brand- no preference
budget - lesser better <2000
specs- unsure but must be able to run matlab, visual basic, solidworks.
- good battery life approx 5hours+

screen size - 13.3 or lesser. max 14inch
weight- approx 1.5kg

Don't think there is any that fits your requirements. Performance/battery life and weight don't come together with good price laugh.gif

Closest would be this one, ignoring the battery life requirement:
14"
Dell Vostro 5470, i3-4010U + Intel HD4400@RM1899, 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8, 3-cell

Brand: Asus, but willing to budge to get the best value.
Budget: 2k - 2.5k. Cud go over by a few hundreds. The lower the better
Usage: big dragon age fan. Looking forward to inquisition. So spec wise mite be based on the game. They use frostbite 3 engine same as battlefield 4. So i'm using BF4 as indicator. Means minimum and recommended requirements are as the link below.
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-09-...specs-confirmed
If u can get as close to the recommended specs eithin the price range, wud be awesome!
Screen size: i guess 15" wud be good.

Sorry for the long post. But i truly appreciate ur time n effort in this. Its coz of u guys this community is so well versed in techs n all. Thank you! biggrin.gif

Hi there,

I am a looking for a computer to do office jobs mostly and for music and movies.

I would like to know is it better for me to choose macbook air 11/13 inch or the dell/asus/lenovo type of notebook? Critically need advise.

I thought of mac cz its light and I carry it to wrk daily. Other lappy is wider as I can choose 15.6inch screen.
*
It all depends on what your friends/ work colleagues are using I suppose?
As based on what I've seen, things often go out of place when you transfer documents in between Office of Windows and Mac vice versa hmm.gif

If you don't have that problem, then get a Mac, its light, classy, user-friendly and offers long battery lives nod.gif

If you need any recommendations, please follow the format on the 1st page icon_rolleyes.gif

so far only found dell xps 13 n 14 with full hd.

Apart from the AW 14 (which is very expensive), I think most 14" don't have FullHD.
Closest would be this one:
13"
Samsung ATIV Book 7 NP740U3E-X01MY, i5-3337U + AMD HD8570M + 128GB SSD + (1920x1080; touch)@RM3499[1.65kg][JBL], 4GB, W8

If you really want a FullHD notebook within RM3k, perhaps can consider 15 inchers, they are relatively cheaper:

Acer

2) Stream videos quickly

3) Access to Internet easily

Assuming you want a 14" notebook, try and look for this one:
Asus VivoBook S400CA-CA006H, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + 24GB mSATA + 500GB + (1366x768; touch)@RM1999[1.76kg], 4GB, W8, 3-cell

Although there are ALOT of other picks for your budget, I'm recommending this one because its pretty much the only one with a built-in mSATA SSD now. THe SSD will give you a huge boost in terms of speed icon_rolleyes.gif

Hi,

I am helping my sister who plans to get a laptop. She's working as a teacher. Could you guys please help to recommend a laptop with the requirements below?

1. Preferred Brand: ASUS or Dell
2. Budget: Below RM3000 (prefers a laptop that can last for a few years without constant upgrade)
3. Usage:
a. Data entry (prefers a laptop with numeric keypad, or is it recommended to buy an external USB numeric keypad instead?)
b. Microsoft Office
c. Internet surfing, emails, Facebook
d. Photo editing software
e. Software for mathematics or data analysis (in case in future there's such software introduced)

4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 15" (if getting an external USB numeric keypad is not recommended), else OK with 14".

Thanks a lot.

I would recommend going for the 14" RM2699 Inspiron 7000 since it comes with an mSATA SSD. Touchscreen is not really needed in a notebook, just a marketing gimmick. As for the numpad, you can always get a GOOD external one, or even an external keyboard haha, not too much of a problem there icon_rolleyes.gif
Use remaining budget to extend warranty to 2-3 years icon_rolleyes.gif

Hi there!

1. Preferred Brand-Doesn't matter! As long as it gets the job done!

2. Budget- RM1.5K

3. Usage- Social Networking, Mild gaming (First Person Shooter games, 3D games, FIFA, GTA), Skype (FRONT CAMERA A MUST HAVE!), Video and photo editing

4. Preferred laptop/screen size- Weight is not an issue,  don't too small la biggrin.gif

How about the following? Just don't expect too much since your budget is a bit tight, expect gaming performance at low settings sad.gif

only 1 waifu lar. laugh.gif
but if RX-17 offers 3D screen, it might be a good choice, as i wanted to play in 120Hz mode, sometimes in 3D.

3D is not viable one la bro laugh.gif
And not everyone is cut out for 3D, some will have headaches and vomits after using 3D for too long haha XD

I also wonder when I can get a new notebook haha laugh.gif
My M14x is still going strong lol~
Maybe will ask putochip123 sifu to help me replace the components so that it can last even longer haha laugh.gif
