I can't wait so i modded it last night. not a major mod though, i only got a chance to change the X-over caps and the amp power supply cap.
results:
have not fully burn-in yet, think it'll be even better after burn-in period.
Tweeter sounds less “ear hurting” and more accurate response.
Midrange, slight improvement. i think i can live with it.  whistling.gif

change the stock ST4558C opamp for satellite if you wish, i think you will get major improvement.

i thought bout changing the opamps but I don’t want to take the chances of destroying the board since I don’t have the proper de-soldering equipment. so i decided to chance my sound card opamp instead  biggrin.gif  maybe getting the LME49720NA.

What sound card you are using?

IMHO there is no perfect speaker in market. Depends on your taste. Some people said their speaker sound so good and kicking their ass. At the same time modified them like hell. From Xcover to IC. Its up to peoples how to define word in their mind. For me a very good quality speaker sound amazing in all original spec and component.

Just a quick note here biggrin.gif

Bought both a Altec Lansing FX4021 and then later bought an Edifier S330 for a second computer of mine.

Took a listen to both of them side by side and the Altec Lansing's reproduction was clearer and could go up louder without the sound quality going down. Considering both are in the same price range (RM400+) and the FX4021 comes with a wireless remote, I would say the Altec Lansing wins hands down especially with the simpler cabling (no clips kthx) and the SFX features.

The midrange does seem a bit weak though on the Altec.

Not to say that the Edifier was bad but it was just not really of the same quality as the Altec Lansing in my opinon.
*
Let say in this way, quality are the same for both...only different ppl different taste. smile.gif

when i listening to fish leong songs, her voice suddenly too sharp or the guitar sound, sometimes very sharp.
*
this is about treble, MX5021 suffer high pitch in the 3k-8khz range, so tune down slider of ur EQ in this range might solve the problem. Before that, make sure you not boost the treble too high on the speaker controller.

Some more certain Fish Leong's song sharp in vocal, try the other songs, sometimes when you tune EQ too specific according to particular song is not a good thing, because may affect others songs.

u like it then fine, but no need to exaggerate as if you have the best ear what so ever.

u can support, but not brainwash people to buy altec lansing. the way i saw your posts, it all look like propaganda.
learn to post properly then more people respect you.

personally for me, altec is fine, just that i prefer others.  whistling.gif  whistling.gif

laugh.gif the matter is not bassy or not. the bad thing about M3300 sub is that its too muddy, just like the case with X300 and MP300.
lack of subwoofer crossover may be one. second is because lack of power. if u heard E3100, its much refined in the bass dept. but lacking of clarity.

i try bypassing subwoofer crossover in the klipsch gmx, it sounds as muddy as M3300, but then still sounds better because of the power...
anyway i think im gonna sell my gmx. doh.gif
*
a lot of entry level speakers has the same problem...the sub freq response is at the high range, 70-300hz, at this point the satellite also could produce the range from 100hz and up, thats why the bass seems can't separate from the satellite and made the sound 'muddy'.

well this is normal perception for majority of forumers, normal/old batch/1st batch better than redesign/2nd batch because redesign/2nd batch = cut cost, although i'm not totally agree on that. tongue.gif

p/s : Anyone experience that your controller is abit odd? The volume is not increase/decrease slowly when u turn.
The volume just "jump" way too far when u turning the controller..anyone experience it?

The volume increase/decrease/'jump' in every 3 steps...same for the bass and treble setting...

Honestly no offense, but i adi know the sound is 'fail' once i saw only...down firing midrange is wrong design, but they seems very proud of it, 'mid-range drivers that blast sound waves onto a hard surface, where they are reflected and evenly distributed throughout your room', how hard the surface needed? as hard as their COCK...

try 'filtering' the power supply with avr. but some speakers' power supply is really sensitive. especially the classic transformer type. toroidal transformer hum less imo, and switching doesn't really hiss. although some ppl said switching is not good for music.
*
FYI, the hissing sound is caused by the amplifier gain and impedance matching problem due to design fault. So add any 'filter' or AVR before power supply line is useless.

hey guys

have MX6021 now.. but i feel the sound straight-out from my lappy is just below satisfying.. is there any way to boost the SQ further?

i know it has built in amp.. so is investing in DAC a good choice?? if so, which do u guys recommend?
*
Mind to elaborate more? Not satisfying about details or other such as bass, treble and midrange?

Anyway, how much you bought it?

I owned a MX5021, and now i adi loss interesting on any speaker come out from Altec Lansing, due to its design, i don't have confident at all it will sounds good. I search alot of review for MX6021, not so good.

bought at RM730.. from ban leong

well.. i have same thought with you.. the design just don't give me enough confident over its performance.. but this MX6021 caught my eyes

volume knob has 7 levels, once i turn it above 5.. the bass starting to have distortion.. this is what i couldn't accept.. and i wish to improve the bass a lil.. i believe the potential is there, just need smtng to drive it better.. i guess is the lousy sound card from my Asus laptop.. that's why i thought of trying out some usb DAC

treble and midrange are quite good.. but nothing to shout about..
*
No, based on the user reviews on the net, the main problem is the bass starting to have distortion like in your case, no way to improve, this is not the source problem, since ur source volume was fixed in ur case.

Distortion mainly due to 1) the driver itself can't cope with high power from the amp 2) the amplifier saturate at high volume.
