All sifu,

Went to have a look at both Asus X201e, Acer V5 and Lenovo S300.

In term of spec more or less than same on processor.

Really impressed by Lenovo S300, despite been 13 inch still the weight feel almost similar to holding the Asus X201e.

I suppose in term of after sales Lenovo is the one to go for? Some shop don't carry the S300 anymore because it is an 'old' model blink.gif

After a day in lowyat, i understand the miserable most people who are not exposed to forum felt.

The aim was to source for best deal on Lenovo S300 - 1007u spec. End up none carry and they are selling the Pentium 997 spec.

Fyi 1007u spec RM1099 on Lenovo brochure, best price i was offer for P997 spec - RM1400. Both inclusive of Window 8.

Best part was there's this guys selling Lenovo notebooks on the center area of Lowyat - I ask for S300 - the response is i should go for G405 (Remind me so much of someone here sharing his story about this). Turn me off immediately!

Now looking at the older spec of Vostro 5460 as the price is slight upgrade over the S300 but with I3. wink.gif

Sorry that you have to went through all that. But I'm glad to know that you didn't fell for their tricks icon_rolleyes.gif
Do take note that the Vostro 5460 has a pretty weak WiFi card ya, will be a problem if the router is far away.
Though there was a case that a customer managed to ask Dell to replace it with a Realtek WiFi card which solved the problem instantly icon_rolleyes.gif

i know more as you guys share alot here notworthy.gif

Yeah, some of the sifus here are really, really pro  thumbup.gif

Yeah, just one at the moment. I'm helping my friend to "fix" hers as well laugh.gif
Will update if it works~

Otherwise, perhaps can consider the 5470? Or perhaps other brands?  hmm.gif

budget is the issue, just want something that is slight more than 1k. Earlier model considered was Lenovo S300 with Window which is expected to be about 1k mark.

The older spec of 5460 with I3-3110 fits in perfectly. That is if i can still find any.

Want it light and fit slight more than 1k budget is tough biggrin.gif

i am wondering if 6 cell battery offer longer battery life than 4 cell?

thanks for your recommendations, but i found difficulties after you recommendations, that is i can't found any review about the laptops and even tech specs of lenovo models~  ohmy.gif even though i found it in the computer shop, but no brochure for reference too. what can i do if i want to do comparisons for these laptops?

would you recommend Lenovo Z400 touch, Z500 touch, G400s and Z480 for my usage? since these models are still within my budget. thanks. biggrin.gif

Have a walk around Lowyat / IT mall and check what they have commonly available then only make comparison. Else you will be confused and helpless on the spot.

Lightweight (< 1.6kg) and detachable battery normally don't come together for new models  hmm.gif
Need to find some old design 11", eg:

Lenovo
ThinkPad Edge E120, i3-2357UM + Intel HD3000@RM1999[1.5kg],W7HP, water resistant keyboard

Forget about detachable battery lah. With your usage, unless the laptop really has lousy thermal design, it will not heat up much. And no matter what you do, Li-ion battery probably will give you 3 years of service anyway tongue.gif

The uncertainty over the battery is the cost to replace

Friend of mine using Vostro V130, guess how much Dell quoted for replacing the battery? She is in dilemma because the unit still has Dell warranty but the battery has none. Open up the unit = warranty void?

it will be RM200 if im not mistaken.

for warranty void part, doesn't apply if you take care of the part removal process. even the technicians also dont know that you did opened up the unit if you do it carefully.

slim Li-Ion batteries are very expensive. thats why you cant argue over that. with a laptop weigh less than 1.6kg, none of them has a battery latch for user replaceable batteries (especially ultrabooks). so normally I will suggest peoples to provide good ventilation for their laptop (heat is an enemy to Li-Ion batteries) and most importantly, dont use the battery less than 30% of the battery gauge. Li-Ion batteries are subjected to wear and tear, so to avoid costly battery replacements, it is better to take care of batteries rather than have availability to replace it.

i dont know the.difference on battery for both v130 and 5460...dell quoted rm330+rm144  for replacement on v130
