Nope. Just pure speculation lol.

If I work for MSI do you expect seeing me spouting conspiracy theories about MY OWN COMPANY?
THIS.

In the end, MSI doesn't really "condone" user upgrades anyway so this point is actually moot. They DON'T expect you to stuff power consuming things inside and use their laptops with the batteries out to begin with lol. Hence them providing what is NEEDED by the base config (and regional variants) without providing any buffer for "future expansion".

I mean, if the laptop is imminently upgradable, who's going to buy the model that replaces? It's called Planned Obsolescence, and while everyone does this, let's just say MSI is slightly more obvious (or to put it in a better way, LESS DEVIOUS) about it.
*
yeah that's right. like any other laptop manufacturers, the nightmares begin when the consumers have a pair of itchy hands. it's totally understandable that they do not encourage self upgrades.

.. and your second point is probably the real answer as to 'why clevo is not really famous in the local market'. the retailers need to cari makan smile.gif

Well, I'm not saying what MSI is doing is entirely GOOD for US, the 10% of laptop users who actually know what's going on inside their laptops. What I'm saying is simply that what they're doing makes good sense, for THEM and for 90% of the people out there who just want to play games, don't really give an eff about what's inside (besides it being the LATEST AND FASTEST) and replace their laptops on a regular basis.

*ehem*gamers*ehem*.

I mean, I'll be the first to feel good the moment MSI decides it's a good thing to supply their laptops with better PSUs, but I really don't think they're going to do anything about it. They don't really believe in "appeasing the masses" with small details like that, because their target market simply isn't the 10% of us who care.

MSI's game is more "cheaper for even more stuff compared to the competition" after all - for now anyway. Unfortunately, the "shortcuts" taken to get there might only be visible to us "enthusiasts", and the "GAMERZ" crowd that MSI is trying hard to attract, has no idea.
*
this is so true; totally agreed. i am fine with all these market stuff. i just thought it would be perfect if they want to have us 10% haha!

i think i should stop looking for choices to fill up my needs. i will stick to aw and clevo. (in fact, msi is the last one that i think has the right characteristics except one or two)

Well MSI operates like any other "big corporation" after all, they won't actually DO ANYTHING unless the number of cases get HIGH ENOUGH.

Unfortunately, seeing how the Internetz isn't ablaze with OH MAI MSI PSU IS TEH DYING threads, I can simply say that we ought to give MSI the benefit of the doubt and consider my "infamous dying adapter" story more a tale of caution than one of outright imminent threat. Until we can find another case of it happening, it might have just been a fluke with the coolermaster - after all the laptop is supposed to "throttle down" due to insufficient power rather than blowing up a PSU.

@Horns: The moment I find a company that ACTUALLY caters AND cares for this 10% of the laptop user demographics, I'm gonna love them forever. Illegear, for one, is fast becoming the top brand on that list for me - even if I don't end up buying their stuff.

MSI on the other hand, is simply coming up with "interesting stuff". No matter what their operating practices are like, how can you ignore something that looks like and is specced like the Razer Blades for half the price - especially for someone like me who values mobility above EVERYTHING else.

I mean, my initial searches in the very beginning for the replacement for my aging M1210 were simply of "gaming ultrabooks", after all. And while the RE13 certainly IS diminutive, the short battery life stops it from being a strong contender in my books.

Like you, I knew what I wanted and unfortunately, only MSI had what I was looking for.

DAMMIT CLEVO COME UP WITH A THIN GAMING LAPTOP (with reasonable battery life) ALREADY!
*
ah sorry by clevo, i mean illegear, sager, monster, eurocom, avadirect, etc. hopefully illegear will bring in more choices (why don't they sell their rx-17 with a single gpu as an option?)

we all have different needs. i just happen to be more prone to raw power than portability.

@Horns: Mentioned Illegear specifically because they're the only local Clevo guys, and so far they're doing a dang good job at it. I do agree they need more variations though, but the RS-15 Lite idea is GENIUS in my book.

The current "static speakers" issue with the RE-15 is interesting, however. Let's see how they get themselves out of this.
*
the one and only smile.gif (lucky to have them around) i wish they can offer more choices later on (i am subscribing to their newsletter lol!).

yeah i read about that static speakers issue too. from the original clip, the static noise was loud (can it be the phone was too close to the speakers? i don't think i will put my head so close to speakers).

maybe they have compared 2 re-15 side by side, that's why they were so determined that there was no issue (from the youtube clip i couldn't hear anything also). a more straight forward way is to just replace them with a new one and test again.

Hmmm. I guess issues related to having multi-coloured LEDs: Colour Overlap. They have to turn on SOME of the green LEDs to make it "light blue" IINM.

Any of the stuff from other manufacturers having similar issues? I don't even have backlighting (I have never even OWNED a laptop with backlighting LOL) so can't comment more.
*
I guess keyboard backlight issues are common. I've read about asus and aw as well. I myself normally dont pay attention to this feature. As long as i can type properly in the dark, that means no problem.

Every week? thats too much. to me if the gpu temperature is not over 84c under load and OC you dont need to do anything. For cpu, its usually 94c under load and OC.(both at room temperature)

Speaking of temperature, my CPU and GPU's thermals had improved quite a bit. Without cooler boost, they only maxed to CPU: 78C, GPU: 71C. With cooler boost on, CPU: 65C, GPU: 62C.  thumbup.gif Thanks to cold weather  tongue.gif

your cpu and gpu temperatures are nice smile.gif also make sure the difference between the idle and onload temperatures is relatively small (below 35c).
