Hi all, I'm looking for a laptop as detailed below:

1. Preferred Brand: Dell, Asus, HP or Toshiba
2. Budget: Around RM2.5k. Max is 3k
3. Usage: Mostly work, emails, documents, excel, Internet surfing and occasionally to watch movies. Something with a decent graphic card.
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: Since I'm using it for work, I need something not too bulky. Around 15" screen would do.

A must for me is that windows 7 be installed on the laptop. I don't intend to use windows 8 yet.

Any recommendations? smile.gif

Thanks for your recommendation.
However, I am trying to look for a package that has Windows 7 installed.

Any recommendations? As I see the one that you recommend above is running Windows 8 instead of 7.

Hi all.

Need your opinion on the 2 shortlisted laptops I plan to buy.

1. Dell Vostro 5470
2. Lennovo E431

Basically I need something that runs windows 7. Mostly for work and movies.

Or is there anything else that I should consider?

Appreciate the advice.
Thanks.

Do you intend to install W7 yourself? hmm.gif
In terms of built and quality, I would prefer the Lenovo overl. But in terms of warranty support, Dell is better (if covered)  hmm.gif
Tough pick

I checked with Dell in low yat plaza last week. Apparently they can sell me a DOS version of the 5470 and install a Windows 7 OS which I purchase from them.
Warrenty wise is still the same.

Dell Vostro 5470 don't have spec that come with W7.
That left you only with:
ThinkPad Edge E431, i5-3230M + Intel HD4000@RM2589[2.15kg], 4GB, 1TB, W7P/W8P, anti-glare
Make sure you upgrade to 3 years on site warranty.

May also consider:

Asus (according to sifus, apparently Asus Malaysia is setting up on site support team for its PRO series. Please check with re-sellers. Without on site support, not suitable for "work" purpose)
PRO45VJ-V0047X, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT635M@RM2399[2.4kg], 4GB, 500GB, W7P
PRO45VJ-V0056X, i3-3120M +Intel HD4000@RM1999[2.4kg], 4GB, 500GB, W7P

HP
ProBook 4440s, i5-3210M + Intel HD4000@RM2549, 4GB, 500GB(7200rpm), W7P, anti-glare

Dell (we don't have the price list, but I know it is priced competitively vs Thinkpad Edge)
Latitude 14 3000

Prices are RSP, negotiable.

Is the 4th gen Intel processor in the Dell much better than the 3rd gen processor on the Lenovo? Where can I get the E431 in low yat plaza?

Hi all, in my search for Lenovo E431, I stumbled upon another model. The Lenovo V480.

Its running almost the same specs as the E431.

Any comments or experience with this particular model? Is it better or at least on par with the E431?

V480, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT740M@RM2305, 4GB,500GB(5400rpm), W7P
ThinkPad Edge E431, i5-3230M + Intel HD4000@RM2589[2.15kg], 4GB, 1TB, W7P/W8P, anti-glare

spec wise, the V480 actually has a more powerful GPU smile.gif
but on build quality, E431 / E430 win. You will notice it once you compare them side by side tongue.gif (try twisting the laptops)

How old is this V480 model? Is it an old model from Lenovo? Because I checked on Lenovo Malaysia website and the model isn't listed there.

Also dropped by the Lenovo shop in low yat plaza and the sales lady said that the V480 is an old out of stock model.

Btw, for the extended on site warranty, can I purchase it online? I asked another shop in low yat plaza and the guy there said I needed to purchase the extended warranty online.

not that old, I think have been in market for about 1 year  hmm.gif If you decide to go for it, just make sure you get brand new sealed unit.

For Lenovo consumer line laptop (I think V480 is consumer line smile.gif ), normally the re-seller can arrange to buy the on site warranty extension for you, but you have to register online (a code will be provide to you to register online). Upon registration, normally you will be requested to send a scanned copy of your purchase receipt from the re-sellers through email, so that Lenovo can start the warranty from the date on the receipt.

Thanks man. Really appreciate your advice smile.gif

Edit: How much is the price of the V480 in the market now?
