anyone has any questions, just post em here.

Will compile and send to Master/Visa tomorrow for a more detailed explanation.

The three points are fine. Maybe you could add that you have been advised by the central bank to seek advice from Mastercard / Visa. Get them to state how can customers play a role and what could be the action taken by Mastercard / Visa against errant merchants. Thanks  biggrin.gif

Good job! Will wait for your update! I am very angry with those merchant charge extra 2% for using cc!

If you guys are interested, enclosed herewith is the reply from Visa / Mastercard.

Visa

Mastercard

In a nutshell....

Visa tells you to go complaint to your issuing bank. Your issuing bank would then forward the case to Visa for further action. They enclosed a list of number for you to call. Then they will take some kinda action laugh.gif

Mastercard tells you that it's okay to levy a surcharge providing that it's levied towards all Mastercard.

1. Capped at 4% or monthly surcharge rate specified at Master's website.
2. Surcharge amount MUST be disclosed and included in the tax invoice.
3. MUST be in writing and 30 days advance notice. ( Malaysian surely fail this one already laugh.gif )

End of the day, if you get refused, just go ahead and lodge complaints.

Sooner or later, the issuing bank / merchant would get pissed and start to take action. We all can do our part in complaining.

Thanks for the effort..luckily I am using visa most of the time. So the best way is to file a complaint to the bank and cc to BNM and Visa/MC
*
Mastercard also quite transparent.

If you want to charge the surcharge, must be in written notice + 30 days advance.

Which merchant got write a letter 30 days in advance saying want to surcharge us? laugh.gif

Terminal agreement / Merchant brand such as Visa / Master does not discriminate any amount for the use of CC nor surcharges are allowed, so next time someone refuse to accept, go ahead and CC BNM / Visa / Master.

More complaint, more reason for them to take action and card users like us won't be bullied by those errand merchants.

Maybe it's time to start a thread to collect the information of such merchant, and start spreading awareness?

Alone, it might do nothing. But at least, people will read and eventually start taking action.

Or at least, it spreads awareness laugh.gif
