Using RO in my case. Usually fill it up on the UP Aqua 6L bucket and necessary amount of Prime for 6L... stir, cover it with saran wrap and wait for the next wc. The bucket is really useful IMO... it's quick to drain the water out, but takes me 2hrs+ to refill it back as I only turn the tap slightly.

Well here's a quickie on my shrimps feasting. Lost a handsome fire red male & a female recently  but the rest are still doing good *thankfully* Pardon the condensation on the tank and shaky vid

My tank is pretty uneventful. Trimming the darn overgrown moss and removing excess flowing plants every couple days and learned that horned nerite snails poo like crazy.

And fighting water surface oil layer.

Short of using a skimmer or air pump (not practical in my case), I've tried manually removing it, I tried the paper towel method, I did water change, I cut down feeding to 20% compared with before (less shrimps now anyway  ) but the darn thing reappear every couple days. 

Edit: Oh.. and my ongoing battle with leeches.

Finally spinach is in season here. How long can I keep blanched spinach in the tank before it starts affecting my water quality?

There is hob filter that come with surface skimmer but there is possibilities of shrimp be suck in as well.
You can try biochem no-planaria powder for the leeches problem.  May work on them.

You guys HAVE to congratulate me on this.. I've now got almost the entire collection of known bugs and critters in my small tank.

- seed shrimps --> checked
- pest snails --> checked but under control. Occassionally see one.
- nematodes --> checked but under control. Occassionally see one.
- leeches --> checked
- planaria --> checked but relatively under control.
- hydra --> LATEST part of the collection

For rcs. Can. Just that the shrimp will have to roller skate on the floor during the initial phase till biofiln build up on the floor. Color will be dull without strong contrast on substrate and decor.

It's less than 2 months old so still teething problems I suppose.

The thing is... when I pulled out the dead shrimp, it feels like the shell is abnormally hard so I did a water test and found that my kh has gone up quite substantially but GH is ok. I think some rocks are leeching lime so also removed all the rocks now.

Bro  tzuen rcs refer to red crystal shrimp aka crs.
Red cherry shrimp rm1 to rm2 depend where you get.

Benibachi is the pioneer in shrimps breeding in japan.
Brand like rac and Borneowild are either copying their fornula or getting oem products from benibachi.
Price is on the high side but results is there if follow accordingly.

It's been a while since I posted. Did some new year cleaning recently and was surprised that I had more shrimps than expected. These fellas really masters in hiding.

these fishes feed on shrimps. they kiss all them goodbye.

i brought small shrimps & bloodworms  for them to feast. they like it so much.
