not really understand how it works.....
It means you have to flash to OpenWrt firmware first on your TL-MR3420 then you can follow the provided guide on how to set it up to be used with UniFi.

If you don't want to mess with OpenWrt, you can either stick with the UniFi provided router or just buy another 3rd party router with UniFi supported out of the box.

Hi there...

1) can give me the roughly price for both router for guideline..
2) can teach me by pm or here how to use this router as torrent donwloader?

really appreciate for ue help..tq
1. RT-N16 is no longer available in the market as ASUS has stopped producing them. You can look for the prices lelong.com.my or lazada.com.my as price references. Things to note: good stuff doesn't come cheap.
2. The downloader is pre-installed in most of ASUS routers.

ASUS Routers with built-in ftp/http/torrent downloader:

External Antennas:
RT-N14UHP
RT-N66U
RT-AC66U
RT-AC68U

Internal Antennas:
RT-N14U
RT-N15U
RT-N56U
RT-N65U
RT-AC56U

After reading some pages here I found that new subscriptions will be provided with L7-N-R2000 Router which has some issues and mediocre lacks custom firmwares when compared to previous D-Link Dir-615.
Anyone please confirm this statement.
It's true. The DIR-615 is much much better than the L7-N-R2000.
I've used both so I do know.
QUOTE(nedunilavan @ Feb 24 2014, 06:23 PM)
Is there any chance TM provides Dir-615 if I call them and ask for it?
No, you will only get the L7 router.

If you want a router with multiple functions, just buy a 3rd party router. smile.gif

Can I use my tplink TL-MR3420 as a replacement router?
Yes, but you'll have to use OpenWrt firmware if you want to use UniFi on that router.
However, you won't be able to use IPTV with that router.

If you wanna use a custom router, you're better off with another 3rd party router such as TP-Link TL-WR1043ND.

After browsing the internet for a while, the wireless signal is suddenly lost and I had to reboot the router in order to gain access again. But I can only browse for a while before the signal is suddenly lost again and I had to reboot it again and again.
Had the same issue with my previous TP-Link TL-WDR4300.
Tried everything such as changing WiFi channel, switching off the 5GHz WiFi, assigning fixed IP, enabling MAC filter, tried WEP/WPA/WPA2 & even tried using OpenWrt firmware, the router still couldn't be saved.
Got fedup after 3 ~ 4 month so I sold the WDR4300 then upgraded to ASUS RT-AC68U, no more problem.

Lesson: You get what you pay for.

Try to use only Channels 1, 6 or 11 and see which works best. Don't ever use any of the ther channels as they overlap and create more problems for you. I have made the same mistake and once I change to use either one of these 3 channels, the wireless signal improves a lot in terms of stability & less inteference.
Nahh, that doesn't work.
When I was using the WDR4300, I tried all the channel available, still the router would lost signal then hang & had to reboot to make it work again.

Not going to buy TP-Link devices again.

Finally I decided to switch back to my previous D-Link router. The ping is high, but at least the connection is maintained. Also, ASUS RT-AC68U is freakin expensive..almost RM 700 for a router? Need to wait a few months before I can get that one.  sweat.gif
Save the money bro, the RT-AC68U is 100% worth it with it's extra features.
It may seem expensive at first, but once you bought it, you won't regret it.

You can also get ASUS RT-N66U at RM525 if you think spending RM699 on a router is too much.

If Gigabit LAN is not important to you, you can get ASUS RT-N14UHP for RM249.

TP-Link uses crappy hardware, cheap PCB & rarely update firmware, that's why they're cheap.
Whereas ASUS uses great hardware & regularly updated firmware, that's why they're expensive.

Hi wildwestgoh, thank you for your confirmation. Seems like ping response to several US/UK websites is delayed, streaming Youtube and playing online games (Steam Games) is not a problem. Maybe one of the forumer can explained more.

Thank you.
Have you tried restarting the router?

Out of topic.
Just need to clarify/explain - which is better streamyx 8mbps or unifi vip5?
My condo has both. Does the lesser streamyx upload (512 kbps) will affect much?? Mostly will be doing web browsing, social networking, and torrent 720p/1080p. It (the connection) will be shares by 3-4 devices at one time.
Thanks for opinion, not a techy guy 😀
UniFi.

Upgrade your router / residential gateway to ASUS RT-N14UHP then you'll see the WiFi coverage improves a lot.

is Asus RT-N14U ok? biggrin.gif
ASUS RT-N14U is a router with non-upgradeable internal antennas.
Don't expect much from routers with internal antennas.

Use the current router you're using until you've saved enough money for the RT-N14UHP.

Hi guys, need recommendation on unifi router, suspected mine gone cuckoo already.

Budget ranged from RM100-RM200, currently staying in condo. Currently running on TM stock modem and router (the black one).
If you're willing to add extra bucks to your RM200 budget, get ASUS RT-N14UHP. Very stable & reliable.
But if you're not, get TP-Link TL-WR1043ND.

Do you know how much is RT-N14UHP? I plan to upgrade to it from my RT-N12HP. NEED ULTRA WIDE RANGE WIFI FOR MY DOUBLE STOREY HOUSE!
If you're going to upgrade, do a real upgrade.
Going from RT-N12HP to RT-N14UHP is not really an upgrade.

Use the RT-N12HP for a few extra month, save more money & go straight to RT-AC68U. Now that's a real upgrade.
