Sifus, my friend is eyeing on both the Asus S551LB and N550JV both of the i7 version.

Just want to confirm with the sifus here, the S551LB is using the Intel® Core™ i7-4500U Processor while the N550JV is using the Intel® Core™ i7-4702MQ Processor. So this means that the N550JV is the one with an actual quad core processor right? The S551LB is just a dual core right since the prefix of the model of the processor is U?

Both of the laptops on i7 are in the range of 3.5k. Both is quite similar. The only major difference i see is the graphic card, N550JV is on GT750m while S551LB is on GT740m. And the N550JV having 3 usb 3.0 port while S551LB only has 2.

So sifus, which is actually a better choice between these two? My friend does some programming, mainly using Eclipse and occasionally plays Diablo 3 and Dota 2.

Please help me to advice him which 1 is better. icon_rolleyes.gif

I'm assuming you are comparing between these two laugh.gif
15.6"
Asus
S551LB-CJ075H, i7-4500U + Nvidia GT740M + 24GB mSATA + 1TB + (1366x768;touch)@RM3399[2.4kg], 8GB, W8, 3-cell

N550JV-CN077H, i7-4700HQ + Nvidia GT750M + (1920x1080; IPS matte)@RM3699[2.7kg], 4GB, 1TB, W8, backlit keyboard

*not sure the i7 in the N550 is i7-4700MQ or i7-4700HQ (the specs in the Asus product catalog is contradictory)

One is more geared towards portability (S551), the other one performance (N550).
If your friend doesn't need anything super light in particular, then the N550 is the better choice, with a more powerful quad core CPU, GPU, screen and dual fans (iinm).
Can always upgrade to 8GB RAM and SSD later on  laugh.gif

Yup. Comparing these 2 laptops. hmm.gif I checked the Asus website, both just 0.2 kg difference iinm. And may I know the diffence between HQ and MQ prefix in the processor model? blink.gif

Points to tell my friend.
1) The touch screen of S551LB is not needed in his case.
2) Although both i7, but N550VJ is the true quad core.
Will try to advise him again later.
Thanks sifus! icon_rolleyes.gif

MSI GE60-2oc
-Intel® Core™ i5-4200M (2.5GHz, max. boost up to 3.1 GHz, 3MB L3 Cache)
-NVIDIA® GeForce® Fermi GT750M 2GB GDDR5
-8GB DDR3 (2 x 4GB DDR3)

Lenovo Y510p
- Intel® Core™ i7-4700 MQ (2.4Ghz, max boost up to 3.4GHz)
- NVIDIA® GeForce® GT750M 2GB DDR 5
- 8GB DDR3 ( 1 x 8GB DDR3)

Sifus, between these 2 laptops. In terms of gaming, which has the better performance? Why MSI's Nvidia graphic card got the word Fermi? What does it means?

Between these 2, in terms of gaming and cooling system (heat dissipation), which 1 does sifus recommend?

Can't seem to find any website to compare these 2 laptops. icon_rolleyes.gif

Don't know if I'm asking at the right place. But when will Lenovo start selling the Z510 i7 variant locally?

the best i7 ULV you can get at the moment is i7-4500U.
there is no such processor, i7-4702U in Haswell lineup. so it is confirmed either i7-4702HQ/MQ

to add, i7-4702MQ/HQ is an undervolted version of i7-4700MQ/HQ
*
Meaning that Z510 i7 variant will mostly be i7-4702HQ/MQ... with HQ and MQ prefix it means at it is quad core right? Just maybe lower Ghz since it is undervolted. Am I right? Currently eyeing on Asus S551LB and Lenovo Z510. Design wise quiet similar. But Z510's variant of i7 is cheaper than S551LB's.

yes, with the prefix it could be either one of the quad core varieties.

but FYI, the S551LB comes with i7-4500U, extra 24GB mSATA and a touch screen. this laptop is more weaker than the Z510.

Yup. Paying more for dual core only. doh.gif But maybe it's battery has longer battery life due to it's dual core compare to Z510. Thanks sifu. I'll continue with my research. brows.gif
