QUOTE(coolkwc @ Nov 7 2013, 10:54 AM) Thanks bro. I got mine for like 3 months, still can't understand the Triangle. I normally test shot few to adjust the settings for lightning then start shooting till I like. This is my 1st ever DSLR, the ISO-Aperture-Exposure relationship still very blur. Already read alot of 'theory', need practice now. Actually next month 8th will be my wedding day, i asked around those professional photographer all needs 3-4k for full day photo shooting. So myself have to get use of this within 1 month before i can teach my camera men on that day, my older bro. |

Hi sifus,
I wanted to buy a new lens as the kit lens doesn't provide the sharpness I wanted. Finally step into prime lens. As budget problem, I'm only able to get 35mm f.18 and 50mm f1.8. Normal usage would be traveling and food photo. As much research 35mm is all rounded which is good for me since I take various crappy photos(LOL). But I want to hear more opinion on this. Since food photo is also vital to me, 50mm also a good lens for better close up. Opinion guys? Side Question : How to avoid reflection from the food? You know, some oil will reflect the light from the ambient light which makes the photo suckish.. Photo taking with no set-up, just DSLR and in-door restaurant light. Is it I need a filter or something? |

QUOTE(Agito666 @ Nov 15 2013, 02:59 PM) not sure reflection issue, maybe polarized filter can help? never hear that filter for food shot la, but normally that filter to reduce reflection for glasses of buildings and water surface like lake. Problem is I normally shot at 28mm-ish, and those lens are bloody expensive with those aperture. Guess have to do some standing and positioning when using 35mm. and about 35 and 50 mm i got little experience.. 35mm you no need move backward to shoot fried chicken plate on KFC standard size table, while 50mm you need move backward like 1-2 chair unit of KFC standard chair width. or just use your kitlens and adjust to 35 and 50 mm to see how far you can shoot. For event shot such as cosplay, 35mm is super good, not far not near, sharp, decent bokeh, bright.. but for food I have no idea how... and my friend keep poison me with his 17-50mm f2.8, the sharpness..!! |

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « true, but the 50mm produce so good looking portraiture... nice photo bro, the group photo looks colourfull! QUOTE(Pro3363 @ Nov 15 2013, 03:24 PM) DX get 35mm better. That day went to an event with just D3200 + 50mm, when they asked me to take group photo, had a hard time framing... Not wide enough... ya, 35mm just a very good all rounded, slight wide, slight tight.. with D3200 huge MP, I guess cropping is not an issue if the photo is sharp and clear~ |

QUOTE(PF T.J. @ Nov 15 2013, 03:50 PM) You are most welcomed, keep shooting, sure will improve more Hmm.. go home I post my crappy food photo and let you see... Primes are much sharper than kitlens right out of the camera, and of course, the bokeh is very hard to resist As for reflections or not, it depends on the ambient light in the restaurant I suppose? All you need to do is change your angle, or the location of the food until there's no reflections QUOTE(GreenJellyBean @ Nov 15 2013, 04:30 PM) From my experience, 50mm f/1.8 D is soft away from the center of the frame when wide open at 1.8. I have to shoot at 2.8 if I am not focusing at the center. I am not sure if 35mm 1.8G has such issues. However, for the price you are paying I have no complains Haha. Just keep that in mind and work around the challenges ya I experience that too, f1.8 is too shallow and easy to miss focus(35mm f.18 from friend)... still love that sharpness.. can't wait to try out 35mm out on the street!!! |
