Dear all, seems my budget for a dashcam is pretty small compared to all taiko here..

I;m only willing to spend below RM200, whats a decent unit for that price range?

One thing i am curious is how the power cabling gonna be? Everyone running it off the cigarette socket?
*
There are few ways one could power the camera;
1) From your vehicle's cigarette lighter (cons- you cant use it to charge your devices)
2) Using a aftermarket multiple outlet cigarette socket (cons- looks ugly as hell, plus additional power draw from the sole socket)
3) Utilize a unused socket in your fuse box (either always on or ignition-up to u)

Personally I only have the G1W-C which comes with a very generously long power cable, which I route along the top of the windscree, down behind the A pillar, inside the weather stripping around the door (in my case, behind the weather strip there is a lot of open space so no chafing would occur), under the glove compartment and into the cigarette socket.

Will be splicing into the fuse box after I finalize the routing & camera settings as I just got the camera.

if put in the car, maybe will be stolen like smart tag device.

thanks!

Most if not all dashcams will have a mount which you can disconnect the camera from. Age of rule still applies, dont leave valuables in plain sight.

Still hesitating whether to buy the GW1-CB coz worry will attract theft attention. Initially plan to mount it on the rear mirror as i do not want to damage my tint. But i cancelled the order. Do you guys hide the dash cam or leave it on?
*
The camera can dismount from the mount effortlessly, just remove it when you've parked your car in public. I dont understand some peoples big concern if its "stealth" or not.

I just remove it and but take the memory card with my as the last thing you want is the alleged thief having a video recording of where you came from (eg, your home).

Mine was under direct noon sunlight, no tinting..the clear plastic covering the screen deformed. Thankfully the screen itself is set inside the unit, thus it still displays fine.

Hi, I saw Gearbest selling G1w-CB for around RM18x after convert.
*
I'm satisfied with it considering its price to performance/features, low light is grainy but I expected that from reading the reviews.

Is there a wireless type? saw the wire dangling in my friend's car
*
Most of not all dashcams do require a power source for continuous recording as the battery packs are usually really small and really crap. Else other models are capacitor based and will stop recording after a power source is unplugged so it can finish saving the video file.

and should i go for 16 or 32gb?

Ofcourse go with the largest capacity that your cam can accept, then by how much you willing to pay for the card.

waiting for my G1W-CB to arrive...now at Kastam KLIA....anyone using this. How to hide it stealthly
*
Best place is behind the rear view mirror, if you have a dark sunshade strip across your windscreen that will help make it less conspicuous. As for power, I run the cable up along the gap between the windscreen & headliner, down behind the A-pillar cover and into the inside weatherstrip beside the dash and either to the fuse box or direct to cigarette lighter.

Hi all, i would like to purchase a G1WH from gearbest but it doesn't come with bracket and car charger. So can i use the normal car usb adapter instead?
*
I hope you got a discount for that..because that is an incomplete package.

QUOTE(kitkat @ Nov 27 2015, 05:58 PM)
and, and u should consider purchase the mirror hook socket.
*
Only if your rear view mirror is compatible, mine is a rectangle with increasing width does not work with that mount.

Then end of the month, based on views/favs/likes, the most popular video gets featured as Moron of the Month.

Mijia dashcam is nice too but if heat is your concern then better choose dashcam that is using a capacitor and not lithium battery.
*
Since you mentioned it, what are the most common capacitor models? Beside the G1W?

Hi guys, I’m looking for car dashcam with budget around RM200-300. Have been looking on taobao and found a few that seems quite nice: ddpai, 360, and xiaoyi. But not sure which is actually better or are there better ones out there in the market...

Recommendations are welcomed. 😁
Thanks!!!
*
Recently did some research on models <300, & non-sticky tape type, seems like the Mijia dashcam seems to fit that 2 criteria while being a reputable brand.

Personally I use G1W (since 2014), unfortunately the plastic screen cover warped in the heat one day.

Yeah, I did see mijia dashcam on taobao too. But it seems to be quite similar to xiaoyi. That’s why I’m having a difficult time distinguishing their differences and making my choice.
Geez, the warping of plastic screen cover is exactly what I’m afraid of, when my car is parked outdoor during office hour.
Thanks for the info yea!
*
I believe both company are similar, but they split up or some shit.

As for parking outdoors whole day, it would still be better to remove the dashcam during those 8hours, at least for safety, peace of mind, and longevity of the device.

Mijia dashcam owners, recently purchased unit had a weird issue where by it would reset when power is turned off (time/date reset too). The issue was repeatable, still trying to contact the seller (in Lazada). Just asking if any other had this issue with their unit?

QUOTE(watabakiu @ Oct 12 2017, 09:27 PM)
how does the storage works? IIRC, the videos are saved in SD Card. But whenever the storage is full, have to delete it, only then can capture new videos, or can overwrite older videos automatically?
*
Most, if not all reputable dashcams have the file override turned on by default.

I say most due to a friend purchased a cheapo RM100+ unit with crap video quality & no override.

blackvue apps cannot join movie

Sorry, I am not familiar with blkacvue app. But if it is conventional video format (with the P&P hard coded), then should be no prob, or export it from the app to conventional video format (mp4,mpg,etc)

Hi guys, any decent dash cam can recommend me? Less than RM150 would be ideal. Thanks!

Remember, the cam is there to capture crucial events/moments. No point having it there but failing to perform because you skipped on it.
