most fan controllers these days are based on voltage reduction... if u can find a PWM based fan controller then should get that... coz it doesnt reduce the voltage... what it does is it sends out 12v on pulses... and ur just controlling the frequency of pulses (which is ALWAYS 12v) so the more frequent the pulse the faster the fan... the slower the pulse the slower the fan.... thinking of whether or not to ask shah81 to help me build the pwm based fan controller...but right now no money... need to pay my CC bills

QUOTE(lolhalol @ Sep 13 2006, 08:16 PM) @madman,, pwm controolers is it hard to build? coz if easy then i can diy.... but wont pulses kill the fan..seems kinda dangerous.... no idea.... i think its best to search for info on the net. i managed to find some here n there but i dunno jack about electronics i think mobo fan controls uses PWM...i think la ...so if its true then it shouldnt be a problem... besides... there are some retail PWM controllers out there...just not easy to find... also it MIGHT be more expensive to build...i think. one advantage of PWM controllers is that it wont produce as much heat as the voltage reduction controllers.

QUOTE(irenic @ Sep 15 2006, 11:16 AM) wah selling ur ninja already.. great cooler la wei btw my suggestion is just dump ur 90mm fan i concur with this suggestion.... helps reduce noise and also helps reduce dust in the case... n more importantly... helps fit ur heatsink.... i suggest getting another piece of acrylic for ur side window with NO blowhole.... but if u itchy wan blowhole then get one acrylic and cut a blowhole for ur GC can always get ianho to do it for u.

u wanna cover??? i suggest keeping the ori acrylic la bro... coz itll look weird with just the blowhole there and no fan.... not to mention itll let dust and other things in too... just go for a new piece and keep the original.... im sure u have some extra money after selling off the ninja

hey guys.... gimme some ideas on what to do with this heatsink from my colorful 9550 which i fried. its a heatpipe heatsink.. take note of the mountings as well..using screws heres a pic of the front (GPU core) (the fan is DEAD by the way) as u can see theres a heatpip which goes back to the card to this heatsink was thinking of using it to replace my NB heatsink but worries about mounting and clearance issues since i already have a 6800 with a zalman cooler on it.... heres a pic of the of the entire rig including the NB and GC cooler...notice how the GC cooler overlaps the NB heatsink any ideas on what i can use the heatsink for??? the thing has been lying around for over half a year doing nothing... so wanna find a use for it

by right copper should work better... but then its a TT product anyway.. care to give the specs of ur fan? i think a 60+cfm fan should be alright... and anyone has any suggestions for the heatsink ive posted above?

not just that la...i dont really wanna mod it as i wanna fully utilize the heatpipe.. and also the HUGE heatsink on the back of the card... right now the only idea i have is to put it on top of muh HDD so that it can cool that down....but im gonna be adding another HDD on the top bay so dunno can fit or not EDIT: copper is good but requires a high CFM fan to really shine... just like the XP90C. i suggest getting a more powerful fan first. as its cheaper than immediately upgrading the heatisnk... if it doesnt work... then upgrade heatsink ad use the new fan with it This post has been edited by mADmAN: Sep 18 2006, 01:10 AM

QUOTE(Kataro @ Feb 8 2007, 12:49 AM) Edited to ask: If I want to load my proc use Prime95, which test should I use? Is it the In-place large FFTs (maximum heat, power consumption, some RAM tested)? For what I know, the Blend test is more for test RAM right? And when wanna get load temp, using Prime95, need to close all background program right such as emule, msn messenger and any others program...? As for idle temp, take after load will be more accurate right? 10 minutes after load enough? or just observe untill get the lowest it can be? Sorry for so many noob question...never load before, so wanna make sure I do the right thing to get the idle and load temp... not sure about Prime 95. but if in SP2004 (which is basically the same thing but diff interface, SP=Stress Prime) it uses Small FFTs to Stress the CPU only. blend would be like the name suggests... a blend of CPU and RAM. Large FFTs would be for ram. u wanna get load temp just run prime. i usually dont bother closing background applications. for idle temp...reviewers usually wait 30 mins for the idle temp to stabilize (after startup/ after stress). then record that temp.

QUOTE(sHawTY @ Jul 24 2007, 08:53 AM) If you ask my opinion, i'd get XP120. another vote for the XP-120 here as well. pair it with a CM UV Silent fan and ur good to go for a silent setup. i currently have mine paired with a Vizo 120mm UV LED and the noise is alright. anyway...if u think the CM UV fan is too low....i remember someone had the same combo and put the CM fan at 5v...which is friggin slow.. and he still managed to get awesome temps. only thing is i cant remember if it was a presscott or AMD setup

agreed...the XP-120 gets a 9/10 from me...one of the best coolers around IMHO as its not really dependant on fans...but running fanless will be hot la but still acceptable just the mobo compatibility issues are a problem sometimes. i wanna look for a mobo oso i have to make sure my XP-120 can fit first... but the cooler does benefit from high flow fan...i used to have a Delta FFB on it and the temps of my A64@stick went down as low as 26C idle. which reminds me... perhaps i should try it with the E6850 and compare with the Vizo.... EDIT: one more thing i like about the XP-120 is the fact that the fan can be placed as blow in or suck out. 1st ever HSF that can do that. but if u place suck out the dust will be trapped at the bottom of the HSF and u wont be able to see it...like my case last time.. the dust was so thick i had to take it out and wash it with water This post has been edited by mADmAN: Jul 25 2007, 07:52 PM
