one interesting feature in the new Android kitkat 4.4...

zRAM... i remember i added this to my custom ROM for Galaxy W back then.

it's actually a RamDisk. so, most frequently used stuff can be stored here. it will allow faster access than reading from your flash memory.

but, in low RAM device such as Galaxy W, with only 512mb, allocating a RamDisk will even make available memory even less for OS and app.

the solution, zRAM. you compress the RamDisk. the trick is to use Zip algorithm that can unzip REALLY fast. we can forgo the compress time, it's ok to be slower because we only compress when we store something. what is really important is ACCESS time. which mean the decompression time. i used LZO algo back then.

nice to know some of this old stuff coming back to the new Android.

TLDR: custom ROM/kernel developer has been using some of these stuff in 4.4 wayyyyyy back ehhehe

the photo taken using photosphere, after render, we can see the 360 degree using the same phone, but after share it via whatsapp to friend, then can't see the original 360 degree picture, but is with many pieces result... anyway they can see the complete 360 degree ?

Hands On PA Link on Android KitKat 4.4 just now. Basically it still appear with no PA features. Still got bugs on Calender and GPS as this release were not meant for our device just yet. Once its release, it will have Nexus 4 driver and be ready as daily driver.

UI enhance and Launcher appear to be great. Might be option to use other than Nova or Apex. What odd is there are 3 launchers to  be choose.

Easier access to Google Now.

It appear to be more hollow looking. Home navi and status bar as u guys see appear to be semi-transparent. Plus light blue theme were change to white theme.

Down side of having bigger icon, it appear to be less sharp. I guess it will appear great for Nexus 5 with greater ppi.

More proper in adding widget on homescreen and lockscreen.

Benchmark with Antutu around 15K. With less memory usage by Kitkat than JB, supposedly it should be higher than our current JB 4.3. But who cares about benchmark score anyway. Plus it still early release.

Plus much more features added as u guys know. Integrated SMS, Universal dialer, etc.

Good for those who want to get first look on Android KitKat. Flash it with CWM. Have problem when flash with TWRP.

yesterday i post about my nexus 4 problem,
flashing factory image did worked well, but i lost all my data. Only managed to pull whatsapp history from my phone.

yeah, i normally use more on whatsapp and 24/7 3G or wifi 
Currently using crDroid custom rom with hells core kernel
Notice that N4 charger charged up faster but the battery dont last. Normally with the same usage, it will left around 25 to 40% at 3hours SOT.

i didn't did a backup because i just want to change the kernel, however i accidentally clean wipe instead of clean cache.  Clumsy me. hoho

Those who wants try kitkat early, this seems like a stable build.

That is why i always double confirm I have backup everything before i flash anything lol ... people maybe use less than 15 mins to flash ... i spend 1 day or 2 days to make sure i backup everything before I flash LOL ... slowpoke me ...
That is long ... my SOT on Hell's core was only 1 hour 45 mins and max 2 hours 10 mins with Wifi and 3G on. And on PA Rom.
Didn't notice anyone consolidate the 4.4 Kit Kat AOSP and Nexus 5 port so I will do it here. Can someone help tag Polarbear here and maybe ask him to update in front page ? I dont know how to tag people here

still not able to use my waze.. but google maps navigation works perfectly.. 
wonder wanna back to 4.3 since 4.4 battery life kinda suxks at this moment..

Seem a lot with Power Button issue. May be I am one of those lucky enough to have no issue with the Power Button. I used it regularly. Not using any of those Swipe-to-wake stuff. The button work without issue.

Have not got time to play with Kitkat source. One feature I like in Kitkat is the new Screen recording capability. I used to make video recording from another phone to show the smoothness of Nexus 4.

nexus 4 still worth buying? love the design and the 2gig ram would benefit my multitasking habit.

currently on s3 and i dont need LTE.

my s3 internal memory also cant utilize finish.

Better camera? im satisfied with s3 camera as i only use it for work. technical stuff and technical drawing

You get it wrong...

S3 has a better camera compared to Nexus 4. I've been in a situation where S3 and Note 2 camera totally put Nexus 4 and Galaxy Nexus camera in shame. So many shots taken on Nexus 4 and Galaxy Nexus comes out blurry. Friend Note 2/S3 just one shot already a much better picture.

Maybe you won't find them different in perfect setting (sufficient light, still subject etc) but the camera in S3 is quite far ahead in low light.

Seems like Google will continue to make Nexus phones suffer in low light
