Might be possible on a 14" depending on the interiors hmm.gif
You can replace the optical drive with SSD brows.gif

I have just read some warranty claim issues from other forumers. Starting to worry if I would get a grey set from US since s410p touch still very new in Malaysia market which is not even shown in Lenovo Malaysia website. Am I worrying too much? :/ If local set must having 2 years warranty?

If devour, storm88, numbertwo, hikari85 are selling, then get from them. As far as we know, they are all selling official, local units icon_rolleyes.gif
Can't go wrong with that, deal with confidence~ icon_rolleyes.gif

sad.gif how could this happening? so the resellers and end users have to bear the risk of getting grey set? shouldn't Lenovo have some proper regulations on this, so anyone buying its products can have some sort of guarantee?  cry.gif and some local distributors listed in the website are not selling Lenovo products sweat.gif

any other ways to make sure it's local set?

These few sellers here are some of the many that sell only official units. You are not the first buyer from them, and definitely not the last icon_rolleyes.gif

Yeah, can ask sellers for warranty extension. But usually its easier and automatic if you just purchase the notebook and warranty online hmm.gif

biggrin.gif want to ask all experts here, is it worth to get a touchscreen laptop when there is same model non touchscreen laptop? few hundreds ringgit different, thinking maybe can use those saved amounts for other things, but want to try new thing...  laugh.gif so confusing. so may need some opinions here. thanks.
*
Definitely NOT laugh.gif
Touchscreen is only good for mobile devices which are tablet-like or can "convert" into tablets.
Constant "poking" on the notebook screen will only loosen the hinges.. and its not exactly very comfortable anyway, not when a mouse is available laugh.gif

Yes, its always recommended to extend warranty for peace of mind. Try to opt for on-site support if able laugh.gif

How about this one? No FHD though, but plenty of budget left for you to get an SSD? hmm.gif

Dell Inspiron 15R, i7-4500U + AMD HD8850M (GDDR5)@RM2449 [2.32kg], 8GB, 1TB(5400rpm), Ubuntu 12.04 , 6 cell; W8SL@RM2649

The Asus N550 suggested by devour is a pretty good pick as well, though you might have to bargain abit:

Asus N550JV-CN077H, i7-4700HQ + Nvidia GT750M + (1920x1080; IPS matte)@RM3699[2.7kg], 4GB, 1TB, W8, backlit keyboard

*The notebook comes with a powerful CPU and GPU, good screen and dual fan configuration
*But do take note Asus Malaysia's warranty support sucks.

1. Preferred Brand Asus, Acer, Lenovo or any other brand that you think is okay except Dell.
2. Budget 2~3K
3. Usage Streaming , watching movies, playing songs, spotify, engineering programs like matlab, solidwork, autocad and HYSYS, microsoft words, excel, powerpoint, check emails, light gaming, photoshop, illustrator, adobe reader, video editing.

The usage is basically a student that is working part time.

As I am currently studying in Singapore and will be in Singapore for at least 6 more years, I'd like international warranty.
4. Preferred laptop/screen size 14~15", good international warranty, good battery life, able to set up wifi hotspot on its own.

The Illegear offers a hell lot more customization options, do check out their website, you will be surprised and poisoned laugh.gif Go for a mSATA SSD or full SSD upgrade

If you opt for the MSI, use remaining budget to get a 256GB SSD (~RM650) to replace the HDD (can be used as external HDD laugh.gif)

*The illegear may be the cheapest among the bunch, but after you opt for a genuine copy of Windows, it'll be more or less the same.
*Performance-wise, the GT750M SLI tops in gaming, especially when the games are optimized for it

Lenovo (on-site warranty) and Illegear should provide the best in terms of warranty support, but provided you are covered. Might want to consider topping up a bit for the warranty, especially when its a notebook with high-end components which are expensive to replace nod.gif
