Hmm, most newbies are unable to do that. I myself took quite some time to be able to hover properly during safety stop for 3 minutes.
A strict instructor is good but if he/she is showing anger towards the students, I don't think that's very appropriate. Unless the student is being really unreasonable and stubborn la. Teaching need lots of patience as each of us will learn and adapt at a different pace.

Anyways, let it be, diving is fun but can be dangerous so we still need to practice safety and dive within our limits. Congrats on your certifications!

Which is why most of us suggest that you all do theory and confine water in the city first before going to the island to finish up everything in 4 days.
At least the theory part is already done and you have some experience breathing underwater in the pool before getting dump into the sea.

I've got 2 wetsuits to sell, maybe 1 or 2 booties, 1 pair of atomic split fins (hardly used), and a Tusa BCD. Plus a transparent mask.

Yea, that's why very tiring. Haha. If you've done theory and confined water in the city, your schedule will most probably be:

Day 1 - Arrive island, check in, chill, OW dive 1, chill, eat, sleep.
Day 2 - OW dive 2, 3 and 4, chill, eat, party, sleep.
Day 3 - Hangover, pack things, go back to reality.

Some hotels have swimming pool so they do confine sessions in their pool instead of the sea, which is much better for the students.

How much did you pay for the whole OW course + accommodation?

When I did my OW, I didn't have to swim. I sat in the sampan boat waiting for juniorkirk to finish swimming. Kekekeke.
I still remember my instructor was talking to me about nitrogen narcosis, she ask me whether I have drank alcohol before and then she say it's like when you are high after drinking alcohol. Lol.

Anything can happen when diving, so just be safe and dive within your limits and it'll be okay.
Rental equipments depends on the dive center. Whether they service it regularly, take good care of it, clean it properly or not. Not all dive centers are as responsible as you think they are. And you always have to sign that liability form whenever you dive with any dive center.

Then there is the part where some are completely grossed out by it - finding maggie mee in the rental regulator mouth piece.

Not me. I don't have much problems using rental gear in the past.
But that example is from one of our many diving stories we hear during our TTs.
