Interesting, seems like Mechanical watches movement are affected by gravity. I remembered someone posting a rolex card stating what to do in order to gain seconds or lose seconds. I tried exactly what the rolex card stated on my orient, it works. I managed to gain some seconds by placing my watch in a way that it is flat where the dial is facing upwards.

Anyone have experience on Eyki china brand watches? How is their movement? Reasonable for the price?

QUOTE(r3kahsttub @ Sep 18 2013, 12:37 AM) Was at the gf's place and came across this resting in her little box of watches: I gave this to her some years back. Way back in 1999, my parents gave it to me as my first 'proper' watch - redeemed with American Express credit card points Hour and minute hands are fixed in that position, and the hour and minute markers rotate. Certainly an interesting watch during that time. it does have an interesting design, but did it ever confused the user?

QUOTE(sniper on the roof @ Oct 24 2013, 02:27 PM) Which one? Fine as a novelty but a Seiko 5 is a much better everday watch imo. The YAS407, it is using modified ETA movement? Do they still make good build quality products?

QUOTE(sniper on the roof @ Oct 24 2013, 03:08 PM) Go to swatch shop and touch it, then go an ahpek shop and touch the cheapest Seiko 5 you can find. You'll have your answer. but this model's movement ok? compared to seiko5's.

QUOTE(sniper on the roof @ Oct 24 2013, 04:16 PM) The Swatch's 2841 movement is a downgrade version (beats at 21,600vph like most Seikos) of the 2824 using cheaper parts and cannot hack like the Seiko. While the Seiko's 7s26/36 isn't the most pretty or the most accurate movements around but it is a very evolved one. It's tough and most of all, its also dirt cheap to replace and every ahpek watchguy can fix it. Whether they wanna do it or not is another story. Not to mention it's only 3 bar water resistance meaning its splash proof while most Seiko 5's are between 5 bar and 10 bar for the "Sports" model which means you can swim with it. Awful Swatch straps with 4 piece lug = you're stuck with the strap (have I mentioned that its awful?) unless you're handy with the dremel and play chop chop on the case. Most of all.. Could you seriously wear it out? Wut the, I searched 2841 movement and saw the someone said "The escape wheel and pallet are not made of steel. They look like silicone of plastic." Actually not going to buy it, but got it as a gift from a lucky draw, got an orient myself, but my gf wants it, so I might as well give her.

So got the Swatch YAS704 as a gift, it's a ETA2842. My first interaction with a swiss movement, there are something odd that I want to make sure with sifus here 1. I was hearing the pallet fork touching the escape wheel, the sound is like "chuck chuck chuck chuck" with "ding ding ding ding", these 2 sounds goes together, while on my orient, i didn't hear the "dings", is it normal? 2. I know that most sifu will advice not to adjust the time backwards, but from the box out, i didn't read the manual and goes on trying, i tried to move slightly backwards (very softly and slowly) I can see the second needle starts to jerk and move slightly backwards too, is this normal too? Thanks in advance for anyone that could answer my question.

QUOTE(sniper on the roof @ Oct 25 2013, 09:37 AM) Hmm... IWC claims the pilot thing too and it seems just about every brand has a model that claims pilot heritage. Even the Rolex Air King has supposed Battle of Britain Spitfire pilot provenance. Is it because pilots buy a lot more watches than say.. an accountant? 1. Never heard a watch that chuck chuck chuck and ding ding dings like a train + bell tower crossover 2. That's the hidden "reverse hacking function". For non hacking watches, apply slight backwards pressure on the crown to stop the second hand for precision time synchronization. I don't know how to describe that sound but definitely heard some metallic sound, but most importantly, normal? Not sure does it stops the second hand, but when i saw the second hand move abit backwards, i immediately stopped moving, scared it will hurt the movement.

QUOTE(Everdying @ Oct 25 2013, 10:40 AM) i think you need to be more specific. that sound you hear only happens when you shake it right? no, it's the escapement sound i believe, it clicks 6 times per seconds, only can be listen if only i put my watch right beside my ears.

QUOTE(Everdying @ Oct 25 2013, 10:53 AM) the ticking sound? that should be pretty normal...even on the orient i had. maybe u need to listen to your orient a little closer Both of the orient and swatch also got ticking sound, but the swatch's seems to have 2 layers of ticking, one like the orient's another is like something being hit by a metal.

QUOTE(ck77 @ Nov 5 2013, 04:23 PM) Very nice and great workmanship indeed, if you don't mind the price tag. And people might think your spring drive is the normal Seiko. It does have an interesting movement but somehow still prefers the normal mechanical ones, just want to see what's other sifu's views on it.
