a mention of budget would also be a good idea next time

Appreciate the link.

No budget set 'cos I'm kinda new to this so not quite sure how much would it cost to get a reasonably priced one with features (then also not quite sure what features are good too rclxub.gif )

I'm using the A118 (left-most in the pic above)
while mAdMan's recommendation (mini 0803) is the 2nd one from the left.
Take your pick!

Mini0803 looks small and good.
Will definitely check it out.

Thanks again!

hi guys. the thread is too long and I admit I didnt read all the posts.
But if I'm trying to get a recorder that is rm300 range, which is the best buy?
my requirements are:
- wide angle
- can record even when car is OFF (example in car park the car reversed into my car)
- decent quality for insurance claims (able to see reg. numbers clearly)

thank you!

within ur budget... G1WH...can get with 32gb card from foxoffer.com.

-yes wide angle
-u want it to continuously record non stop even when car is off? dont think any DVRs can do that... unless u do special direct to battery wiring....coz when u off ur car.. ur ciggie lighter port is also off... and this mod will drain ur battery...there is a motion sensor... but imho thats useless....DVR batteries typically doesnt last long at all... coz they are mainly meant to be used with the charger continuously.
-yup..able to see clearly when recorded at 1080p.

Hi. It is possible for you to continue recording even when the car is off. Refer to this link, its called car camera hardwire kit. For instance this is for 0803 model. Not sure if its compatible with G1WH but i think it might work since it uses the micro usb port from the dvr and connects directly to the car battery. Hope this helps. biggrin.gif

If you guys wanted to test out dashcams before buying, i suggest you walk into Brother's at Kelana Jaya. That's the only outlet with huge amount of choices... so far.

Last time I went in but didn't have a good look at their dashcams. Will pop-in again this week and have a good look, probably getting a few for my other cars. Hopefully they sell 0803.

I wanted the same thing that you wanted, to continue recording after the car is off. I slowly realize that the battery inside the camera are meant for emergency saving of files in event of accidents, or after we turn off our car electrical system. They are tiny batteries and not meant for off-charge recording. So for this to work, we have to rewire the power source so that power comes directly from the battery to the camera. But remember to use 4v and not the 12v from the battery! Also, this is only a good idea if only you do not leave the car in an off state for too long, bcause the camera, although using only small amount of power, will also slowly drain your car battery!

Well the Mini is quite new in the market but from what I can see, the specs and video quality seems good.

http://www.techmoan.com/blog/2014/6/15/min...h-a-screen.html
http://dashboardcamerareviews.com/mini-0803/

So far everybody giving it positive reviews.

Oh and by the way, i bought a G1WC with 32gb card from Foxoffer for my mom. Chose the capacitor model as I realised dashcams with built in batteries are utter crap in our crazy hot climate. My own personal G9000 dashcam with built-in battery now sometimes have problem like turning itself off while driving(fixable by removing and inserting the power again), auto-shutdown upon car power off sometimes is not complete(battery capacity degrade) and the battery life fell from 5-10 minutes, to 10-15 seconds from a full charge rclxub.gif

Now I wonder is it possible to convert my battery to supercaps hmm.gif

Guys, plan to get myself a in car dvr, but there are few things that I'm not so clear yet...

1. NTK 96650 + AR0330 seems like a good combo base on most review from the net. But what if NTK 96650 + 3mp / 5mp / others, will it affect the performance of the dvr in terms of video quality?

2. Between Novotek and Ambarella, which one is more recommended? Any pro and con?

3. As per foxoffer.com, whats the difference between :

a) Six-Element Sharp Lens
b) A+ grade high-resolution wide angle lens

4. Since there are 120/140/170 degree, which one is more recommended?

5. Due to Malaysia hot weather, is it recommend to let the dvr left on the windscreen all the time? (assuming the car is park mostly at outdoor) Will it affect the internal battery?

6. Is the internal battery replacable if there is any defect? Or just leave it there since we can use power from the car charger?

7. My windscreen has about 1/5 tinted with black film, if I place the dvr there, will it affect the outcome during day & night view?

Between these few models, which one is the most recommended one if my budget is below rm300.

i) GT680W

ii) G30

iii) Mini 0803

iv) Andonstar

Hi guys,

If i wanted to install recorder both front and back and have it routed directly to car electrical circuit instead of plugging in socket, is that possible without voiding warranty?
