yes, like i already mentioned, nothing is free
my interpretation is i get these free gift in return for the money they make out of being a good customer (not really the time i spend on the phone getting the stuff) they don't please me i leave

let's talk more on that statement of yours in bold above smile.gif
in case you had an impression that i write a short essay and try to appeal/convince to them to give me free stuff, then i wish to correct you that that is not the case. nowadays banks have partially good reporting systems that can instantly verify your claims. you just need to tell them within a 5 minute call.

is this 5 minutes too much for you? i think opening a fixed deposit accounts, parking your car, looking thru offers from all banks, trying to convince them to give a better FD rate takes more time. even the online FD application, you need to look thru and cannot do it within 1 minute.

but you may be right, everyone has their manday rate. convert your manday rate to $ per minute rate. do you earn more money or spend more worth it quality time than the amount you save? if you earn RM20 per minute then you are right. i am sorry to say i earn less than rm20 a minute. notworthy.gif i really don't mind spending 5 minutes per request (imagine the hours you're stuck in the traffic jam) and use that money to improve the quality of my life. i want to save more time, but i would rather focus on reducing the amount of time i get stuck in a jam instead. (being pound wise)

If they had such good reporting systems, why didn't they call you instead of wait for you to call them? also maybe you are young, Your manday rate (as you call it) gets more as you get older, everything that is in demand, gets more expensive when there is less of it. I think it is the same with life, when you are young you don't think 5 minutes is worth a lot, but when you know you are likely to be dead in 30 years, all of a sudden you don't want to waste five minutes smile.gif

Or maybe you enjoy getting them to give you stuff.. so it's like "let's see how many things I can get them to give me" lol smile.gif like you said their systems are pretty good, they know if you put in a lot of money, or if you take out a lot of money.. smile.gif you won't even have to call them they will call you smile.gif

You want different things from your bank (ie. free gifts etc.) I want to save time, so I have a bank with a pretty good online system. I actually did switch three FDs in one minute lol smile.gif anyway I just realized that, all that running around is really inconvenient and troublesome. I can't stand to see the look on the teller's face like, "why are you giving me so much work, do you know how busy I am already" lol so I don't like to trouble people for gifts and whatnot, they are quite busy already smile.gif but if they want to give them.. all gladly accepted of course smile.gif

I'd rather save 4 minutes of my time, and 4 minutes of the customer service's time.. you can see how busy they are every time you go to the bank smile.gif

I am interested with this only if it is insured by PIDM. I am curious if we can place it with local bank, since each local bank has their own FD allocation. The centralized bank has to sent notification to each of the local bank to inform them of the special rate. I doubt they would do with only 1 mil allocated fund to push for this special rate.

Actually we'd probably need at least 2mil, but if he can do it with 1mil, so much the better for him smile.gif

First, you can't online transfer RM50k in 1 day. Secondly, it wasn't an eFD, it has to be done over the counter.
*
None of this changes the fact that it's cheaper smile.gif and yes you can transfer 50K or whatever amount in a day. just have to tell them to increase the limit for one day smile.gif

Also he wasn't talking about FDs he was talking about money, which i suppose most people would assume to be in a CASA smile.gif

IGB or over the counter transfer to another bank?

ocbc IGB is 10k/day
*
Yea the online limit is 10K that you can change manually, but some banks if you want the limit to be higher they can change it at the counter. A bit troublesome but then he was talking about cost savings not convenience tongue.gif

Manually means changing the IBG limit thru the branch's counter?
*
Yup.. you can raise/lower the limit for one day same as you can raise/lower your credit card limit for one day smile.gif

Guys, what is the best way to take out money from maybank to put FD in bank rakyat? Carrying cash would not be convenient right ..
*
Bank draft.. but IBG is cheaper and faster if you have savings accounts at both banks smile.gif

Hey brothers, just a quick question. I have a bad habit of over spending on a monthly basis and touching any savings I got so I was thinking of setting up a fix deposit account.

My only question is i know i wont touch the money once i open it so can i do a monthly bank in? Can this be done?

EG

Initial account is opening is 1k.
I always have a surplus from my pay between 500-1k on a montly basis so can i put this inside the account.
*
If you won't need to touch it for a long time you can try a unit trust, or a trust account at a brokerage. The disadvantage is that it's not PIDM insured. Unit trusts are of course serious long-term investments (maybe 10 years tongue.gif) so if you know you won't need it for 10 years, that's a good place for it. Trust accounts are good if you want a high-interest, low-risk account. It's also not PIDM insured, but the interest is around 2.45-2.98% depending on the brokerage, daily interest credited monthly usually. Also if you want to withdraw any amount, there's no penalty. It's just like a savings account with a bit higher risk (it's not PIDM insured) but a lot higher interest (almost as much as 1-month FD.)

You can do monthly bank in of small amounts with either. There's also something called a PRS where you make an agreement with a brokerage, and they will deduct a certain amount every month and put it in a trust fund (sort of like a Private EPF scheme.)
