There is reason why some other willing to put in lower FD rate one, but the target is better service.

Those hassle and time, could be more valuable that extra money (a few 0.x% from FD) that cannot buy.

From my experience, there a few banks always facing offline issue intermittently, while some very rarely occur.

Until now, I still cannot brain that bank running ten or hundred of billions asset, billion of transaction each day, cannot ensure offline issue become minimal. doh.gif

I heard this offline issue from 90's until now, still facing offline issue from time to time, even though technology has advanced so much in the last 10 to 20 years.

While there are banks that I never encounter offline issue before, despite banking with them more than 10+ years.

Need your feedback.

I have one FD due at the end of this month. But I will be away for the Chinese New Year.

Either
a. I withdraw from a bank in another town (is this allowed?)
or
b. I pre-sign and ask the bank to transfer the amount to my saving
account in another bank.

Possible?

Thanks.

Happy, Rewarding  & Prosperous Chinese New Year to all our Chinese colleagues here!

a) it depends on the bank system.
Some don't allow interbranch withdrawal.
Some restrict the amount of interbranch withdrawal
Some are ok, (particularly foreign bank, whereby most of them practice cert-less FD system).

b) As far as I knew, as long as it is own/same account, most doable.

... as far as I know you can't ... they don't even allow within the same city like KL or Selangor even though its from the same bank but different branch ...

It depends on bank system, some can, some can't.

Nope, but protected by EPF.  laugh.gif

100%? Same like PIDM?
*
Shareholders in a sdn bhd, or bhd company are not liable to the liabilities of their company.

So we cannot say it is "protected" by EPF, even although EPF is the largest shareholders of the company.

Here's a HL CNY Open House promotion for deposit and some Horse gold plated figurines thingy: http://www.hlb.com.my/promo/pfs/dep_CNY_op...dex.jsp?s=promo

What do you think of it? It says it'll give you 3.8% on top of the free gifts. I must have missed out on some terms and conditions, lol...cannot be that good.

I do not understand why banks nowadays want to make thing so complicated, sometimes, T&C needs to reread 3x also blur about it.
FD is always simple, how much real effective rate is. That's all!

Tier step up rate, CASA earmarked, investment combination.... doh.gif

I agreed with your statement. Last week HLB's RM tried to sell callable Klibor to me. "Guaranteed" payout of 5.15%, though I told her it cannot be guaranteed but she insist there is no fallout etc etc. Also bond fund which is "guaranteed" payout etc etc. I did not take them up. Still we have to read T & C carefully before we sign up any "offers".  biggrin.gif

How about guaranteed payout, but principal is not guaranteed? tongue.gif laugh.gif

It is impossible to have structured product or any structured product on Klibor that can guarantee some return rate more than OPR or FD rate, while principal amount is intact/guaranteed.

Bond is guaranteed to pay you the coupon yield of it, (as long as they are not defaulted), but bond price in the market is not guaranteed.

Same like stock, most blue chips and dividend stocks consistently pay dividend every year without fail, but stock price is not guaranteed.

Agreed with what you said. I do not want to argue with the RM over the phone since she is the seasoned type and I wanted to save my breadth over the discussion.

From my own experience, many RM out there are not professional enough (some may indeed good, not to say all are the same) and a lot of time lack of proper knowledge in investment field.
An experienced investors/clients may have better knowledge in investment matter compared to them.

Many RM behave like salesman instead of giving proper advice to clients.
In fact, my view, RM just a nice name, in other day, can be called as sales person as well.

My own experience on no less than 5-6 RM I had met.
Only show up when you interested in invest into something that they can earn a commission,
or keep on promoting some product that can earn them a performance boost.

Want to put FD one, then they don't bother, need to do myself. (as no commission on FD deposit) tongue.gif
Want to sign up structured product, buy UT, insurance etc, come to your office, very nice.

RM or no RM, it makes no different at all.

I've no idea about NID either, first time hearing bout it. Does other banks have it?
*
Some 250K,

All banks have it.

QUOTE(Human Nature @ Mar 13 2014, 03:04 PM)
is it covered by PIDM?
*
No.

NID is not a bank FD, technical it is different with FD.
It is more like structured product.

It is like you give bank a sum of money to invest into whatever as pre-determined investment product.

Thanks partly to the people here, Bank Rakyat just declares 15pc dividend. People who funded them gets 4% and shareholders makes 15%.

Can't compare like that.

FD 4%, no matter how the bank is doing, loss or profit, depositors are guaranteed to receive 4%, while shareholders none guaranteed they will receive dividend or not.
