depends on who u ask. officially RSN says aster missiles without naming the model.

Jane's initially reported as aster-15 only based on photos of the launcher (sylver a43).
now they say it could be a different launcher (a50) that is aster-30 capable.

Defense Tech journal says its aster-30. (pg 45)

If MICA VL so good why is it that none of the French Navy ships use them nor planned to be used in their new ships of ALL Classes and Dimensions? French Air Force and Navy  use the air launch version 1 - 80 km !
*
iianm the mica vl launcher can also fire the aster 15.

then its understandable if we choose mica. Maybe people expect more since the price of single frigate quite high

then this role engaging enemy aircraft are solely the airforce which why mrca come to mind. Now i understand haha

for 1+ billion/ship, we should be getting better stuff.

SIGH .....Why Bother ?

In the United Kingdom, systems represent the biggest percentage of the price of a warship  70% compared to 30% for the hull.

The same trend holds true in Australia where the costs are 33% for “platform design, hull, machinery, and equipment” versus 41% for combat systems. Logistical support and training and project management make up the remaining costs.

At the end the Australian Cost mimics the UK costs.

Source : RAND Corporation’s 2006 study “Why Has the Cost of Navy Ships Risen?

http://www.navalreview.ca/wp-content/uploa...ol8num4art6.pdf

We are more than likely to be looking at cost over runs in the future factoring in Inflation, Cost of Material (10 year development of the SGPV ), Currency Fluctuation, Project Management ,TOT/IP...... OH... JUST CONJECTURE AND JUST TROLLING !

we're paying frigate-level money for a (large) PV.

Lets call a SPADE A SPADE....in ( Dimension, Size, CMS, Sensors, Weapons and Capability ) ... Lekiu's are Light Frigates, Kasturi's are Light Frigates, NGPV's FFBNW are Light Frigates (once fitted they mimic the capabilities of a frigate and not a patrol vessel ) , the SGPV are Light frigates.

a light frigate with weapons better suited for a large PV.

solly no understandling ! Jokes aside ...each class is pretty well armed (except for the NGPV - weapons wise and its speed only ) but they all lack CIW's. And no one considers all these ships as OPV's or Corvettes but as  VERY CAPABLE Light Frigates.
*
sgpv closer to corvette than light frigate.
heck, even dcns calls them corvettes.

makan angin on the FCU with our tour guide, who gave more info on the RSS Endurance:
The original RSS Endurance was bought 2nd hand from US (USS Holmes County) in 1975 for the earth-shattering amount of... 1 USD.
USS Holmes County was built in 1944 and saw service in ww2, korea and vietnam.
The current RSS Endurance was built in 1998 by ST Marine in jurong + 3 other sister ships + 1 for thai navy.
they are the largest ship in RSN (141m long, 6500-8500 tons displacement) and well armed (76mm gun, 2x 25mm bushmaster on typhoon platform, 4x 50 cal MG, 2x mistral AA).

No idea what you mean.... but i think that logically that if, God forbid, a war was to break out involving China then its of the utmost practicality that the US gets bases or staging areas which are more secure than the current ones in South Korea and Japan. The Philippines and Vietnam (they offered the use of Cam Ranh Base ) are too close to China for comfort.

The only other logical place would be Singapore, Indonesia or Malaysia, and out of the three Indonesia is the most strategic as by basing in Indonesia together with India they can effectively  "police" the eastern Indian Ocean and Bay of Bengal and to blockade the Malacca, Sunda and Lombok Straits.
*
Fat Leonard's recent case.

the question is: would Indonesia cooperate with the americans?

I think that's where Singapore, Thailand  and Malaysia comes into the picture.
- Thailand for the Eastern side of SCS, Sepanggar for Western side of SCS
- Malaysia / Singapore Straits of Melaka
- Singapore  - Sunda Straits  or even Australia from Christmas Island
- Thailand - Bay of Bengal , Straits of Melaka

Which leaves just the Lombok Straits unprotected ( Christmas Islands to fr away from Lombok ) . The US and India can police  Eastern the Indian Ocean under a different arrangement.
*
there was a report, i think from the ozzies on the US a2/ad and AirSea battle doctrine which stated that the only "true" allies the americans can count on in asia-pac are the japs, skoreans and ozzies.
the rest... whistling.gif
