My company is plan to buy a NAS for office use.

Main purpose:
1- shared folders (currently those share folders are in my server and my server need some space for new coming b2b system so plan move shared folders to NAS).
- Volume1/Data/HR              (For HR user only)
  - Volume1/Data/Account        (For Account user only)
  - Volume1/Data/Sales          (For Sales only)

Can set every user's right? like above?

2- backup accounting data.

3- centralized the sources for latest update (now we're email to head of department especially sales if any info  update such as product picture, price list, documents etc. then the head will pass to their teams.

Yesterday went to AllIT hypermarket and they suggest WD my cloud mirror, any comment on this?

any recommend NAS for above function? budget within rm1.5k to 2k

What is your current storage capacity and what is your data growth rate? Are you on 100 Base or 1000BaseT network? Is data redundancy important to you?

Did you setup your IP address, subnet mask & default gateway correctly? It should be the same as your laptop except the IP address.

I plan to by Synology DS1817+ but I am unsure if 2Gb will be sufficient for my use.

HDD: 4TB x 4 + 3TB x 3 + 2TB x 1
User: 1-3

App: Video Station, Download Station, Audio Station, Photo Station, VPN Server, Log (Syslog) server, HyperBackup and Cloud Station.

Thank you.

2gb of ram u mean?
Can always upgrade the ram yourself
*
Yes, will 2Gb RAM be sufficient.

QUOTE(ozak @ Jul 14 2017, 08:40 PM)
Why you plan the hdd size so rojak? How to raid?

2gb is enough.

But use 2lan cat6 connection. To increase the speed.(link aggregation)
*
4TB x 4 = new
3TB x 3 = existing WD RED
1Tb x 1 = existing (temporary storage) WD GREEN

Just want to maximize usage of existing HDD.

Hello friends.

Im looking to get a NAS for my small office branch, about 6 staff, mainly for file sharing, alot of photos etc for our projects.

Can someone please recommend a brand/model that is easy to set-up and use remotely when needed?

1. Small Office around 6-8 staff
2. At least 4 TB size, probably more.
3. Easy to use/set-up
4. We handle alot of Photos and documents and we need remote access when we are out of the office as well.

Previously we've been using dropbox, but we want to upscale our database size and connect more staff to it.

Any help would be most helpful... im totally new to this NAS and stuff...

exactly my issue now laugh.gif

but im connecting around 15 staff. not handling photos, but mainly docs.
*
1. How are they connects to the NAS, via Wi-Fi or LAN cables?
2. What type of device (Windows PC/Laptop, Mac Desktop/Laptop, tablets (Android/iOS), smartphone (android/iOS), etc) will be access the NAS?
3. Will there be single shared folder or multiple shared folders
4. Do you need access rights on those shared folder?
5. Do you use Active Directory in your office?

1. both, if possible
2. mainly windows PC/laptop.
3. multiple shared folders
4. yes (some people have different access)
5. no...mainly for storage/backup/sharing file purposes

and we have 2 offices (KL and south of Malaysia)
*
Do you need data/files sync between 2 branches?

If my NAS faulty can I take the HDD to another brand NAS and access the file back? Currently using Smartstor and in the market nobody selling this brand anymore, can't get replacement anymore sweat.gif

Qnap and Asustor which one is more reliable? I'm considering this 2 brands since they can support jdownloader brows.gif
*
You can't take HDD from one NAS brand to another.

I have not use Asustor before hence I can't comment. Between QNAP & Synology, I prefer Synology for their UI.

Hello NAS pros,

I'm thinking of using old PC as a NAS, just to stream videos so I can watch it all on tv via android tv box. Since economy not so good, I just want to use whatever free NAS software available, plan to do this with an old desktop PC that I have laying around.

So far I heard about FreeNAS and OpenMediaVault, even something called Unraid. But which is the best?
*
unRAID is not free. While it support parity drive(s) (2 max.), it does not strip data across multiple hard drive unlike typical RAID 0,1,3,5 or 6.

if I get you right, currently you have 7 drives on shr-2 and one drive died. when you pull that drive out to rma and put another drive in say the last bay it will repair itself. the sata positioning does not matter, the OS is built to detect the drive order again, so I don't think it will expand the storage. that's if I got your scenario correctly.
*
Is this how it work? Where can I find any documentation/information?
