I think it's not much of a problem. It may be 'terbalik' but for Neos system it the correct way. Shimano used to have an XTR RD also moves in the same way and I have used it before. It was 9 speed too. Instead of thumbing to go easier, it just release to go easier. In fact I think it's easier too. User if for a while and you will get used to it. All Shimano or SRAM RDs are compatible with your Dahon Boardwalk PROVIDED that you have the adapter! 

just ride again this morning with ol mtb after 1mth plus stop.. try to go up karpet but pancit before can reach 1/3 of the road   ... really need to train again...

so far oni have litepro stamped hanger and it is a bit pricey @ RMB 98.00]

mebe in the future there will be 'brand-less' on sale and cheaper...

Your friend's sister, apa lagi you takut leh! Go for it. Me too use an intermediate agent. They charge an extra 10 percent for the service. If it is a small item, then there's no volumetric charges and it the items are large, you are subjected to extra volumetric charges. Whatever the charge is, the stuffs are very very much cheaper than buying here. But sometimes, I just pay higher just to buy from many local importers here, They also need to cari makan mah!    They also take the trouble to order, transact, pay first etc. So, if they untong a bit, I don't really mind, after all I get to see the stuffs first.

All mountain bike shifters are compatible with Shimano Rear derailleurs. Although the indexing of the road bikes and mountain bikes are different, somehow or rather, they do work. Eg. my wife's Boardwalk is using the Shimano 8 speed trigger shifter and Sora RD and Shimano 2300 FD. They work!  I never really tried using the other way round though. Using road bike shifters with mountain bike RDs, this I am not sure.

MY ADVICE ! To all who are using adapters for RDs, do get a spare one. I knocked on my wife's Boardwalk a while ago and the bike fell over and the adapter broke!

Lite Pro or no Lite Pro, all from the same source. That's what I noticed on most items from Taobao. Hahaha.  It's selling for about RM75 here.

i saw a litepro grip with bars... got litepro chop la... n the finishing is not
the same as another exact copy of the same thing, that sells way cheaper... 

remember in china there are knock-offs from knock-offs....

meaning A is ori. B is copy from A, then C go and copy from B and make it even cheaper... 

For those interested on how the rear derailleur adapter works !

The rear end of the Boardwalk. Also can be used on Dahon Dash 2013 models. Can be adapted to Tern Links but the adapter needs the quick release to hold it tight as the Tern lacks a securing bolt.


The adapter secured onto the frame via the Neos RD mounting tread and also another securing M4 allen nut (same as bottle cage nut)


The rear derailleur attached to the adapter.


The Dahon Speed on the other hand has already an RD hanger ready! Note also the Neos RD mounting tread.


Components needed for the front multiple chain rings installations. From top left-clockwise. Shifters, longer bottom bracket, the dual chainring crank or triple in some cases, the FD adapter for Dahons and Terns and those
same sized seat tubes and the front derailleur. Off course the extra cable and housing.

Do you think you can find anyone in Penang to fabricate the adapters. Here in KL, there are but it takes time and also most foundry owners seek big big projects. They will do but you can't hasten them. If you can find someone to fabricate I can send you the broken one as sample and maybe strengthen the weak part in the adapter, eg. make it out of stainless steel rather than the 6061 aluminium but the purpose is when it crashes, the one that gives way is the replaceable hanger and not the frame. But if it is stronger, I'll take the risk though.

You can actually use the direct mount RD as I think you haven't change to quick release hubs yet! But the limitation is that's going to be the most the RD can go. If you want further, you have to change RD again. If you are satisfied with the numbers of gears, then it's OK to use the direct mount type. Eliminate the need for adapters , huh! Convenient.
