An article on fingerprint sensors and security

Fingerprint Sensors to Hit Android This Year; Is It a Good Move?
http://www.androidheadlines.com/2013/09/fi...-good-move.html

....Apple should absolutely not keep a “fingerprint database”. If they need a fingerprint database for this, “they blew it”, as Steve Jobs used to say. After the latest NSA revelations, about how they’re hacking into everything and anything, and with so many other hackers out there waiting to grab a database with tens of millions or hundreds of millions of fingerprints, it’s impossible for Apple to guarantee the security of that fingerprint database. Losing that fingerprint database would be more than catastrophic for the users, which leads me to the second point.

The second problem with fingerprint security is that if someone manages to steal your fingerprint somehow, it’s not like you’ll be able to “change” that fingerprint – .....
.....
I do believe we need to find other alternatives to passwords, but if fingerprints are the alternative, at the very least they should only be kept on the device, locally (and even that can be hacked). Personally, I like the idea of an NFC ring that can be used to unlock everything that’s in your hand or very close to your hand (and it’s yours), and that might be a better solution for the future.......

Seems like crapple has upped the ante...

1. 64bits (not immediately useful)
2. OIS ?
3. Fingerprint scanner

2 and 3 are not revolutionary, but they put it in one device.

1 will really be game changing since it is the start of the wave of real high performance computing in handhelds.

Oh well, since it's the topic du jour.......

Apple officially unveils the iPhone 5s, coming September 20
http://www.gsmarena.com/apple_officially_u...e-news-6765.php

....The camera also comes with new image stabilization, albeit digital one

==========

I suppose digital IS will make good use of the spare CPU power.

Hi all, again, we can discuss other phone features in comparison to Note 3, but be civil, polite, and a good measure of sarcasm is always welcome brows.gif

so, is there gonna be the 'cheap' plastic (aka samsung -- though i have to add that i never personally consider the plastic as 'cheap') vs the 'expensive classy' plastic (aka some fruit)

5s pricing is probably high to recover the r&d costs for the 64 bit cpu but if you look at how intel prices their stuff, new architecture fits in at the same price points of the old architecture while they quickly deprecate the old one.

Maybe they think the faithful will open their mouths wider to swallow a longer register....

Not sure there will be any queue now. The queue for buying high tech stuff will be a memory we cherished as techno buff.
You talk about 64bit only for addressing yesterday.

64 bit architecture is not only for memory address.

iOS7 native code incorporate new 64 bit instruction set. Means, 1 instruction in 64 bit can do 2 things when using 32bit instruction. It will be faster I think. decoding will be faster because 1 clock cycle can decode 2 things. But executing might be same.
*
Err...yes, I do know about the register length etc. Just that RAM addressing is the most visible manifestation, at least where Intel is concerned. I have read that ARM has the extended addressing mode that allows 48bit addressing on current 32bit CPUs, but if we get native 64 bits, then I suppose it makes sense that addressing is also fully 64bits.

The fetch and decode will depend on pipelining etc etc and whole volumes are available on the subject.

However I still think that this is the dawn of 64 bit development for mobile, since the mindset of mobile and low power consumption devices has always been "cram more into as little space (RAM/registers/storage) as possible".

And you have the Arduino etc movement which is doing exactly the same thing of cramming more into a limited computing power device.

Now if 64 bit low power computing is widely available, your fridge can now talk to you and perhaps tell your microwave to preheat stuff before your dinner......imagine Google Now on EVERYTHING.......

well, background service can use slow core while apps can use fast core.

If S800, 2 fast core use for background. Only 2 core used for apps.

I think Exynos will beat S800 by huge margin in multiprocessing.
*
8 cores "in the coming months" if you read the articles carefully. whistling.gif

Maybe they will have a 5425? Or 5520?

Exynos may probably beat Snapdragon in a multithreaded benchmark like linpack but don't know how that translates to a real life experience.

You're not going to type your text 4 times faster or talk at 4x speed.....

Wow, I guess it right that S4 Exynos will be more responsive now. No need to switch thread. just continue using the same thread/core until finish before shutdown.

s4 exynos price will go up soon.  drool.gif

S4 exynos has a borked core cluster controller. It can't perform granular switching.

sorry, I search borked core cluster controller and found nothing.  icon_question.gif

Does the scenario I describe can be considered as granular switching? I thought I say that
a program no need to switch core half way if all 8 cores are activated. So less switching.

Less switching = good = more responsive

S4 Exynos will become faster than Snapdragon version.  rclxms.gif

Search term is cci or cci400 it came out about 2 months ago I think. Exynos 5410 cci.

A couple of articles on sammobile. I posted also in v24 or v25 of note 2 thread.

Hi, joytest, just a suggestion.

I think you shall write Note III as Note 3 as this is current naming by Samsung.

Samsung no longer using Roman numerals.

Changed....you may get your wish to be TS sooner than you expect....it depends on my next assignment.
