My company Toshiba L310 is dying and my boss gave me a very limited budget to buy a new one. I travel 2-3 times per month with laptop (~3.5kg with bag/ power adaptor) +projector (~3kg with bag/cords) + hand carry luggage (~6kg).
1. Preferred Brand: Toshiba, Asus, Lenovo
2. Budget: <RM2200
3. Usage: basic office applications. Simple video editing with Sony Vegas (1024x720 mpg, clips from Sony Standard Definition viewcam)
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 13-14"
5. Weight: <=2kg
6. Others: must have VGA port to connect projector (or HDMI-VGA adaptor), Optical drive optional
I understand that ultrabook is a big no no for video editing BUT I've been editing video (non-HD) using the 4 years old Toshiba and I'm fine with the performance. If the ULV processor (e.g. i5-3317U, i5-3337U, i5-4200u) can perform better than T2370 in L310, then I will choose ultrabook to lighten my burden on shoulder/ for better battery life.
Another difficult question: will a discrete graphic card like Nvidia GT630M found in Satellite U940-1001X OR AMD HD7570M found in Satellite U840-1009X improve video editing performance? From what I read, processor speed & RAM are more important but there are comments saying that NVIDIA card with CUDA technology greatly enhance video editing performance. I'm confused.
